English home tutor in Agartala: name the exact weakness, then pick the teacher who fixes it

"Weak in English" can mean five different things: slow reading, shaky grammar, thin literature answers, poor letter and paragraph writing, or a lack of confidence in speaking. Each needs a different kind of teacher. In Agartala, the paper at the end is usually the Tripura board's Madhyamik or Higher Secondary English, or a CBSE paper, and the two are close enough to share textbooks yet different enough in their writing tasks to matter. NXTutors matches two or three English tutors to your child's board, class and actual problem. Fees are shown first, and the first class is a free demo.

Which English problem does your child actually have?

Five common English problems, how each shows in schoolwork, and the kind of tutor who helps
ProblemHow it showsTutor who helps
Slow or shallow readingUnseen passages left unfinished; answers copied from the text without thoughtOne who trains timed reading and inference with fresh passages
Grammar errorsTenses, articles and reported speech wrong in otherwise good answersOne who drills the board's grammar list with short, frequent exercises
Thin literature answersKnows the story but writes two lines where the marks need a paragraphOne who teaches answer planning and quoting the text
Weak formal writingLetters with the wrong format; paragraphs without a clear pointOne who sets and marks a writing task every week
Low speaking confidenceUnderstands English well but avoids speaking itOne who builds conversation into each session

Name the problem in your request. A tutor chosen for grammar drills is the wrong person for a child whose real difficulty is planning a literature answer.

How the Tripura board sets Class X English

The Tripura Board of Secondary Education's Class X English syllabus gives 80 marks to the written paper and 20 to internal assessment. The board has kept the 2025-26 syllabi in force for 2026-27; take the current copy from its syllabus page. The paper has three sections:

  1. Reading, 20 marks. A discursive passage of 400 to 450 words and a case-based factual passage of 200 to 250 words, ten marks each, with objective and short-answer questions.
  2. Writing and grammar, 20 marks. Grammar carries 10, through gap-filling, editing and transformation items, of which ten out of twelve are attempted; the listed areas are determiners, tenses, modals, subject–verb agreement and reported speech. A formal letter and a paragraph from given hints carry 5 each, both in 100 to 120 words, with a choice of two in each.
  3. Literature, 40 marks. Questions on First Flight and Footprints without Feet: extracts for reference to context, short answers of 40 to 50 words, and one long answer of 100 to 120 words from each book.

Half the paper is literature, which is where a well-planned answer earns most. Our Tripura Board tutor page covers the Madhyamik year in other subjects too.

TBSE and CBSE Class 10 English side by side

Class 10 English on the Tripura board and on CBSE, from each board's current documents
PartTBSECBSE (2026-27)
Reading20: discursive and case-based factual passages20: discursive passage and a case-based passage built on a chart or data
WritingFormal letter 5; paragraph from hints 5Formal letter 5; analytical paragraph on a chart, map or graph 5
Grammar1010
Literature40, from First Flight and Footprints without Feet40, from the same two books
Internal2020, of which listening and speaking carry 5

The clearest difference is the second writing task: a CBSE student must describe data from a chart or graph, while a TBSE student writes a paragraph from hints. A tutor who teaches both boards should be clear which format your child will face. For CBSE across subjects, see CBSE home tutors in Agartala.

Turning a story your child knows into a full-mark answer

Many students read the literature chapters, understand them and still lose marks, because their answers are too short or do not address the question asked. A tutor can fix this with a simple routine:

  • Underline the task word. "Describe", "explain why" and "how does the writer show" each ask for a different answer.
  • Plan in three points. For a short answer, three ideas; for a long answer, an opening, three developed points and a close.
  • Refer to the text. A detail or short phrase from the chapter shows the examiner that the answer is grounded.
  • Respect the word range. The syllabus states a length for each answer type, and practising to that length builds a sense of how much to write in the exam.

Two planned literature answers a week, marked by the tutor, do more for most Class 10 students than another grammar worksheet.

Grammar on the TBSE list, and how to practise it

The board's Class X syllabus names five grammar areas, and each responds to a slightly different kind of drill:

  • Determiners: short gap-fills with articles and quantity words, checked aloud.
  • Tenses: rewriting a short paragraph from present to past, then spotting the slips.
  • Modals: matching each modal to its meaning (ability, permission, obligation, possibility) before using it.
  • Subject–verb agreement: editing exercises where the error is hidden in a long subject.
  • Reported speech: commands, requests, statements and questions converted in turn, as the syllabus lists them.

Ten short items twice a week usually beat one long worksheet, because the patterns stick through repetition.

Classes 11 and 12: board English and beyond

The Tripura board publishes separate English syllabi for Classes XI and XII and a Class XII English model question paper on its website, and those should guide a Higher Secondary student's practice. In CBSE's English Core, Class 11 gives reading 26 marks, grammar and creative writing 23, and literature 31 from Hornbill and Snapshots; Class 12 literature comes from Flamingo and Vistas, and the internal 20 marks split into listening 5, speaking 5 and a project 10. ISC, IGCSE and IB English are rarer in Agartala, and an online specialist is often the practical route for them. The national English home tutor page covers each course.

Young readers in Classes 1 to 5

For younger children, the aim is fluent, willing reading and clean sentences, not exam technique. A good primary English tutor reads aloud with the child, asks questions about the story, builds vocabulary from what is read and corrects spelling and punctuation gently in short written pieces. A child who reads and thinks mostly in another language at home benefits from regular, relaxed practice far more than from long grammar lessons.

Can spoken English be part of the same tuition?

Yes. Many families ask for school English and speaking practice together. A tutor can open each session with a short conversation on a familiar topic, correct a few patterns gently, and use read-aloud work from the textbook for pronunciation. CBSE students also have listening and speaking within their internal marks. For a longer view, see our guide to spoken English for students.

English tuition in five Agartala localities

Tutors in Agartala mostly travel by two-wheeler, auto or city bus. English lessons also work well online, so if the right tutor lives across the city, a mix of home and online sessions is an easy compromise.

Five Agartala localities: zone, the detail to share with an English tutor, and when to choose online
LocalityZoneShare with the tutorOnline makes sense when
IndranagarNorthA lane landmark, such as the temple, and a phone numberRoads around the temple are crowded in the Diwali fair days
KrishnanagarCentralHouse in a lane or flat with a gate, and where to parkThe slot falls on a market evening
MelarmathCentralThe building name and a landmark near the flyoverCentral roads are at their busiest around office hours
ShibnagarEastWhich of the two Shibnagar wards, and a lane landmarkThe tutor you want lives on the far side of the city
ArundhutinagarSouthWhich part of the locality, as it spans two wardsHeavy monsoon rain makes the trip slow

All localities are on the Agartala page, and the zone guides cover North, Central, East and South Agartala.

Five questions to answer after the demo

  1. Did the tutor find out what kind of English problem my child has?
  2. Did my child write something, and did the tutor mark it with clear reasons?
  3. Does the tutor know our board's paper, including the second writing task?
  4. Was my child talking for a fair share of the session, not just listening?
  5. Do I know what the next few sessions will cover?

If the answers are mostly no, tell us; we arrange another demo, and switching later is free. The demo class checklist has more.

English Home Tutor in Agartala: common questions

How does the Tripura board mark Madhyamik Class X English for Agartala students?

For Agartala students, the Tripura board gives Class X English 80 written marks and 20 internal. Reading carries 20, writing and grammar 20, and literature 40 from First Flight and Footprints without Feet. The writing tasks are a formal letter and a paragraph from hints, each of 100 to 120 words.

How does TBSE Class 10 English differ from CBSE for an Agartala student?

For an Agartala student, TBSE and CBSE Class 10 English share the two literature books and give reading, writing with grammar, and literature the same marks. The main difference is the second writing task: CBSE wants an analytical paragraph on a chart, map or graph, while TBSE wants a paragraph from hints.

Why does an Agartala child who knows the stories score low in English literature?

An Agartala child who knows the stories usually scores low because the answers are too short or miss the task word. A tutor can teach a quick plan, three points for a short answer and a fuller structure for a long one, with a detail from the text. Two marked practice answers a week build the habit.

What does an English home tutor cost per hour in Agartala?

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Each English tutor in Agartala names a fee, and you can compare them all before the first demo.

What should an Agartala family send to receive English tutor matches?

An Agartala family should send the class, board, the English problem noticed, locality with a landmark and suitable days. We reply with two or three matched tutors, each fee shown before the first class. The first class is a free demo, and if the tutor is not a good match, another demo follows and switching later is free.

Can an Agartala English tutor teach speaking alongside school English?

An Agartala English tutor can teach speaking alongside school English, opening each session with a short conversation and using textbook read-aloud work for pronunciation. Mention spoken English in your request so the shortlist favours tutors comfortable with it. For a shy child, the home setting often helps at the start.

Which Agartala localities have English home tutors nearby?

English home tutors cover North, Central, East and South Agartala, including Indranagar, Krishnanagar, Melarmath, Shibnagar and Arundhutinagar. Tutors near you come first. English also works well online, so if the right tutor lives across the city, a mix of home and online sessions keeps the plan going.

How should a tutor drill the TBSE Class X grammar list for Agartala students?

A tutor should drill the five TBSE Class X grammar areas for Agartala students with short, frequent exercises. Determiners suit gap-fills, tenses suit paragraph rewrites, and modals suit matching each one to its meaning. Agreement suits hidden-error edits and reported speech suits step-by-step conversions; ten items twice a week beat one long worksheet.

Which English problem should Agartala parents name when asking for a tutor?

Agartala parents should name the exact English problem: slow reading, grammar errors, thin literature answers, weak formal writing or low speaking confidence. Each needs a different tutor. A tutor chosen for grammar drills is the wrong person for a child whose real difficulty is planning a literature answer.

When does online English tuition make sense for an Agartala student?

Online English tuition makes sense for an Agartala student when the right tutor lives across the city, or when crowds and rain slow the trip. Festival days, market evenings, office-hour roads and heavy monsoon rain are the usual cases, and English works well on screen. Young readers in Classes 1 to 5 still benefit most from relaxed reading practice at home.
