Now taking on home, online and hybrid tutors · in Agartala
What exactly do Agartala parents mean when they ask for an English tutor? Rarely just 'English'. Behind the request there is usually one specific worry: a child who runs out of time on unseen passages, a student who knows the story but writes two lines where the marks need a paragraph, grammar that falls apart in otherwise good answers, a letter without its format, or a teenager who understands English well and still avoids speaking it. The tutors who do well here are the ones who can name which of these they fix, and show it at the first class.

This page sets out what the Tripura board and CBSE papers ask of English students, where in the city lessons are practical, what families look for and how to present yourself. Joining is free and you decide your fee; the shared section further down covers credits, leads and how you get paid.
Class X is the year that brings most English requests, and literature is the reason. The Tripura Board of Secondary Education gives 80 marks to the written paper and 20 to internal assessment, and half of the 80 comes from literature: extracts from First Flight and Footprints without Feet for reference to context, short answers of 40 to 50 words and one long answer of 100 to 120 words from each book. Reading carries 20, through a discursive passage of 400 to 450 words and a case-based factual passage of 200 to 250 words. Writing and grammar carry another 20: grammar is worth 10 through gap-filling, editing and transformation items, ten of twelve attempted, on determiners, tenses, modals, subject-verb agreement and reported speech; a formal letter and a paragraph from given hints carry 5 each in 100 to 120 words. TBSE has kept the 2025-26 syllabi in force for 2026-27.
CBSE Class 10 English shares the same two literature books, which helps when a child changes board, but the writing differs. A CBSE student writes an analytical paragraph describing a chart, map or graph, while a TBSE student writes a paragraph from hints, and CBSE puts 5 of its 20 internal marks on listening and speaking. A tutor who teaches both must be clear which format the child will face. At Classes 11 and 12, the Tripura board publishes its own English syllabi and a Class XII model question paper, while CBSE English Core uses Hornbill and Snapshots in Class 11 and Flamingo and Vistas in Class 12, with internal marks for listening, speaking and a project.
Agartala also has steady interest in younger readers and in speaking confidence. For Classes 1 to 5 the request is usually about reading with ease: blending sounds, reading a page aloud and retelling it. Older students and their parents sometimes want conversation practice built into board tuition. ISC, IGCSE and IB English are rarer in the city and often handled by online specialists, which is work an Agartala tutor with that background can take for students across India.
English lessons fit neatly into one zone. A tutor in Central Agartala can keep to Ramnagar's numbered divisions, Banamalipur and Melarmath, timing visits away from Krishnanagar's Tuesday and Friday market and the evening crowd at Battala Bazaar near Joynagar. In the east, Dhaleswar, Shibnagar and Jogendranagar are mostly residential, with directions given from chowmuhanis and Station Road; later afternoon slots avoid the school rush in Dhaleswar.
North Agartala's Kunjaban is reached by the hill road, while Indranagar and Abhoynagar sit side by side and share tutors with Banamalipur; plan around the Diwali fair at the Indranagar temple and the spring festival at Abhoynagar. In the south, the flyover from Police Lines to Fire Brigade Chowmuhani brings Badharghat, Arundhutinagar and Pratapgarh within reach of central tutors, and you should ask for the ward as well as a landmark. Online English lessons work well too, because reading, writing and speaking practice need only a screen and a shared document.
Write your profile around problems you solve. A line such as 'I help Class 10 students turn literature answers into full-mark paragraphs' tells a parent more than a list of degrees. Name the boards and classes, say whether you also teach young readers or spoken English, and list the localities you can reach at lesson time, from a short cluster such as Dhaleswar, Shibnagar and Banamalipur rather than the whole city.
At the free demo, find the real gap within the first half of the class. Give a short unseen passage, ask for one literature answer from the current chapter and listen to the child talk about it. Then tell the parent what you saw, which of the five usual problems it points to, and the routine you would follow: for example, two planned literature answers a week, marked by you, and ten grammar items twice a week. Parents remember a tutor who diagnoses precisely.

A family request that fits your subjects, classes, board, areas and hours reaches your dashboard. Opening the family's contact details uses lead credits, and the credit price is shown on the request before you open it. At most 5 tutors can open one request, and a request stays open for 7 days. Credit packs are there if you need more.
You set your own fee. When a family pays for classes through NXTutors, you receive 50% of the fee for home tuition in the first month and the full fee after that, and 70% of the fee for online tuition every month. Payments are held for 7 days, then paid out weekly. How you get paid.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more.
Class 10 stands out, because the TBSE and CBSE papers both give half their written marks to literature and families want those answers fixed before the board exam. Classes 11 and 12, young readers and spoken English also come up. Put each class you teach on your profile.
The literature books are the same, but the second writing task differs: TBSE asks for a paragraph from hints, CBSE an analytical paragraph on a chart, map or graph. CBSE also marks listening and speaking internally. Check which board the child follows before the demo.
Yes, if it helps the student. Many tutors use the home language to clear a doubt and then return to English for the answer itself. Say on your profile which languages you can explain in.
Some do, often alongside board work. A simple routine is to end each lesson with the student retelling the passage aloud, building over months to short talks and answering follow-up questions without notes. Mention this on your profile if you offer it.
Yes. These courses are less common in the city, so families often look for online specialists, and online requests can come from anywhere in India. Name the course and the papers you have taught.
