Online tuition on NXTutors means a live class between one tutor and one student, over video, with a shared whiteboard or a camera on the student's notebook so the tutor can see the working. You tell us the class, board and subject; we shortlist two or three tutors who teach online, you see each tutor's fee before anything is booked, and the first class is a free demo. If the fit is wrong later, switching tutor is free. It is open to students anywhere in India, from Class 1 to Class 12, for school boards and for entrance exams. This page explains how it works, who it suits, what to ask for, and where our city and subject pages go into more depth.
The process is the same whichever city you live in, because nothing depends on a tutor's travel.
Tutors who join go through an ID check, and the Verified badge appears only after our team has reviewed the ID. It is an identity check, not a police or background check; how we check tutors explains what is and is not covered. Some profiles on the site are clearly labelled sample profiles; they show what a profile looks like and are not tutors you can book.
Yes, and the difference matters more than the word "online". Three formats are sold under the same name. They suit different students.
| One-to-one live tuition | Live group batch | Recorded course | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Who sets the pace | The student | The batch | The student, alone |
| Does anyone see the working? | Yes, every step, live | Rarely, in a large group | No |
| Can it follow the school's own order of chapters? | Yes | Only if the batch happens to | No |
| Questions | Any time in the class | Limited time per student | Comments or a separate doubt service |
| Suits | Students with gaps, a specific board or a specific target | Self-driven students who want structure | Very self-driven students, or revision |
| Cost per hour | Highest of the three | Lower | Usually the least |
The tutors we match teach the first kind: one student at a time. If a student mainly needs structure and is already doing well, a batch may be enough. If marks are slipping in one or two subjects, if the student is on a board most batches do not follow (ICSE, IB or IGCSE), or if the student will not ask questions in front of others, one-to-one is usually worth the extra cost.
You can ask for any stage from Class 1 to Class 12. How well online suits a student changes with age far more than with subject, so the table starts there. Each subject has its own page with board-by-board detail.
| Stage | Common requests | How online usually goes | Read next |
|---|---|---|---|
| Classes 1–5 | Reading, maths, English, Hindi, EVS, homework support | Short sessions with a parent close by; many families prefer a home tutor at this age | Primary tutors (Gurgaon) |
| Classes 6–8 | Maths, science, English | Works when the student can stay on task for 45–60 minutes | Maths, Science |
| Classes 9–10 | Maths, science, social science, English, board-year planning | Works well for most students; a common choice in the board year | Online tuition for Class 10 |
| Classes 11–12, science | Physics, chemistry, maths, biology | Fits around school and coaching; short late slots are realistic | Physics, Chemistry, Biology |
| Classes 11–12, commerce | Accountancy, economics, maths | Works well; ledgers and graphs are easy to share on screen | Accountancy, Economics |
| IB, IGCSE, ISC | Course- and level-specific maths and sciences | Online widens the choice of tutors who know the exact course | IB maths, IGCSE maths, ISC maths |
| JEE and NEET | Topic repair alongside coaching, test analysis | Good for one-to-one doubt work between coaching tests | JEE, NEET |
Maths is the subject most families ask for online, so it has its own page: online maths classes covers the setup that lets a tutor follow working and diagrams, and how a weekly plan changes from middle school to the board years. For English, which many families also want online, see the English tutor page.
The demo is a normal class, not a sales call. It costs nothing, so it is the moment to find out whether a tutor, a device and a room work together, so use it to test all three.
Ask the student first: did they understand, and would they ask this tutor a question they felt silly about? Then compare the shortlisted tutors on fit, plan and fee. Our demo class checklist for parents has a fuller list, and booking a free demo takes a minute.
Parents use the phrase in two ways, and both are possible through NXTutors.
If you are weighing the two formats, our home tutor vs online tutor guide compares them factor by factor. If you live in Gurgaon, the online tutor page for Gurgaon students covers hybrid plans, the room setup and online safety for families in Gurugram.
The number of classes depends on the gap and the calendar, not on a package. These are common starting points that a tutor adjusts after the first month.
| Situation | Classes a week | Length | What fills the time |
|---|---|---|---|
| Keeping up in Classes 6–8 | 1–2 | 45–60 min | School chapter of the week, homework errors |
| Closing a gap in one subject | 2–3 | 60 min | Old chapters first, then the current one |
| Board year, Class 10 or 12 | 2–3, more before exams | 60–90 min | Syllabus, then timed papers and marking |
| IB or IGCSE course support | 1–2 | 60–90 min | Unit tests, past-paper questions, internal assessment guidance |
| Alongside JEE or NEET coaching | 1–2 | 60 min | Test analysis and weak topics only |
Two habits make an online week work. First, the student writes on paper, as in the exam, and shows it to the camera or uploads a photo; typing answers hides the method. Second, homework is set in writing at the end of each class, so a parent can see what was asked and whether it was done.
A tutor is there for an hour or two a week; homework doubts arrive at 10 pm. NXTutors also makes TutorTwin, an AI tutor on WhatsApp, for that gap. A student sends a typed question and gets a step-by-step explanation back; on plans that include them, a student can also send a photo of the homework, a PDF worksheet or a voice note. It replies in English, Hindi or Hinglish. It covers Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, English, Computer Science, Social Science and Economics.
Three things to know before you use it. TutorTwin is an AI, not a person, and it says so. It can make mistakes, so important answers should be checked against the textbook or the tutor. And it is a paid service with its own plans, separate from tuition fees. It does not replace a tutor; it covers the time between classes. Our parents' guide to TutorTwin explains how a student uses it, safety and privacy for under-18s, and what it will not do, and TutorTwin's own site shows the current plans.
Online classes work the same everywhere, but families often want a tutor who knows how their city's schools run the year, and a home visit now and then. Each city page below covers the boards common in that city and, where we have home tutors, how a hybrid plan works there.
Looking for a tutor at home instead? Start from home tutors by city, or for Gurugram, home tutors in Gurgaon.
Tutors set their own fees, and you see each shortlisted tutor's fee before the demo. As a guide, across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Online classes save the tutor's travel, which can bring a fee down, but class, board, subject and the tutor's experience move it more than the format does. Our pricing guide explains how to compare quotes.
To start, book a free demo class or browse tutor profiles and filter for online teaching.
You tell us the class, board, subject and free slots. We shortlist two or three tutors who teach online, and you see each tutor's fee before anything is booked. The first class is a free demo on the same setup as a paid class. You choose the tutor, agree a schedule, and can switch tutor later at no cost.
One-to-one. A class with a tutor you find through NXTutors is one tutor with one student, live over video, so the pace follows the student and the tutor sees each step of the working, which a large group cannot offer. If a student mainly needs structure and is already doing well, a batch elsewhere may be enough.
You can ask for Classes 1 to 12 on CBSE, ICSE or ISC, IB, Cambridge or Edexcel IGCSE and state boards, plus JEE and NEET support alongside coaching. Online suits most students from about Class 6 upward; for Classes 1 to 5, short sessions with a parent nearby work better, and many families choose a home tutor instead.
Usually it means a private tutor teaching your child live online while the child studies at home. It can also mean a hybrid plan: home visits plus online classes with the same tutor. Hybrid plans are possible in Gurugram and in other cities where we have home tutors; fully online tuition is available anywhere in India.
Yes. The first class with a tutor from your shortlist is a free demo. Use it as a real lesson: bring a recent test or a weak chapter, check that the tutor can see the student's written working, and ask what the first month would cover. You decide afterwards whether to continue, with that tutor or another one.
Tutors set their own fees, and you see each shortlisted tutor's fee before the demo. Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Online classes can cost less because the tutor does not travel.
TutorTwin is a separate AI tutor on WhatsApp made by NXTutors, for homework doubts between classes. It explains questions step by step in English, Hindi or Hinglish across eight subjects. It is an AI, not a person, it can make mistakes, and it has its own paid plans. It does not replace a tutor or the free demo.
