What home tuition costs in Bengaluru

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.

Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

Online tuition by locality in Bengaluru

Online tuition for Bengaluru students: the right teacher, without the Outer Ring Road

In Bengaluru, the distance that matters is rarely the one on the map. A tutor several stops away along the Purple Line can be at your door sooner than one in the next neighbourhood who has to cross Silk Board or the Hebbal flyover in the evening rush. Online tuition removes that problem entirely and lets you choose on teaching alone. It is not right for every child, though. The NXTutors Academic Team sets out here when online is the better option for a Bengaluru student, when a home tutor is still the wiser choice, how online lessons are arranged through NXTutors, what the desk needs, how to tell whether it is working, and how to blend home and online with the same tutor.

When is online tuition the better choice in Bengaluru?

The right tutor lives across a choke point

The Outer Ring Road, Silk Board junction, Hosur Road and the Hebbal flyover all turn short distances into long evenings. A tutor who has to cross one of them at office closing time will struggle to arrive on time week after week. Online, it makes no difference which side of the ORR either of you lives on.

You need a narrow specialist

IB Higher Level, Cambridge A Level, ISC mathematics or a particular PUC combination subject may have only a few good tutors in any one zone, and fewer still free at your hour. Online opens the search to the whole country. See our IB and IGCSE pages for Bengaluru for what a specialist should know.

No metro reaches you yet

Bellandur, Sarjapur Road, Hennur, Thanisandra, Hebbal and Marathahalli are all waiting for Blue Line stations that are still under construction, and parts of Bannerghatta Road wait for the Pink Line. Tutors reach these areas by road, and the road leg is the first thing to go wrong in a busy week. Online, or a mix, keeps the timetable steady. Our zone guides for Hennur, Kalyan Nagar and Banaswadi, Hebbal, RT Nagar and Yelahanka and Koramangala, HSR and Bellandur describe how tutors travel there today.

PUC, coaching and late evenings

A first or second PUC student with college, an entrance course and a commute may only be free after eight. A focused online session then is realistic; a home visit usually is not. Our KCET, JEE and NEET pages for Bengaluru explain how tutoring fits around coaching.

When should a Bengaluru child stay with a home tutor?

  • Young children, up to about Class 5. Handwriting, early reading and number work need an adult close enough to guide the pencil.
  • Children who drift on screens. If online school meant hidden tabs and a phone under the desk, online tuition will go the same way.
  • The first weeks after a board change, for example from the state board to CBSE, or CBSE to IGCSE, when gaps are easier to find sitting side by side.
  • Written subjects with no way to show the page, such as maths, physics or accountancy without a camera or tablet for the notebook.
  • An unreliable connection at the time of the lesson, with no mobile data to fall back on.

These are reasons to start at home, not to rule online out for ever. Many children move online once the habits are in place.

Which format suits which Bengaluru student?

Home, online or both: typical Bengaluru situations
SituationUsually suitsWhy
Primary child with a tutor in the same layoutHomeClose supervision, short trip
SSLC, CBSE or ICSE Class 10 student who works independentlyOnline or bothWider choice of board specialists, no evening travel
First or second PUC student with an entrance courseOnline on weekdays, home at the weekendLate weekday slots; calmer weekend roads
IB, IGCSE, A Level or ISC specialist subjectOnlineSpecialists are thin in any one zone

Tutor and family on opposite sides of the ORROnlineA peak-hour crossing each lesson rarely lasts
Any home tutor in the heavy-rain monthsHome, with an online fallbackBad-weather evenings move online at the usual time

Our home tutor or online tutor article compares the two in more depth.

How do you arrange online lessons through NXTutors?

  1. Use the Online switch. Under the home-page search box, pick Online, or include the word online in what you type, such as online ISC physics Class 12. Distance then stops mattering, so tutors from any city can appear.
  2. Or use the filters. Find Tutors set to online lets you narrow by subject, board, class, maximum fee, experience, rating and tutor gender.
  3. Pick Either if undecided. The shortlist can then mix a nearby tutor for some home lessons with online tutors elsewhere.
  4. Ask for a demo. The demo form has a Mode field; choose online, add the class, board and good times, and we reply with two or three tutors and their fees.
  5. Take the free first lesson. It is a real lesson on screen. You and the tutor agree the video tool and how written work will be shared.
  6. Decide, or switch. If it is not right, we set up the next tutor; changing later costs nothing.

You may see online tutors even after searching for home tuition. When few local tutors fit, a Bengaluru home search widens step by step, to tutors elsewhere in Karnataka and then across India who teach online, and every card shows where the tutor is based. Locality pages follow the same order: tutors in the area, then the zone, then the city, then online. An online name on your list usually means the specialist you need does not live within easy reach. Tutors who join go through an ID check before the profile is marked Verified; it is not a police or background check, so judge the teaching in the demo.

What does your child need on the desk?

Equipment matters most for subjects with working: maths, physics, chemistry, accountancy and statistics. The tutor needs to watch the solution being written, not see a photo of the final line.

  • A laptop or tablet, not a phone, so graphs, ledgers and long derivations are readable.
  • A second view of the page: a phone on a stand pointed at the notebook, or a tablet with a stylus. Paper keeps exam habits; a stylus suits shared whiteboards.
  • A shared whiteboard or document both can write on, saved afterwards as notes.
  • A headset with a microphone to cut out household noise.
  • A table in a common room with good light and the door open.
  • A backup connection, such as a phone hotspot, and a charged device for power cuts.

Test all of it in the free demo; if the tutor cannot follow the working clearly, fix the setup before the first paid lesson. See also online versus offline tutoring.

How can you tell an online lesson is working?

In the demo and the first few weeks, look for a few signs. Your child speaks and writes more than the tutor. Mistakes are caught halfway through a step, often with a question. Cameras stay on at both ends. The material is your child's own: board past papers, PU model papers or school tests rather than generic worksheets. Each lesson ends with a short written note of what was covered and what to practise. A tutor who talks over slides for an hour is running a lecture, not tuition. The demo class checklist suggests more questions.

Does online work for SSLC and PUC students?

Yes, with two checks. First, the tutor must teach from the same state textbook and in the same medium as your child's school or PU college; a tutor from another state who knows only NCERT books will teach the right ideas in the wrong words. Ask in the demo which edition they use and whether they have taught Karnataka board students before. Second, the practice material should be the board's own: the pre-university department posts model question papers and question banks on its website, which a tutor can share on screen and mark from a photo of the answer. Our Karnataka board tutors in Bengaluru page covers the SSLC and PUC in more depth.

Mixing home and online with one tutor

Many Bengaluru families end up with a mix rather than a pure choice. If the tutor can come to you some of the time:

  • Weekend at home, weekdays on screen. New topics and long written practice at the table on Saturday; doubts and homework checks online midweek.
  • Home through the term, online before exams, for short sessions the evening before a paper without a trip across town.
  • Home on dry days, online on wet ones, same tutor, same time.
  • Online while travelling, so a family trip does not break the routine.

Keeping the same person across both formats matters more than the format itself.

How do you keep online tuition safe?

  • Use a family laptop in a shared room, not a phone behind a closed door.
  • Have lesson links and messages sent to a parent's number or a group that includes a parent.
  • Keep cameras on at both ends, and do not move to private chat apps.
  • Stay within earshot for younger students, at least for the first few weeks.
  • Share no personal photos or details beyond what the lesson needs.

Is an online tutor cheaper than a home tutor in Bengaluru?

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Online removes the journey, and in a city where an evening trip across the ORR can take a long time, the same tutor may quote less for online lessons. An experienced specialist may charge about the same either way. The class, board, subject and number of weekly sessions affect the price more than the format. Fees are shown before the demo; see the Bengaluru home tuition fees guide and our pricing guide.

How do you get started?

Tell us the class, board and subjects, whether you want online only or a mix with home visits, your locality if visits are part of the plan, and the evenings that work. To see who teaches near you before deciding, open a locality page such as Hebbal, Cooke Town, Sadashivanagar, Arekere, KR Puram or Nagarbhavi; each lists local tutors first and then online options.

Online Tuition in Bengaluru: common questions

When is an online tutor better than a home tutor in Bengaluru?

When the right tutor lives across the Outer Ring Road, Silk Board or the Hebbal flyover, when you need a narrow specialist such as IB HL or ISC maths, when no metro reaches your area yet, or when a PUC student is only free late in the evening after college and an entrance course.

Is online tuition suitable for young children?

Not as the main arrangement for children up to about Class 5. Early reading, handwriting and number work need an adult close enough to guide the pencil. Younger children do better with a home tutor from the same layout, and can move to some online sessions once their habits are settled.

How do I find online tutors for a Bengaluru student on NXTutors?

Choose Online under the home-page search box, or type online with the subject and class. You can also open Find Tutors set to online and filter by subject, board, class, fee, experience, rating and gender. In the demo form, select online in the Mode field and add your preferred times.

Can Karnataka SSLC and PUC students learn well online?

Yes, if the tutor teaches from the same state textbook and medium as the school or PU college and uses the board's own practice material, such as the model papers and question banks the pre-university department posts online. Ask in the demo which edition the tutor uses and whether they have taught Karnataka board students.

What equipment does my child need for online maths or science?

A laptop or tablet rather than a phone, a second view of the notebook through a phone on a stand or a stylus tablet, a shared whiteboard, a headset, a table in a common room and a backup connection such as a hotspot. Test everything during the free demo before paying for lessons.

Can the same tutor teach at home and online?

Yes, and it often works best. A common arrangement is a weekend home lesson for new topics and long written practice, with shorter online sessions on weekdays for doubts and homework checks. Online also covers bad-weather evenings and family travel, so the routine continues with the same tutor at the same time.

Is online tuition cheaper in Bengaluru?

Sometimes. Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour. Without the journey, the same tutor may quote less online, though experienced specialists may charge similar fees either way. Class, board, subject and sessions per week matter more than the format, and every fee is shown before the free demo.
