Home Tuition in East Bengaluru: From Indiranagar to Whitefield
East Bengaluru runs from the bungalow lanes of Indiranagar, one of the city's late-1970s BDA layouts, out to the apartment towers of Whitefield and Brookefield. One thread connects it: the Purple Line. Its first section, MG Road to Baiyappanahalli, opened on 20 October 2011 with Indiranagar and Swami Vivekananda Road stations, and since 9 October 2023 the line has run without a break from the city centre to Whitefield (Kadugodi). For a family in the east, whether a tutor can use that line often decides how steady a weekday class will be.
The guide covers two zones: Indiranagar and Old Airport Road, and Whitefield, Marathahalli and KR Puram. It starts with a station finder, then takes each locality in turn, with the gate routine and the slot that tends to work.
Which station does a tutor use for your locality?
All the open stations below are on the Purple Line. The Blue Line along the Outer Ring Road, from Central Silk Board to KR Puram, is under construction, with opening expected in December 2027; until then, localities on that stretch rely on roads.

|---|---|---|---|
| Indiranagar | Indiranagar, Swami Vivekananda Road | Walk or short auto | None |
| Domlur | Indiranagar | Auto or bus | None |
| CV Raman Nagar | Baiyappanahalli | Auto | None |
| KR Puram | Krishnarajapura | Walk or auto | Blue Line interchange |

| Whitefield | Kadugodi Tree Park, Hopefarm Channasandra, Whitefield (Kadugodi) | Auto | None |
| Marathahalli | No metro station | By road | Marathahalli, on the Blue Line |
Indiranagar and Old Airport Road
Old Airport Road takes its name from the city's old airport, which stopped scheduled commercial flights on 24 May 2008 when operations moved to the new international airport at Devanahalli. Where Old Airport Road, 100 Feet Road and the Inner Ring Road meet, the Domlur flyover has carried traffic since 12 July 2006. Homes in this zone are an older mix: independent houses and builder floors, with apartment buildings and a few gated communities in between.
- Indiranagar: formed as a BDA layout in the late 1970s and first a quiet suburb of bungalows, it now mixes houses with busy commercial streets. 100 Feet Road and 80 Feet Road are the main arteries, with HAL 2nd and 3rd Stages, Binnamangala, Kodihalli and Thippasandra around it. A tutor by metro has only a short walk or auto from Indiranagar or Swami Vivekananda Road station. In houses the tutor reaches the doorstep directly; apartments may ask for a name at the gate. The shopping stretches fill up in the evening, so start before the rush.
- Domlur: one of the older localities of east Bengaluru, part of the Civil and Military Station until 1949 and home to a Chola-era temple with Tamil inscriptions. It has no station of its own, so tutors ride to Indiranagar and take an auto or bus; the large bus terminus helps those who travel by BMTC. The flyover junction carries heavy office traffic, so mid-afternoon or weekend classes are easier than slots at office closing time.
- CV Raman Nagar: sometimes called Greater Indiranagar, between Kaggadasapura and Baiyappanahalli, with Old Madras Road along one side. Housing ranges from a government research staff township to independent houses, older apartment blocks and newer gated communities. Baiyappanahalli, one of the first stations opened in 2011, is the nearest stop. Inside the township or a gated community, register the tutor in advance; after-school slots avoid office shift changes.
Whitefield, Marathahalli and KR Puram
The Purple Line's extension from Krishnarajapura to Whitefield (Kadugodi) opened on 26 March 2023, and the gap from Baiyappanahalli through Benniganahalli to KR Puram closed on 9 October 2023. Stations on this stretch include Singayyanapalya, Garudacharapalya, Hoodi, Seetharampalya, Kundalahalli, Nallurhalli, Pattandur Agrahara, Kadugodi Tree Park and Hopefarm Channasandra. Two four-lane roads link Whitefield to the city: Whitefield Road via Mahadevapura, and Varthur Road, the continuation of Old Airport Road, via Marathahalli. Most families here live in apartment complexes and gated communities, so the first visit usually starts at a security desk.
- Whitefield: began in 1882 on land granted to the Eurasian and Anglo-Indian Association and stayed a small village until the late 1990s. It is now a large district of apartment towers, gated villa communities, houses and builder floors, next to Kadugodi, Hoodi, Varthur and Hagadur. Whitefield railway station is on the Bengaluru to Chennai line. Gated communities usually need the tutor's details before the first class; time evening sessions away from shift changes on Whitefield Main Road and around the Hope Farm junction.
- Marathahalli: built around the junction of the Outer Ring Road and Old Airport Road, with a dense mix of apartment complexes, builder floors and houses on the side lanes, near Kundalahalli, Munnekollal and Doddanekundi. It has no metro or railway station of its own; the nearest rail stop is Bellandur Road, and a Blue Line station is under construction. A tutor who lives on your side of the Outer Ring Road is the practical choice, with late-afternoon or weekend slots.
- KR Puram: Krishnarajapuram, headquarters of Bengaluru East taluk, where Old Madras Road meets the Outer Ring Road. Its railway station on the Chennai line is crossed by a cable-stayed bridge opened in 2003. Housing is mostly apartments, with houses and plots on the older streets. Tutors from Indiranagar, CV Raman Nagar or Whitefield reach Krishnarajapura station directly; allow extra time at the junction during office peaks.
- Mahadevapura: once a separate city municipal council, now an administrative zone, between KR Puram and Hoodi and part of the IT belt along the Outer Ring Road and Whitefield Road. Singayyanapalya station, earlier named Mahadevapura, sits on Whitefield Main Road. Most families live in societies where the tutor must be registered at the gate, and some ask for photo ID on the first visit.
- Brookefield: an Anglo-Indian settlement from the late nineteenth century that grew fast from the late 1990s as offices spread nearby. Homes are mostly apartment complexes, with some villas. Kundalahalli station is on the Brookefield side of the EPIP Zone, and Varthur Road is the main link to the city. Add the tutor to the visitor list before the demo, and fit weekday classes between school hours and the evening rush.
How do east Bengaluru families keep a weekday class on time?
- Match the tutor to the line. A tutor who lives near any Purple Line station, from Indiranagar to Whitefield, can reach a home near another station with only a short last leg.
- Stay on one side of the Outer Ring Road. In Marathahalli, Mahadevapura and KR Puram, a tutor who does not have to cross the Outer Ring Road at office hours is more reliable.
- Put the tutor on the gate list once. Most homes in the Whitefield zone sit inside gated communities; a standing entry for a fixed weekly slot saves paid time at the gate.
- Use online for the specialist. For IB, IGCSE or senior science, an online specialist can sit alongside a home tutor for the core subject.

Frequently asked questions
Can a tutor reach Whitefield by metro?
Yes. The Purple Line has run continuously from the city centre to Whitefield (Kadugodi) since 9 October 2023, with stations such as Kundalahalli, Hopefarm Channasandra and Kadugodi Tree Park. Most tutors finish the trip by auto. Register the tutor at your society gate before the free demo so the class starts on time.
Is there a metro station in Marathahalli?
Not yet. A Marathahalli station is under construction on the Blue Line between Central Silk Board and KR Puram, with opening expected in December 2027. For now tutors arrive by bus, two-wheeler or cab, so a tutor who lives on your side of the Outer Ring Road is usually the steadier choice.
Which station is nearest to Domlur?
Domlur has no station of its own. Indiranagar on the Purple Line is the nearest, and tutors usually finish by auto or bus; the Domlur bus terminus helps those who travel by BMTC. Because the flyover junction is busy at office hours, mid-afternoon or weekend classes tend to start more reliably.
Do tutors need a gate pass in Mahadevapura and Brookefield?
Usually, yes. Most families in both localities live in apartment complexes or gated communities, and some ask for photo ID on the first visit. Add the tutor's name and phone number to the visitor list before the demo class, and keep the same weekly slot so entry becomes routine.
How much does home tuition cost in east Bengaluru?
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fees, and you see each one before the free demo.
