Tutoring in Bengaluru: what to know

Bengaluru gives a home tutor ten zones to think about, and they behave very differently. The south-east office belt of Koramangala, HSR and Bellandur, and the eastern tech belt out to Whitefield, are mostly gated apartment communities where a security desk logs every visitor. Jayanagar, Basavanagudi, Malleshwaram and the old Cantonment streets are largely independent houses where you simply ring the bell. The metro now shapes travel: the Green, Purple and Yellow lines reach many layouts, but Hennur, Hebbal, Bannerghatta Road and Frazer Town still wait for open stations, so tutors there come by road. Choose the zones you can reach on a weekday afternoon, not just the ones that look close on a map.

Families here sit four kinds of examination. The Karnataka School Examination and Assessment Board, KSEAB, conducts the SSLC at the end of Class 10 and the II PUC examination at the end of Class 12, and its site lists notices for SSLC Exam-1 and Exam-2 along with subject blueprints, model question papers and question banks. PUC textbooks come in Kannada-medium and English-medium versions, so ask which one a student uses before the demo. Alongside the state board, families follow CBSE, CISCE's ICSE and ISC, and IB or Cambridge IGCSE. A tutor who knows one of these papers thoroughly is more useful to a family than one who lists all four.

Home and online work run side by side. When a family in, say, Kalyan Nagar sends a request, NXTutors shortlists two or three tutors: those living in the same area first, then the same zone, then elsewhere in Bengaluru, then online tutors. The family sees each tutor's fee before a free first demo and can switch tutor later without paying anything extra. If you live near a metro station, home visits along that line are realistic; if you live in Electronic City or Yelahanka, it may suit you to keep home lessons to your own zone and teach the rest of the city online. Either way, you set your own fee.

How you get tuition work on NXTutors

Six steps from applying to your first class. Swipe to see each step.

  1. Sign up with a one-time code

Register with your phone or email and a one-time code, then list what you teach, from SSLC Maths in Kannada medium to ISC Chemistry or IB Physics, and the Bengaluru zones you reach.

  2. Upload your ID; our team reviews it

Upload a government photo ID for the team to review. Until that review is done your profile stays pending; the check confirms identity and is not a police or background check.

  3. Your profile carries the Verified badge

When the review is complete, your profile carries the Verified badge, along with your boards, travel zones, free hours and the fee you have chosen.

  4. A family nearby sends a request

A parent in HSR Layout or Malleshwaram sends a request. NXTutors shortlists two or three tutors, starting with those living closest, then those who travel there, the zone, the city and online.

  5. Free demo; the family sees your fee first

The parent sees your fee on the shortlist before booking, and the first class is a free demo with them at home, so you can judge the student and the route.

  6. Teach at home, online or both

Then teach the way that suits you: home lessons along your metro line, online classes for students across Bengaluru or India, or a weekly visit with online sessions in between.

Boards you can teach in Bengaluru

Bengaluru tutors meet Karnataka state board students in SSLC and PUC, CBSE students, CISCE's ICSE and ISC candidates, and IB and Cambridge IGCSE learners. Take state blueprints and model papers only from the KSEAB and pre-university department sites, and say plainly on your profile which boards you teach.

Karnataka School Examination and Assessment Board (KSEAB)

SSLC (Class 10); I and II PUC (Classes 11–12)

The board sets the SSLC after Class 10 and the II PUC paper after the second pre-university year, while the Department of School Education (Pre-University) shapes what is taught and publishes PUC books in Kannada and English medium. Its chapter blueprints, model papers and question banks are a state-board tutor's working kit.

CBSE

Classes 1–12

CBSE schools draw students from every zone, Whitefield to Vijayanagar. Start from the NCERT chapter, then move to the sample papers and marking schemes on cbseacademic.nic.in, where board questions increasingly test application. In Classes 11 and 12 one plan can serve the board and entrance practice, since both rest on NCERT.

CISCE (ICSE and ISC)

ICSE (Class 10); ISC (Class 12)

ICSE and ISC reward long, well-organised written answers and carry prescribed English texts. Bengaluru tutors who know the literature set and the project work every subject requires are easier for families to choose. Regulations and specimen papers are on cisce.org.

IB Diploma Programme

Diploma Programme (Classes 11–12)

IB families here ask for Maths AA or AI at SL or HL, or for Physics and Chemistry, by course name. Internal assessment counts towards the grade, so a tutor coaches the method but never writes the IA or Extended Essay. Read the subject guide through ibo.org before a demo.

Cambridge / Pearson Edexcel IGCSE

IGCSE (Classes 9–10)

Cambridge IGCSE, and Pearson Edexcel's International GCSE, reward technique: command words, the right tier and past papers marked strictly against the official scheme. A specialist may live across the ORR from the family, so an online session between home visits often keeps the weekly plan intact.

Where in Bengaluru tutors are needed

Zones marked "Tutors needed" have the fewest tutors living in or travelling to them, so families there mostly see online tutors today. Add them to your travel areas to reach those families first.

Koramangala, HSR & Bellandur

Tutors needed

Bellandur and Sarjapur Road are mostly gated towers where the security desk registers every visitor, while Koramangala's inner blocks and HSR's sectors are doorstep visits once you have the block, sector, main and cross numbers. Crossing the Outer Ring Road at office opening or closing time makes weekday lessons hard to keep, so tutors on the same side of the ORR, or near Central Silk Board on the Yellow Line, are the natural fit.

Bellandur, HSR Layout, Koramangala, Sarjapur Road

Jayanagar, JP Nagar & Banashankari

Tutors needed

This planned south is mostly independent houses in numbered blocks, stages and phases, so there is rarely a gate list and the house number with its cross and main road is all you need. The Green Line runs through Jayanagar, Banashankari and JP Nagar to Kanakapura Road, letting a tutor arrive by metro and walk, though the newer apartment projects further south do register visitors.

Banashankari, Basavanagudi, Jayanagar, JP Nagar, Kanakapura Road, Kumaraswamy Layout

BTM, Bannerghatta Road & Electronic City

Tutors needed

The Yellow Line, open since August 2025, links BTM Layout, Silk Board, Bommanahalli and Electronic City, so a tutor living a few stops away can cover the whole Hosur Road side. Electronic City's large apartment communities keep gate lists and office shift changes shape local traffic, and on Bannerghatta Road the Pink Line is not yet open, so travel there is by road.

Arekere, Bannerghatta Road, Begur, Bommanahalli, BTM Layout, Electronic City

Indiranagar & Old Airport Road

Tutors needed

Indiranagar and the stretch towards Baiyappanahalli sit on the Purple Line, and Domlur has a bus terminus, so this compact eastern belt is workable without a vehicle. Start lessons before the evening crowd builds on 100 Feet Road, and expect to give your name at the gate in CV Raman Nagar's township and gated complexes. Baiyappanahalli is the nearest station for the last leg to CV Raman Nagar.

CV Raman Nagar, Domlur, Indiranagar

Whitefield, Marathahalli & KR Puram

Tutors needed

Homes here are mostly apartment towers and gated villa communities, and some security desks ask for photo ID on a first visit, so carry it. The Purple Line runs from KR Puram to Whitefield, but Marathahalli has no open station yet, so time weekday lessons between school and the office rush on the ORR and Whitefield Main Road.

Brookefield, KR Puram, Mahadevapura, Marathahalli, Whitefield

Hennur, Kalyan Nagar & Banaswadi

Tutors needed

No metro runs through this zone yet, so tutors who already live in Hennur, Kalyan Nagar, HRBR Layout or Banaswadi have the clearest advantage for regular weekday lessons. Kalyan Nagar and HRBR Layout are mostly houses and builder floors on numbered blocks, while Thanisandra's gated complexes need your name and phone number at the security desk. In HRBR Layout, ask where a two-wheeler can be parked near the cafe streets.

Banaswadi, Hennur, HRBR Layout, Kalyan Nagar, Thanisandra

Hebbal, RT Nagar & Yelahanka

Tutors needed

Airport and office traffic funnels through the Hebbal flyover, so a tutor living on the family's side of it keeps evening slots far more reliably. Yelahanka New Town houses are doorstep visits and newer societies register visitors at the gate, and with the Blue Line stations still under construction nearly everyone arrives by road. In RT Nagar's market lanes agree a parking spot, and in Yelahanka ask for the New Town stage or an Old Town landmark.

Hebbal, RT Nagar, Yelahanka

Malleshwaram, Rajajinagar & Yeshwanthpur

Tutors needed

The Green Line links Malleshwaram, Rajajinagar, Mahalakshmi Layout and Yeshwanthpur, and most homes are houses or small buildings a short walk or auto ride from a station. Sadashivanagar's larger houses may have a guard at the gate and Yeshwanthpur's complexes keep registers, while Chord Road and Tumkur Road slow down at peak hours. Malleshwaram addresses use cross and main road numbers, and its market roads fill in the evening.

Mahalakshmi Layout, Malleshwaram, Rajajinagar, Sadashivanagar, Yeshwanthpur

Vijayanagar, RR Nagar & Kengeri

Tutors needed

The Purple Line runs west through Vijayanagar, RR Nagar and Kengeri, so a tutor anywhere along it can avoid Mysore Road at rush hour. Plotted layouts in Basaveshwaranagar and Nagarbhavi are houses with room for a two-wheeler, though some streets are steep, and apartment projects in RR Nagar and Kengeri keep a visitor list. Ask for a map pin in Basaveshwaranagar before the first visit.

Basaveshwaranagar, Kengeri, Nagarbhavi, RR Nagar (Rajarajeshwari Nagar), Vijayanagar

Frazer Town, Richmond Town & Ulsoor

Tutors needed

Ulsoor and Richmond Town are a walk from Halasuru and Trinity stations on the Purple Line, but Frazer Town and Cooke Town have no open station, so plan an auto from the nearest one or come by road. Heritage bungalows share lanes with apartment buildings where a guard often stands at the entrance, and the shopping streets fill up in the evenings.

Women tutors welcome

For women tutors: you set the terms

Women tutors are welcome on NXTutors in Bengaluru, whether you want home visits in your own layout, online classes from home, or a hybrid week. You pick the zones and the hours, so a tutor in Jayanagar can keep to the Green Line belt and one in Whitefield to the Purple Line, teaching everyone else online. Each tutor who joins passes the same ID check, and the first lesson is a demo where we ask a parent to be present. These are the controls the platform has, not a promise about anyone's conduct.

  • Pick home, online or both, and switch whenever your week changes.
  • Add only the zones you want; if you prefer not to cross the ORR or the Hebbal flyover in the evening, leave those areas off.
  • Meet each family first at the free demo, held where we ask a parent to be at home.
  • In Whitefield, Sarjapur Road and Electronic City towers, ask to be pre-registered at the security desk so every visit is logged, and carry photo ID.
  • Keep fees, timings and messages with a parent rather than the student's own phone.
  • Teach younger children in a shared room with an adult in the house; online, keep cameras on.
  • Stop any arrangement that worries you and tell NXTutors, marked Safeguarding; for danger, call 112 first.

Read the safeguarding policy and how the ID check works.

Why tutors choose NXTutors

What is different from a directory listing or a tuition bureau.

  • You set your fee

Your fee per class is on your profile, and families see it before the demo, so there is no haggling after a good class.

  • Matched, nearest first

Each request goes to two or three tutors who fit it, nearest first, not to a long list of people chasing the same family.

  • Demo first

The first class is a free demo. Families decide after meeting you, not from a phone call or a price list.

  • No made-up leads

We never show invented requests. The only request details on these pages are real and anonymised, and only once there are three or more.

  • An ID check for everyone

Every tutor who joins goes through the same ID check. Real tutors who pass carry the Verified badge; sample profiles are always labelled.

  • AI-first, with real teachers

Parents can ask NXT AI about your profile and compare tutors side by side. The teaching is always yours.

Tutor plans and what each includes

Tutor plans are listed on our pricing page with what each one includes. Read them before you apply; we do not quote prices on this page. Tutors are independent: you set your own fee, and families pay you for the classes they take.

Questions from tutors

How do tuition requests in Bengaluru reach me?

A family sends one request with the class, board, subjects, their layout or road and the times that suit them. NXTutors then shortlists two or three tutors, starting with those who live in that area, then the same zone, then elsewhere in Bengaluru, then online. If your profile fits, you are one of the tutors the family sees.

Can I teach online from Bengaluru, or must I travel?

Both are possible. You can keep home visits to the zone you live in, or to stops along one metro line, and teach students in the rest of the city, or anywhere in India, online. Online tutors appear after local ones in a family's shortlist for home tuition, so a clear online offer on your profile still matters.

Which areas of Bengaluru should I list on my profile?

List the layouts you can reach on a weekday evening, not every zone. A tutor in Jayanagar might cover JP Nagar and BTM by metro but not Whitefield, and one in Hebbal may stay north of the flyover. Accurate areas put you earlier in the shortlist for families close to you, which matters more than a long list.

What does the ID check involve?

Tutors who join go through an ID check: you confirm your phone or email with a one-time code and upload a government photo ID, which the team reviews before your profile is marked Verified. Real tutors who pass carry a Verified badge. It is an identity check, not a background check, and the steps are set out at /how-we-verify-tutors.

What does it cost to be listed as a tutor?

Joining NXTutors and onboarding are free, and the Free plan includes 160 lead credits a month. Paid plans on /pricing are optional platform subscriptions that add visibility, AI tools and more credits; none of them is a fee to apply for a tuition. Separately, you set your own lesson fee, and families see it on your profile before the free first demo. Families can switch tutors later at no cost, so steady, well-prepared lessons are what keep a student with you.

I am a woman tutor in Bengaluru. Can I keep home lessons close to where I live?

Yes. Choose the zones you will travel to, perhaps only your own layout and one metro line; home requests come from those zones, and your listed hours show parents when you teach. You meet each family at a demo where we ask a parent to be at home, and can teach other students online.

Which boards can I teach in Bengaluru?

Requests span the Karnataka board's SSLC and PUC, CBSE, CISCE's ICSE and ISC, and the IB Diploma and Cambridge IGCSE. Put only the boards and classes you know well on your profile, and say whether you teach PUC subjects in Kannada or English medium.

Can I work a hybrid week with one Bengaluru family?

Yes. Tick both home and online and agree the split with the parent after the demo. Across the ORR belt, one workable pattern is a weekend home session for new topics and written work, with a shorter online class midweek when traffic makes a visit hard to keep.
