Primary tutor jobs in Bengaluru (Classes 1 to 5)

Primary tuition is the most local work a Bengaluru tutor can do. A Class 2 child needs a short, frequent visit far more than a specialist, and for Classes 1 to 3 home is clearly better than a screen, because the tutor has to see the pencil, the way a number is formed and the finger moving along a line of print. That makes this a strong fit for tutors who want students within their own layout.

Who asks for primary (class 1–5) tutors in Bengaluru

Parents usually call when a pattern has lasted more than a term: reading that stays slow after Class 2, finger-counting for simple addition into Class 3, panic at word problems, homework that ends in tears, or the same teacher comment term after term. A move into Bengaluru or a change of board often triggers it, leaving gaps in topics the new class assumes.

The board shapes the materials more than the goals. Karnataka state-board schools lead towards the SSLC and teach from their own textbooks in the child's medium; ask the school which language order it follows. CBSE primary schools choose books and test patterns within the board's framework. CISCE leaves Classes I to VIII to school-chosen books, and English expectations tend to be high. IB Primary Years Programme schools, for ages 3 to 12, work through transdisciplinary units of inquiry ending in the Exhibition, and some schools follow Cambridge Primary with optional Checkpoint assessments.

Language subjects are where primary children here often struggle quietly, especially in families from another state, or where the school's second or third language, Kannada or Hindi, is not spoken at home. Parents ask for a named language, class and textbook, and sometimes for a short weekly language session alongside a main tutor for English reading and maths.

Where in Bengaluru the work is

Because sessions are short and after school, the tutor's own address matters most. Jayanagar, JP Nagar and Banashankari and Malleshwaram, Rajajinagar and Yeshwanthpur are mostly independent houses where you ring the bell, which suits several short visits in one afternoon. Vijayanagar, RR Nagar and Kengeri have plotted layouts in Basaveshwaranagar and Nagarbhavi with room for a two-wheeler; share the stage, block and a map pin, since some streets are steep.

In the north and east, timing is the issue. In Hebbal, RT Nagar and Yelahanka, a tutor from the family's side of the Hebbal flyover keeps weekday times. In Koramangala, HSR and Bellandur, choose families who do not need you to cross the ORR at school closing time. Hennur, Kalyan Nagar and Banaswadi have no metro, so late afternoon avoids the office traffic on main roads. In Whitefield towers, some societies ask for photo ID on the first visit.

Online can still play a part once a child is in Class 4 or 5. A focused child can manage reading discussions, mental maths and feedback on a short composition over a video call, which lets a tutor in Electronic City or Yelahanka keep home visits to their own zone and still help a family across town. Keep cameras on, keep sessions short, and ask a parent to stay nearby for younger children.

What families in Bengaluru expect

  • Teach the skill behind the homework rather than finishing it for the child.
  • Work from the school's own books and term syllabus, in the medium the child uses.
  • Read aloud with the child every session and build comprehension, not just decoding.
  • Build number sense with objects before rules: place value, tables, fractions and word problems by class.
  • Ask which second or third language the school teaches, and say honestly whether you teach it.
  • For IB PYP children, support the unit of inquiry and research skills without doing the project.
  • Keep a calm, fixed after-school slot and report briefly to the parent each week.

How to get picked

Primary parents in Bengaluru are choosing someone who will sit at their dining table every week, so they look for warmth, reliability and a clear method. Describe your hour: ten minutes reviewing the school diary and worksheets, twenty-five minutes teaching the skill, fifteen minutes watching the child start homework alone, ten minutes of reading or a number game. Mention the layouts you can reach on foot or by a short ride.

At the demo, hear the child read a page and solve three sums at rising difficulty, then tell the parent one strength and one gap in plain words. Offer a plan for the first month and how you will report progress. Information about credits, leads and how you get paid is in the sections below.

Joining, leads and pay

Joining is free

Applying, onboarding, building your profile, the ID check and receiving matched requests on the Free plan cost nothing. The Free plan gives you 160 lead credits every month.

Paid plans are optional

Pro, Premium and Featured are optional platform subscriptions: more visibility, AI tools and more lead credits. They are never a fee to apply for a tuition. See tutor plans.

How leads and credits work

A family request that fits your subjects, classes, board, areas and hours reaches your dashboard. Opening the family's contact details uses lead credits, and the credit price is shown on the request before you open it. At most 5 tutors can open one request, and a request stays open for 7 days. Credit packs are there if you need more.

How you get paid

You set your own fee. When a family pays for classes through NXTutors, you receive 50% of the fee for home tuition in the first month and the full fee after that, and 70% of the fee for online tuition every month. Payments are held for 7 days, then paid out weekly. How you get paid.

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more.

Questions from tutors

Are primary tutoring jobs in Bengaluru home or online?

Mostly home for Classes 1 to 3, since young children need someone beside them. By Classes 4 and 5 some online work, such as reading discussion or mental maths, can fit between home visits.

Do I need to teach Kannada for primary tuition?

Not unless you list it. Many families want English reading and maths from the main tutor and a separate language session. If you teach Kannada or Hindi for school, name the class and textbook on your profile.

What do IB PYP families in Bengaluru expect?

Support for inquiry and research skills, reading stamina, number facts and clear writing. A PYP tutor should never turn inquiry into worksheets or do the child's project.

How many families can I see in one afternoon?

That depends on distance. In house-based neighbourhoods such as Jayanagar or Malleshwaram, short visits close together are realistic; in gated towers, allow extra time at the security desk.

Should I help with homework?

Yes, but by teaching. If a tutor routinely finishes the homework, the school sees work the child cannot do, and the gap widens. Parents value a tutor who explains this at the start.

Do Cambridge Primary families need anything different?

Use the school's stage and Cambridge-style questions if the school sits the optional Checkpoint assessments. Ask the class teacher or the parent for the term's syllabus before the demo, as you would for any board.
