Tutors who join go through an ID check. Tell us the class, board and your area: we share two or three matched tutors, each with their fee, and the first class is a free demo, at home or online.
Book a free demo classAcross NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

The primary years are where a child decides, quietly, whether they are "good at maths" or "bad at reading". A patient tutor in Classes 1 to 5 can stop that label forming. In Bengaluru the same street may hold a Karnataka state board pupil, a CBSE or ICSE child and an IB or Cambridge student, so the tutor has to adapt to the book on the table, not a fixed method. This guide from the NXTutors Academic Team covers the signs that a primary child needs help, what to focus on class by class, how the boards differ at this stage, the homework question, how tutors reach each part of the city, and what a good demo looks like.
Small difficulties at this age are normal. Look for a pattern that lasts more than a term:
One of these on its own may just need time. Two or three together are a reason to bring in a tutor before Class 6, when subjects multiply and the gaps become harder to close.
| Class | Reading and English | Maths | Habits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Class 1 | Letter sounds into fluent short words; reading aloud every session | Numbers to 100 with objects; adding and taking away by counting on | Sitting for a full task; packing the school bag |
| Class 2 | Short books read with expression; simple sentences written independently | Place value; the first tables; money and time on a clock | Doing homework at a fixed time |
| Class 3 | Answering "why" questions about a passage; paragraphs with capital letters and full stops | Multiplication and division facts; measurement; early fractions | Checking work before showing it |
| Class 4 | Reading longer chapters alone; a short composition with a beginning, middle and end | Long multiplication and division; fractions and decimals; word problems | Keeping a list of mistakes to revisit |
| Class 5 | Summaries and simple comprehension under time; spelling rules | Fractions, decimals and percentages together; area, perimeter and data | Planning a week of homework and tests |
Environmental studies, or science and social studies where they are separate, rarely need weekly tuition. A child who reads with understanding usually manages them once the reading is fixed.
| Board or programme | What to know | Tutor's adjustment |
|---|---|---|
| Karnataka state board | Leads to the SSLC at the end of Class 10, conducted by the Karnataka School Examination and Assessment Board | Work from the school's own textbooks in the child's medium, and ask the school which language order it follows |
| CBSE | The board's own examinations come at the end of Classes 10 and 12; ask which books the school uses in the primary classes | Follow the school's books and its test pattern, and keep reading and arithmetic strong |
| ICSE | CISCE regulations leave Classes I to VIII to books chosen by the school | Ask for the book list at the start of the year; English expectations tend to be high |
| IB Primary Years Programme | Ages 3 to 12, organised around transdisciplinary themes, with the Exhibition in the final year | Support the unit of inquiry and research skills rather than drill; never do the child's project |
| Cambridge Primary | Typically ages 5 to 11; optional assessments include Cambridge Primary Checkpoint | Use the school's stage and Cambridge-style questions if the school sits Checkpoint |
Whatever the board, ask the school or the class teacher for the term's syllabus and share it with the tutor before the demo. For later choices, our guide to choosing a board and stream sets out the trade-offs, and the Karnataka board tutors in Bengaluru page covers the state board in more depth.
Many parents first look for a tutor because homework has become a nightly battle. A tutor can help, but only if the session is not spent writing answers for the child. A sensible split for an hour:
The rest of the homework is the child's job. If the tutor routinely finishes it, the school sees work your child cannot actually do, and the gap widens.
Language subjects are where primary children in Bengaluru often struggle quietly, especially in families that have moved from another state, or where the school's second or third language is not spoken at home. A general primary tutor may not teach every language well, so be specific: name the language, the class and the textbook. Sometimes the right answer is a separate short weekly session with a language specialist, while the main tutor covers reading in English and maths. Our English home tutors in Bengaluru page covers English from the early classes upward.
| Zone | Typical route | After-school tip |
|---|---|---|
| Indiranagar & Old Airport Road | Purple Line to Indiranagar, or a bus to the Domlur terminus | Start before the evening crowd builds on 100 Feet Road |
| Hebbal, RT Nagar & Yelahanka | By road; the Blue Line stations here are still being built | A tutor from your side of the Hebbal flyover keeps weekday times |
| Koramangala, HSR & Bellandur | Yellow Line to Central Silk Board for the HSR side; by road beyond it | Choose a tutor who does not need to cross the ORR at school closing time |
| Whitefield, Marathahalli & KR Puram | Purple Line and a short auto | Some societies ask for photo ID on the first visit |
| Hennur, Kalyan Nagar & Banaswadi | Bus, two-wheeler or cab | Late afternoon avoids the office traffic on the main roads |
| Vijayanagar, RR Nagar & Kengeri | Purple Line west, then an auto | Share the stage, block and a map pin; some streets are steep |

For Classes 1 to 3, home is clearly better: the tutor needs to see the pencil, the way a number is formed and the finger moving along a line of print. By Classes 4 and 5, a focused child can manage some online work, such as reading discussions, mental maths and checking a composition shared on screen. A useful pattern for a family on the far side of the ORR from a good tutor is one home session at the weekend and one shorter online session midweek. See our online tutoring for Bengaluru students page for the desk setup.

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Primary tuition generally sits in the lower part of that range. What moves the figure is the number of subjects, whether a language specialist is involved, how many visits a week you want, and the tutor's journey at your hour. Each tutor sets their own fee and you see it before the demo. The Bengaluru home tuition fees guide and our pricing guide have more detail.
In Banaswadi, many homes are independent houses, so the tutor comes straight to the door; the nearest metro stations are on the Purple Line, so the last stretch is by auto or bus. Basavanagudi, beside Lalbagh, has the Green Line at National College, and tutors often find metro travel easier than parking near Gandhi Bazaar. RT Nagar has no metro station, but tutors living nearby can reach its houses without crossing the Hebbal flyover.
Basaveshwaranagar is settled and green, with street parking on most inner roads. Domlur has no station of its own, but its bus terminus helps tutors who travel by BMTC. And in Bommanahalli, the Yellow Line station on Hosur Road has made the trip simpler for tutors from BTM Layout or HSR Layout.

When a difficulty lasts more than a term: reading that stays slow after Class 2, finger counting into Class 3, panic over word problems, or homework that fills every evening. Two or three of these together are a good reason to start before Class 6, when new subjects arrive and gaps get harder to close.
Usually yes for English reading, maths and environmental studies, which is what most primary children need. Language subjects such as Kannada or Hindi can be different: if the tutor is not comfortable with the textbook, add a short weekly session with a language specialist rather than letting the main tutor guess.
Help, yes; do it, no. A good session spends most of its time teaching the skill behind the homework and then watching your child start the work alone. If the tutor routinely writes the answers, the school sees work your child cannot really do, and the real gap keeps growing unnoticed.
Yes. We match on the board, the class and the textbooks your child's school uses, and for state board children on the medium of instruction as well. Share the term syllabus and the book list before the demo so the tutor can prepare from the right material rather than a generic workbook.
They support the way those programmes teach. The IB PYP runs from ages 3 to 12 around transdisciplinary themes with an Exhibition in the final year, and Cambridge Primary typically covers ages 5 to 11 with optional Checkpoint tests. The tutor should build research, reading and reasoning skills, never complete projects for the child.
For Classes 1 to 3, home tuition works much better, because the tutor needs to watch handwriting and number formation closely. From Class 4, a focused child can manage some online sessions for reading discussion or mental maths. In Bengaluru, a weekend home visit plus a shorter online session midweek is a practical mix.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour, and primary tuition generally sits in the lower part of that range. The number of subjects, a language specialist, visits per week and the tutor's journey at your time all move the figure. Every fee is shown before the free demo.
