TutorTwin: Homework Help on WhatsApp, a Parent's Guide

By NXTutors Academic Team 8 min read

Homework doubts rarely arrive at a convenient time. A student gets stuck on question 7 at 10 pm, the tutor comes on Thursday, and the homework is due tomorrow. TutorTwin is an AI tutor on WhatsApp, made by NXTutors Edtech, built for exactly that gap.

This guide is for parents deciding whether to let a child use it. It covers how a student uses it (with two examples), good habits, what it will not do, safety and privacy for under-18s, the plans at the time of writing, and how it fits alongside a human tutor.

What TutorTwin is

TutorTwin lives inside WhatsApp. There is no app to download and nothing new for your child to learn. The student sends a question, and TutorTwin sends back a step-by-step worked explanation, usually within seconds, at any hour.

A student can send:

  • a typed question;
  • a photo of homework, printed or handwritten;
  • a PDF, such as a worksheet;
  • a voice note.

It replies in English, Hindi or Hinglish, matching however the student writes. It also keeps a small memory for each student: the misconceptions they tend to repeat, what they are focusing on and their exam dates. That lets it make practice questions like one the student got wrong, set short quizzes, and send answers as a PDF for revision.

Subjects available at the time of writing are Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, English, Computer Science, Social Science and Economics.

How a student uses it: two examples

Example 1: a photo of a maths question

Your child photographs a worksheet and types a short instruction: "solve Q3". Q3 reads: Solve 2x² − 5x + 3 = 0.

TutorTwin replies with the working, not just the answer, along these lines:

  1. Multiply the first and last coefficients: 2 × 3 = 6. Find two numbers that multiply to 6 and add to −5: these are −2 and −3.
  2. Split the middle term: 2x² − 2x − 3x + 3 = 0.
  3. Group and factorise: 2x(x − 1) − 3(x − 1) = 0, so (2x − 3)(x − 1) = 0.
  4. So x = 3/2 or x = 1.
  5. Check: putting x = 1 gives 2 − 5 + 3 = 0.

Two practical points. A photo needs a short instruction such as "solve Q3" or "explain step 2", otherwise TutorTwin does not know which question on the page your child means. And if the photo is blurry, TutorTwin will ask for a clearer one rather than guess.

Example 2: a Hinglish voice note

Your child records a voice note: "Photosynthesis mein light reaction aur dark reaction mein kya difference hai?" TutorTwin replies in Hinglish, explaining where each reaction happens, what goes in and what comes out. Your child can then ask a follow-up, such as "ek example do", in the same thread. If your child writes in English next time, it replies in English.

Good habits that make it work

Sit with your child for the first few sessions and agree on these habits.

  • Try first. Attempt the question for a fixed time before asking. Then send the attempt along with the question: "I got x = 2, where did I go wrong?"
  • Ask for hints. "Give me only the first step" or "give me a hint, not the answer" keeps your child doing the thinking.
  • Check answers. TutorTwin is an AI and can make mistakes. Compare important answers with the textbook, the answer key or the tutor, especially in maths and numerical science.
  • Use it to revise. Ask for five questions like the one your child got wrong, a short quiz before a test, or a PDF of the answers to keep with notes.
  • Tell it about exams. Mentioning an exam date and weak chapters lets TutorTwin's memory focus the practice.

What TutorTwin will not do

  • It will not pretend to be a person. It is an AI and never claims to be a person or a teacher.
  • It will not do assessed work as if it were your child's. TutorTwin is a tutor, not a ghost-writer. Projects, internal assessments and anything submitted for marks as your child's own work are off limits.
  • It is not always right. Answers, including maths answers, can contain mistakes.
  • It is not a search engine. It explains and works through problems. For the latest syllabus changes, exam dates or school notices, rely on the board website and the school.
  • Do not assume unlimited use. Each plan has its own terms, so check what your plan includes on the site.

Safety and privacy for under-18s

If your child is under 18, a parent or guardian should set up the subscription or give permission for it.

On AI-only plans, nobody reads the chats, except NXTutors staff where needed for support, safety or legal reasons. If you choose the HumanAI option, a named real teacher can read the chat and reply, and their replies are marked as theirs, so your child always knows whether a message came from the AI or from the teacher.

Sensible family rules help too: keep chats to schoolwork, do not share personal details such as a home address or school ID in the chat, and tell a parent if anything seems odd.

Plans at the time of writing

These are the prices on 28 September 2026. Prices and what each plan includes can change, so check the TutorTwin site for current details before you subscribe.

PlanPriceWhat it includes
1-day trial₹4915 answers, photos included
Solofrom ₹499/monthTyped questions only
Profrom ₹999/monthPhotos, PDFs and voice notes
All subjectsfrom ₹3,999/monthAll available subjects

There is no free trial; the ₹49 one-day trial is the way to test it. How to choose: if most homework is on printed worksheets or in a notebook, your child will want to send photos, which means Pro rather than Solo.

How TutorTwin fits alongside a human tutor

TutorTwin is most useful between classes. A human tutor sees how your child thinks, plans which chapters to fix first, spots patterns in mistakes and adjusts the pace. TutorTwin handles the doubt at 10 pm, the extra practice on a weak topic, and the quick quiz before a test.

A simple routine that works for many families:

  1. The tutor teaches a topic and sets homework.
  2. Your child attempts the homework and uses TutorTwin for hints when stuck.
  3. Your child notes the questions that needed help and takes them to the next class.
  4. The tutor goes over those questions and decides what to practise next.

If you want a real teacher involved in the chat itself, the HumanAI option lets a named teacher read the conversation and reply. And if your child does not yet have a tutor, you can find a tutor on NXTutors or book a free demo class on NXTutors. For more on how we use AI across the platform, read how NXTutors uses AI.

Frequently asked questions

Does TutorTwin have a free trial?

No, TutorTwin has no free trial; at the time of writing, a paid one-day trial with 15 answers, photos included, is the way to test it. Prices and what each plan includes can change, so check the TutorTwin site for current details before you subscribe. If most homework is on printed worksheets or in a notebook, pick a plan that accepts photos.

Can TutorTwin reply in Hindi?

Yes, TutorTwin replies in Hindi, English or Hinglish, matching however your child writes or speaks. A voice note asked in Hinglish gets a Hinglish reply, and a follow-up such as ek example do works in the same thread. If your child writes in English next time, TutorTwin replies in English, with no setting to change.

Will a teacher read my child's TutorTwin chats?

On TutorTwin's AI-only plans, no teacher reads your child's chats; only NXTutors staff may see them where needed for support, safety or legal reasons. With the HumanAI option, a named real teacher can read the chat and reply. Their messages are marked as theirs, so your child always knows whether a reply came from the AI or the teacher.

Are TutorTwin's answers always correct?

No, TutorTwin's answers are not always correct, because it is an AI and can make mistakes, including in maths. Your child should check important answers against the textbook, an answer key or their tutor, especially in maths and numerical science. Sending an attempt along with the question and asking where it went wrong also makes errors easier to spot.

Can my child use TutorTwin for a school project?

Your child can use TutorTwin to understand a concept needed for a school project, but it will not do assessed work as if it were your child's own. Projects, internal assessments and anything submitted for marks are off limits, because TutorTwin is a tutor, not a ghost-writer. Your child can still ask for explanations, hints and practice questions on the topic.

What can a student send to TutorTwin on WhatsApp?

A student can send TutorTwin a typed question, a photo of printed or handwritten homework, a PDF such as a worksheet, or a voice note on WhatsApp. A photo needs a short instruction such as solve Q3, and a blurry photo gets a request for a clearer one. Which formats are included depends on the plan; Solo takes typed questions only.

Does TutorTwin replace a home tutor?

No, TutorTwin does not replace a home tutor; it is most useful between classes, for the late-night doubt, extra practice on a weak topic and a quick quiz. A human tutor sees how your child thinks, plans which chapters to fix first and adjusts the pace. Your child can note the questions that needed help and take them to the next class.

What should parents of under-18s know before using TutorTwin?

Parents of under-18s should know that a parent or guardian must set up the TutorTwin subscription or give permission for it. TutorTwin never claims to be a person or a teacher. Family rules help too: keep chats to schoolwork, do not share personal details such as a home address or school ID, and tell a parent if anything seems odd.
