Home Tuition in South Bengaluru: A Locality and Metro Guide
South Bengaluru holds some of the city's oldest planned layouts and some of its newest apartment towers. In Jayanagar and Basavanagudi most homes are independent houses, so a tutor simply rings the bell; in Bellandur, along Sarjapur Road and in Electronic City most families live in gated communities, where the tutor's name has to reach the security desk first. Two metro lines already serve the south, the Green Line and the Yellow Line, while the Pink Line along Bannerghatta Road and the Blue Line along the Outer Ring Road are not open yet.
This guide covers three zones and, for each locality, the stations tutors use today, the gate or doorstep routine, and the timing that keeps a weekday class regular.
How do the three zones compare?
| Zone | Metro tutors can use today | Homes you will mostly find | The first visit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Koramangala, HSR and Bellandur | Central Silk Board (Yellow Line); none yet in Bellandur or on Sarjapur Road | Houses and builder floors in Koramangala and HSR; gated apartments further east | Doorstep in older blocks, gate registration in societies |
| Jayanagar, JP Nagar and Banashankari | The Green Line, National College to Silk Institute | Independent houses and low-rise flats; apartment projects on Kanakapura Road | Mostly doorstep; gate entry on Kanakapura Road |
| BTM, Bannerghatta Road and Electronic City | The Yellow Line along Hosur Road; the Pink Line on Bannerghatta Road is not open | Mixed housing in BTM Layout; large gated communities in Electronic City | Gate registration in most societies, doorstep in older layouts |
Koramangala, HSR and Bellandur
The Outer Ring Road, built by the Bangalore Development Authority in sections between 1996 and 2002, ties this zone together on its way to Marathahalli. Central Silk Board station on the Yellow Line opened in August 2025 and is planned as an interchange with the Blue Line, still under construction along the Outer Ring Road with stations including HSR Layout, Agara and Ibbaluru. Until it opens, most tutors here travel by road.
- Koramangala: eight numbered blocks, split by the Inner Ring Road into blocks 1 to 4 and 5 to 8, with Hosur Road along one side. Houses on the quiet cross roads mean a doorstep visit; apartment buildings ask for a name at the gate. An early-evening or weekend-morning slot avoids the heaviest Hosur Road traffic.
- HSR Layout: named after Hosur Road and Sarjapur Road, developed by the BDA from 1985 in seven sectors on a grid. Houses and builder floors mean a doorstep visit; apartment communities need gate registration. A tutor on the Yellow Line takes an auto from Central Silk Board; avoid office hours at the junction.
- Bellandur: bounded by HSR Layout, Sarjapur Road and Bellandur Lake, with the Outer Ring Road running through it. Most homes are gated communities, so share the tower and flat number early. Tutors come by road from HSR Layout, Sarjapur Road or Marathahalli; a slot after the evening peak starts more reliably.
- Sarjapur Road: runs south-east from the Agara, Ibbaluru and Bellandur junction towards Dommasandra and Sarjapura, through Kasavanahalli, Carmelaram and Doddakannelli. Nearly every home is in a gated society, so pre-register the tutor and keep the same weekly slot. With no metro here, weekend mornings suit, and many families take advanced subjects online.
Jayanagar, JP Nagar and Banashankari
This is the Green Line's zone. Its stations from National College through Lalbagh, Jayanagar and Banashankari to Yelachenahalli opened on 18 June 2017, and the Kanakapura Road extension, from Konanakunte Cross to Silk Institute, on 15 January 2021. Rashtreeya Vidyalaya Road is the interchange with the Yellow Line.
- Jayanagar: founded in 1948 as one of Bengaluru's first planned neighbourhoods. Most homes are independent houses, so the tutor rings the doorbell. Parking near the 4th Block shops is tight in the evening, so South End Circle or Jayanagar station and a short auto is simpler.
- Basavanagudi: one of the city's oldest residential localities, beside Jayanagar and Lalbagh, named after its Bull Temple (basava means bull, gudi means temple). National College station serves it. Older houses with gardens mean a doorstep visit, but evening parking near the market roads is limited, so the metro suits tutors better.
- JP Nagar: developed by the BDA from the late 1970s in numbered phases: the early ones inside the Outer Ring Road, the middle ones towards Puttenahalli and Arekere, the later ones reaching Gottigere and Anjanapura. Jaya Prakash Nagar station serves the inner phases. Share the exact phase and cross road, and consider online classes for the outer phases.
- Banashankari: stretches from Mysore Road to Kanakapura Road in six stages. Stages 1 to 3, inside the Outer Ring Road, are easy to reach from Banashankari station beside the large bus station; stages 4 to 6 are easier by road. Independent houses usually mean a doorstep visit.
- Kumaraswamy Layout: a BDA layout from the late 1970s in two stages, with pockets such as Vasanthapura and Subramanyapura. Banashankari, Jaya Prakash Nagar and Yelachenahalli stations are close. Detached houses mean the tutor walks up to the door and parks easily; an early slot beats the evening build-up on Kanakapura Road.
- Kanakapura Road: the southern stretch has grown quickly since the 2021 extension. Homes are mostly gated apartment projects, so register the tutor at the gate with the tower and flat number. Tutors from Jayanagar or Banashankari ride the Green Line and finish on foot or by auto; the NICE Road junction is busy at office hours.
BTM, Bannerghatta Road and Electronic City
The Yellow Line changed this zone in August 2025. Inaugurated on 10 August and carrying passengers from 11 August, it runs from Rashtreeya Vidyalaya Road to Bommasandra with 16 stations, among them BTM Layout, Central Silk Board, Bommanahalli, Kudlu Gate, Hosa Road and Electronic City, parallel to Hosur Road south of Silk Board. The elevated expressway above Hosur Road opened on 22 January 2010. On Bannerghatta Road, the Pink Line's elevated section from Kalena Agrahara to Tavarekere, including Hulimavu station, is built but not yet open.
- BTM Layout: named after Byrasandra, Tavarekere and Madiwala, with the Outer Ring Road separating the 1st Stage from the later stages. BTM Layout and Central Silk Board stations bring tutors from Jayanagar or Hosur Road. Houses mean a doorstep visit and apartments need gate entry; avoid the Silk Board rush.
- Bannerghatta Road: branches off Hosur Road near Adugodi and runs south past JP Nagar, Arekere, Hulimavu and Gottigere, with underpasses at junctions such as Dairy Circle. Until the Pink Line opens, most tutors come by road. Gated apartments need registration, older layouts allow a doorstep visit.
- Arekere: sits on Bannerghatta Road and takes in layouts such as Puttenahalli, Bilekahalli and Shantiniketan Layout, with Hulimavu to the south-east and JP Nagar to the west. Older houses allow a doorstep visit and newer complexes need gate registration. Tutors come by road, or by the Yellow Line and an auto.
- Bommanahalli: along Hosur Road between Silk Board and Electronic City, with its own Yellow Line station and Hongasandra next door. The expressway above carries through traffic while local traffic uses the road below. Gated societies need visitor registration, and evening traffic makes an earlier or later slot sensible.
- Begur: an inscription at its Panchalingeshwara temple is the oldest existing reference to a place called Bengaluru. Begur Road links it to Hosur Road and Bannerghatta Road. Tutors come from HSR Layout, BTM Layout or Bommanahalli, by the Yellow Line and an auto or by road; avoid the peak on Begur Road.
- Electronic City: set up in 1978 by the state electronics development corporation as an industrial township on Hosur Road, with Phase I and Phase II as the main areas. Most homes are gated communities with visitor registration. Electronic City, Beratena Agrahara and Hosa Road stations are nearby; plan the slot around office shift timings.
Which weekday slot suits south Bengaluru?
- Near a Green or Yellow Line station: a tutor who comes by metro can keep an evening slot.
- On the Outer Ring Road, Sarjapur Road or Bannerghatta Road: start soon after school or after the evening peak, with a tutor from your side of the road.
- In the outer phases and stages: use weekend mornings, or move a specialist subject online.

Frequently asked questions
Which metro station serves HSR Layout?
Central Silk Board station on the Yellow Line, open since August 2025, serves the HSR and BTM side of the junction, and tutors usually take an auto into the sectors. The Blue Line will add an HSR Layout station on the Outer Ring Road, but it is still under construction and not open.
Do tutors need gate registration in Bellandur and on Sarjapur Road?
Usually, yes. Most homes in both areas are in gated communities, so give security the tutor's name before the free demo class and share the tower and flat number. Keeping the same weekly slot helps, because the guards come to expect the tutor and entry gets quicker.
Is Electronic City easy for a tutor to reach?
Easier than before. The Yellow Line has run along Hosur Road since August 2025, with Electronic City, Konappana Agrahara, Beratena Agrahara and Hosa Road stations nearby, and the elevated expressway carries road traffic from Silk Board. Most tutors finish the trip by auto, so plan the slot around office shift timings.
How should we share a JP Nagar address with a tutor?
Give the exact phase and cross road, because JP Nagar's phases run from inside the Outer Ring Road to Gottigere and Anjanapura. Jaya Prakash Nagar station on the Green Line serves the inner phases. For the outer phases, a nearby tutor or online classes are often the more practical choice.
How much does home tuition cost in south Bengaluru?
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Each tutor sets their own fee, which you see before the free demo class.
