Home Tuition in North Bengaluru: From Hennur to Yelahanka
North Bengaluru is the part of the city still waiting for its metro. The Blue Line from KR Puram to the airport, Phase 2B, will run along the Outer Ring Road through Kalyan Nagar and HRBR Layout and then up Bellary Road past Hebbal and Yelahanka, but every station on it is under construction, with opening expected in December 2028. Until then a home tutor here usually arrives by bus, two-wheeler, cab or, in a few places, suburban train, and the choice of tutor matters as much for the route as for the subject.
This guide covers two zones: Hennur, Kalyan Nagar and Banaswadi in the north-east, and Hebbal, RT Nagar and Yelahanka along the airport road. It sets out how tutors travel today, then goes locality by locality through homes, gates and timing.

In practice, the most reliable weekday tutor in this part of the city is often one who already lives in or next to your locality. A wider search is still worth it for specialist subjects, where an online class can sit alongside a nearby home tutor.
Hennur, Kalyan Nagar and Banaswadi
The Outer Ring Road passes through Banaswadi and links this corner of the city with KR Puram, Mahadevapura and Marathahalli. Kalyan Nagar lies near Banaswadi and Horamavu along Hennur Road and takes in HRBR Layout and Chelekere. Much of the zone is independent houses and builder floors on organised layouts, where the tutor comes straight to the door, with apartment complexes and gated communities along the main roads and in Thanisandra.
Hennur
Hennur sits along Hennur Road just outside the Outer Ring Road and has grown from a quiet suburb into a busy residential area, next to Kalyan Nagar, HRBR Layout, HBR Layout, Kothanur and Byrathi. Apartment complexes and gated villa communities line the main road, with houses, builder floors and plots in the layouts behind. Gated communities usually ask families to pre-register the tutor. Hennur Road carries steady traffic towards the Outer Ring Road, so a tutor from Hennur, Kalyan Nagar or Kothanur keeps weekday classes steadier.
Kalyan Nagar
A settled area with Hennur Road on one side and the Outer Ring Road close by, Kalyan Nagar has organised colony streets of independent houses and builder floors, newer apartment blocks, and cafe and restaurant streets, with Kammanahalli next door. The tutor usually comes straight to the door, though two-wheeler parking near the cafe stretches can be tight in the evening. Classes right after school avoid the worst of the office traffic.
HRBR Layout
A planned layout in numbered blocks with wide roads and parks, often counted as part of Kalyan Nagar, with Banaswadi, Lingarajapuram and Channasandra close by. Most homes are independent houses and multi-floor buildings on individual sites, so there is rarely a gate to arrange, and the block and cross numbering makes addresses easy to find. Evening office traffic on the Outer Ring Road is the main timing factor.
Banaswadi
Once a village on the city's edge, Banaswadi is now largely residential with busier commercial streets, bounded by Lingarajapuram, Nagawara, Thanisandra, Krishnarajapuram and Maruthi Sevanagar. Banaswadi railway station, in Maruthi Sevanagar, is on the line linking Yesvantpur Junction and Baiyappanahalli and has three platforms. Many homes are independent houses with a doorstep visit. Banaswadi Main Road gets busy at office hours, so late-afternoon slots are easier to keep.
Thanisandra
On the route to the airport, adjoining Hebbal, Nagawara and Kammanahalli, Thanisandra has filled with apartment complexes as professionals moved north, and most homes are flats in gated societies. Share the tutor's name and phone number with the security desk before the demo. Thanisandra Main Road carries heavy office traffic, so weekend and after-school slots are easiest, and online classes suit specialist subjects.
Hebbal, RT Nagar and Yelahanka
All the arterial roads to the airport at Devanahalli, which opened in May 2008, meet at Hebbal, where the flyover links the Outer Ring Road with NH 44 (Bellary Road). The same highway runs on through Yelahanka, and planned Blue Line stations along it include Hebbala, Kodigehalli, Jakkuru Cross, Yelahanka and Bagalur Cross. Airport and office traffic shapes every timetable in this zone.
Hebbal
Known for its lake and its flyover, Hebbal has high-rise apartments and gated societies alongside mid-range flats, independent houses and villas, with Kanaka Nagar, Nagavara, Ganga Nagar and Mathikere as neighbours. Hebbal has a railway station, and Hebbala station on the Blue Line is under construction. Gated societies need visitor registration; houses on the older side streets are doorstep visits. For weekday evenings, a tutor who lives on your side of the flyover is more reliable.
RT Nagar
A long-established residential area in two blocks, with lanes of independent houses, builder floors and a few apartments, often with shops below and homes above, and roads out to Hebbal, Yeshwanthpur and the city centre. There is no metro station, so tutors arrive by BMTC bus, two-wheeler or auto, and usually reach the doorstep directly. A tutor from RT Nagar or Hebbal can keep weekday evening visits without crossing the flyover at peak time.
Yelahanka
An old town that predates the city, split into Yelahanka Old Town and Yelahanka New Town, a planned township developed by the Karnataka Housing Board in the early 1980s. Houses and plots fill the New Town layouts, with older homes in the Old Town and a growing number of apartment complexes. Yelahanka Junction is a South Western Railway junction, and Doddaballapur Road (State Highway 9) crosses the area. New Town houses mean a doorstep visit; societies ask for gate registration. With airport traffic on Bellary Road, a tutor from Yelahanka itself suits regular weekday classes.
A weekday timetable that works north of the Outer Ring Road
- Choose the tutor by route first. A tutor who does not have to cross the Hebbal flyover or the Outer Ring Road at office hours is the one who will arrive on time through the term.
- Start soon after school. In Kalyan Nagar, HRBR Layout and Banaswadi, a class that begins before the office rush is the easiest to keep.
- Use the suburban stations. Banaswadi, Hebbal and Yelahanka Junction give some tutors a rail route; ask whether it suits theirs.
- Put specialist subjects online. For IB, IGCSE or JEE-level physics and maths, an online specialist widens the pool without adding trips.

Frequently asked questions
Is there a metro to Hebbal or Yelahanka yet?
There is no metro to Hebbal or Yelahanka yet, since both stations on the Blue Line from KR Puram to the airport are still under construction. Opening is expected in December 2028. Until then tutors come by bus, two-wheeler, cab or train, since Hebbal has a railway station and Yelahanka Junction is a railway junction.
Which station is nearest to Banaswadi?
Banaswadi railway station, in Maruthi Sevanagar, is the station nearest to Banaswadi, on the line linking Yesvantpur Junction and Baiyappanahalli. The nearest metro stations are Baiyappanahalli, Benniganahalli and Swami Vivekananda Road on the Purple Line, so a tutor who comes by metro usually takes an auto or bus for the last part.
Do tutors need gate registration in Kalyan Nagar and HRBR Layout?
Tutors rarely need gate registration in Kalyan Nagar and HRBR Layout, because most homes there are independent houses or small buildings on organised layouts. The family simply meets the tutor at the door; apartment blocks are the exception. Share the block and cross number, and mention parking if your street has cafes nearby.
When is the easiest time for a home class near the Hebbal flyover?
After-school and weekend slots are the easiest times for a home class near the Hebbal flyover, because airport and office traffic on Bellary Road is heavy at peak hours. Weekday classes work more smoothly with a tutor who lives on your side of the flyover, and a specialist subject can move online to save a trip.
Do tutors need to be registered at Thanisandra societies?
Yes, tutors need to be registered at most Thanisandra societies, because most homes there are flats in gated complexes. Share the tutor's name and phone number with the security desk before the demo. Thanisandra Main Road carries heavy office traffic, so weekend and after-school slots are easiest, and online classes suit specialist subjects.
Can a tutor reach Yelahanka by train?
