English tutor jobs in Bengaluru

Many English requests in Bengaluru begin with a move. A family relocates for a job in the eastern or south-eastern tech belts, the child switches from a state board elsewhere to CBSE, or from CBSE to an IGCSE school, and suddenly the classroom expects longer, more independent writing and much more reading. The gap is rarely vocabulary alone, and parents want a tutor who can see what the new school actually marks.

Who asks for english tutors in Bengaluru

The Karnataka state board sets its own textbooks and English papers for the SSLC and for the two PUC years. Families ask for a tutor who teaches from the prescribed state textbooks, practises the writing tasks the board's model papers ask for, and builds the basic exam habits: reading an unseen passage carefully, planning before writing and checking grammar in the last minutes. Language papers count in the SSLC total and sit beside the optional subjects in PUC, so a weak English mark pulls the whole result down.

CBSE Class 10 English is an 80-mark paper with reading 20, writing and grammar 20 and literature 40 from First Flight and Footprints without Feet, plus 20 from the school. Class 12 English Core gives reading 22, creative writing 18 and literature 40. ICSE has two papers, language and literature, each two hours and 80 marks with 20 internal; ISC has two three-hour papers of 80 with 20 marks of project work each and a composition of 400 to 450 words. Each of these rewards a different kind of writing practice.

International families add Cambridge IGCSE First Language (0500) or Second Language (0510) and IB Language A, with unseen analysis, a comparative essay and an oral. Younger children whose school has switched to English medium need reading stamina and sentence control more than literature. A profile that says which of these you teach, with syllabus codes for the international ones, is easier to match.

Where in Bengaluru the work is

Relocation-driven requests cluster where newer housing is: Whitefield, Marathahalli and KR Puram, where homes are mostly apartment towers and gated villa communities and some security desks ask for photo ID on a first visit, and Koramangala, HSR and Bellandur, where Bellandur and Sarjapur Road towers register every visitor. Electronic City's apartment communities also keep gate lists. The Purple Line reaches KR Puram and Whitefield; the Yellow Line reaches Electronic City.

Older neighbourhoods produce steady state-board and ICSE English work. Malleshwaram addresses use cross and main road numbers and are a short walk from Green Line stations; Frazer Town, Richmond Town and Ulsoor mix heritage bungalows with apartment buildings, and Ulsoor and Richmond Town are a walk from Halasuru and Trinity stations. English adapts well to online lessons, so a tutor can keep a few home students nearby and teach essay feedback to the rest on screen.

What families in Bengaluru expect

  • Say which papers you teach: SSLC or PUC English, CBSE Class 10 or 12, ICSE, ISC, IGCSE 0500 or 0510, or IB Language A.
  • Work from the prescribed textbooks and the board's own model or sample papers, not a generic grammar book.
  • Teach timed writing: ICSE compositions of 300 to 350 words, ISC compositions of 400 to 450 words, CBSE letters and analytical paragraphs.
  • Mark written work against the board's criteria and return it with specific corrections.
  • Help children new to Bengaluru or to English-medium school build reading stamina before literature analysis.
  • Ask whether English is the child's first or second language at school and pitch the level accordingly.
  • Keep lessons conversational where needed, but tied to what the paper rewards.

How to get picked

Parents can rarely judge English teaching from a list of qualifications, so show your method. In your profile, describe how you mark a piece of writing and what the student gets back. Name the boards and, for international students, the syllabus codes. If you work with children who have just moved to Bengaluru or changed board, say so plainly; that is a common worry here and a clear reason to choose a tutor.

At the demo, ask the student to write a short paragraph in ten minutes on a prompt from their own syllabus, then mark it in front of the parent: one structure point, one grammar point, one vocabulary point. Explain what a full-mark answer would add. Families then understand what they are paying for. How you get paid and how leads work are set out in the sections below.

Joining, leads and pay

Joining is free

Applying, onboarding, building your profile, the ID check and receiving matched requests on the Free plan cost nothing. The Free plan gives you 160 lead credits every month.

Paid plans are optional

Pro, Premium and Featured are optional platform subscriptions: more visibility, AI tools and more lead credits. They are never a fee to apply for a tuition. See tutor plans.

How leads and credits work

A family request that fits your subjects, classes, board, areas and hours reaches your dashboard. Opening the family's contact details uses lead credits, and the credit price is shown on the request before you open it. At most 5 tutors can open one request, and a request stays open for 7 days. Credit packs are there if you need more.

How you get paid

You set your own fee. When a family pays for classes through NXTutors, you receive 50% of the fee for home tuition in the first month and the full fee after that, and 70% of the fee for online tuition every month. Payments are held for 7 days, then paid out weekly. How you get paid.

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more.

Questions from tutors

Is there demand for spoken English in Bengaluru?

Most English requests are tied to a school paper: SSLC, PUC, CBSE, ICSE, ISC, IGCSE or IB. Families who ask for speaking skills usually want them for a board's internal listening and speaking assessment or after a move. Profile what you actually teach.

Can I teach Karnataka board English without Kannada?

Yes, the English paper is taught in English. What matters is knowing the prescribed state textbooks and the board's model papers, and asking whether English is the student's first or second language.

Which Bengaluru areas send the most English tuition requests?

We do not publish counts. Requests come from every zone; the eastern and south-eastern tech belts often bring relocation cases, and older neighbourhoods bring state-board and ICSE work. The live list on this page shows current requests, if any.

Does English tuition work online?

Very well for essay feedback, literature discussion and comprehension practice. Young readers and children new to English-medium school often benefit from at least one home session a week.

What should I bring to an ISC English demo?

A composition prompt, the prescribed texts the student is studying and a clear marking approach. ISC has two three-hour papers of 80 marks with project work in each, so long, well-organised answers are the focus.

Can I combine English with another subject for the same Bengaluru family?

Yes, if you teach both well. Some families of younger children want English and maths from one tutor, and some IB families pair English with a humanities subject. List each subject with its boards and classes so the match is accurate, and agree the weekly split with the parent after the demo.
