Online tutor jobs: teaching school students across India with NXTutors

Online tutoring through NXTutors lets you teach families anywhere in India from wherever you live. A parent sends a request with the class, board and subject that suit, says they want online lessons, and we shortlist two or three tutors whose subject, board and class fit. For online work, your city does not decide whether you are matched; your subjects, boards and classes do. This page explains which students online suits, what families expect in an online lesson, how the tool for each class is agreed, how requests are routed, and how to set up your profile.

Already teaching with us? Log in to update your areas and hours.

You choose online only or home and online together, your hours and your fee for each class, and families see the fee before the demo. We do not promise a number of students; what reaches you depends on what you teach, when you are free and which families ask.

How you get tuition work on NXTutors

Six steps from applying to your first class. Swipe to see each step.

  1. Sign up with a one-time code

Sign up from anywhere in India with a one-time code, set your mode to online, and list the courses you teach and the hours you keep free each week.

  2. Upload your ID; our team reviews it

Upload a government photo ID from the dashboard. Our team reviews it before your profile is marked Verified; one ID number can be linked to one tutor account only.

  3. Your profile carries the Verified badge

With the Verified badge in place, your profile shows families in any city your courses, boards, setup, such as a writing tablet or document camera, and your fee.

  4. A family nearby sends a request

A family asks for online lessons in your subject. Online requests are matched on subject, class and board, so you can be shortlisted wherever you live.

  5. Free demo; the family sees your fee first

Agree the call and whiteboard tool with the parent before the demo, which is free for them. Send the link to the parent's number and teach a real lesson.

  6. Teach at home, online or both

Teach online on the days agreed, keep the camera on and the parent able to check in, and add home lessons later if you also want local students.

Who chooses online tuition, and when it does not fit

Families choose online when they need a specialist who does not live nearby, such as IB Maths Analysis and Approaches HL, IGCSE Physics Extended, ISC maths or JEE Advanced-level physics; when they live far from tutors; when a senior student needs a short doubt session late in the evening around coaching; or when travel, school buses and activities leave no room for a fixed home slot. Online also keeps lessons going while a family travels.

Be honest with families when online is the wrong choice: children in Classes 1 to 5, who need someone beside them to watch pencil grip and finger-pointing; children who drift between tabs; maths and science without a way for you to see written working; a student who has just changed board, where gaps are quicker to diagnose in person; and an unreliable connection with no backup. Saying so builds trust and saves months.

How online lessons are set up: you and the family agree the tools

NXTutors matches you with families; it does not run its own video classroom. Before the demo, you and the parent agree the video-call tool, how written work will be shown and how links will be shared. Send class links and messages to a parent's number or a group the parent has added, so they can see every exchange. Keep cameras on for both of you and do not move to private chats or new apps.

Ask for a laptop or tablet rather than a phone, a writing tablet with a stylus or a phone on a stand pointed at the notebook as a second camera, headphones with a microphone, a desk in a common room with the door open, and a backup such as a phone hotspot. A shared digital whiteboard lets you both write on the same page and save it as notes. Test all of this in the demo; if you cannot see the student's working clearly, fix it before the first paid lesson.

The online demo and what a good online lesson looks like

The demo is your first lesson with a family and is free for them. Parents are advised to judge an online demo the same way as a home one, with the screen in the middle. Open with a quick check on homework and recent school tests, explain briefly, then have the student solve on paper or the whiteboard while you watch, and correct the working live rather than just saying the answer is wrong.

End with a short written summary and homework sent to the parent or student. A tutor who talks over slides for an hour while the student listens is running a lecture, not tuition, and parents are told to look for exactly that. If the family decides on a different tutor, switching is free for them; it is part of matching, not a mark against you.

How online requests are matched

Online requests are matched on subject, board and class, never on where you live. For home requests, the shortlist starts with the nearest tutors and widens to the zone and the city; online tutors come next when no suitable tutor is close, and families who ask for online lessons are matched with online tutors. Each request goes to two or three tutors, not to everyone.

Your fee per class is on your profile, and parents see it before the demo. Online removes your travel, which can affect what you charge, but class, board, subject, experience and frequency usually matter more than format. Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more.

Hybrid teaching with the same families

If you live within reach of some families, choose both on your profile. Hybrid patterns that work include one home class for new topics and handwritten practice with one or two online sessions for doubts and tests; home during term with short online sessions before each exam paper; and online on weekdays with a home class at the weekend for senior students who attend coaching.

Continuity matters more than format, so families value one tutor across both. Make your profile show the areas you can visit as well as your online hours, and agree with each family in advance which sessions happen where.

Online tutoring also means your week can mix families from several cities. Keep a simple record for each student of the board, the chapters covered, test marks and the next topic, and share a short progress note with the parent every few weeks. Families who cannot see you arrive at the door rely on that note to know the lessons are working, and it makes any change of plan easier to discuss.

Your online profile, the ID check and plans

Set your mode to online or both, and list the hours you keep free on weekdays and at weekends. Be specific about courses, for example IB Physics HL, IGCSE Chemistry Extended, ISC English, CBSE Class 12 maths or NEET biology, and describe your setup: writing tablet, whiteboard, document camera. A clear photo and a short note on how you run an online lesson help parents picture it.

Tutors who join go through an ID check before their profile is marked Verified: a one-time code confirms phone or email, and our team reviews an uploaded government photo ID. Tutors who pass carry a Verified badge. It confirms identity only and is not a police or background check; How we verify tutors describes it. Joining is free, and the Free plan includes 160 lead credits a month; paid plans on /pricing are optional extras, never a fee to apply for a tuition.

Women tutors welcome

For women tutors: you set the terms

Teaching from home on your own schedule is fully possible on NXTutors: online is a complete choice, not a fallback. A woman tutor can set her profile to online only, keep hours that fit around her day and be matched with families in any city whose subject and board fit. If you later want home lessons, you choose the localities. Every tutor who joins goes through an ID check before the profile is marked Verified, and each demo is held with a parent able to watch.

  • Online only is a complete setting; no home visits are needed.
  • Choose your hours, including early mornings or late evenings.
  • Families anywhere in India can be matched with you.
  • Send the class link to the parent's number or a family group, never the child's private chat.
  • Keep the camera on and teach in a way the parent can observe.
  • Do not record classes without the parent's written consent.
  • Stop any arrangement that worries you and tell us through WhatsApp or the contact page.

Read the safeguarding policy and how the ID check works.

Why tutors choose NXTutors

What is different from a directory listing or a tuition bureau.

  • You set your fee

Your fee per class is on your profile, and families see it before the demo, so there is no haggling after a good class.

  • Matched, nearest first

Each request goes to two or three tutors who fit it, nearest first, not to a long list of people chasing the same family.

  • Demo first

The first class is a free demo. Families decide after meeting you, not from a phone call or a price list.

  • No made-up leads

We never show invented requests. The only request details on these pages are real and anonymised, and only once there are three or more.

  • An ID check for everyone

Every tutor who joins goes through the same ID check. Real tutors who pass carry the Verified badge; sample profiles are always labelled.

  • AI-first, with real teachers

Parents can ask NXT AI about your profile and compare tutors side by side. The teaching is always yours.

Tutor plans and what each includes

Tutor plans are listed on our pricing page with what each one includes. Read them before you apply; we do not quote prices on this page. Tutors are independent: you set your own fee, and families pay you for the classes they take.

Questions from tutors

Can I take online tutor jobs from a small town?

Yes. Online requests are matched on subject, board and class, not your location, so a tutor in a small town can teach families in any city. You need a reliable connection, a backup, and a way for the student's written work to be seen.

Does NXTutors provide a video classroom?

No. NXTutors matches tutors and families; it does not host lessons. You and the family agree the video-call and whiteboard tools before the demo, and class links go to a number or group the parent can see. That keeps the arrangement clear for both sides and lets you use the tools you already teach well with, as long as the family is comfortable with them.

Which subjects suit online teaching?

Senior and specialist subjects suit it well: IB, IGCSE, ISC, JEE and NEET work, economics with diagrams on a whiteboard, and English writing marked on shared documents. Young children in Classes 1 to 5 usually learn better at home, so be honest with those families.

Who sets the fee for online classes?

You do. Put your fee per class on your profile; parents see it before the free demo. Online saves you travel, which you may reflect in your fee, but the decision is yours. Keep your profile fee up to date, because it is what families compare when they choose between the two or three shortlisted tutors.

Do online tutors also go through the ID check?

Yes. Every tutor who joins confirms phone or email with a one-time code and uploads a government photo ID that our team reviews before the profile is marked Verified. Passing adds a Verified badge to your profile; it confirms identity and is not a police or background check. See How we verify tutors for the full steps, including what the badge does not cover.

Where are the tutor plans listed?

On /pricing. Joining NXTutors and setting up your profile are free. The Free plan includes 160 lead credits a month, which you spend to unlock the family requests you want to answer. Paid plans (/pricing) are optional and add visibility, AI tools and more credits; none is a fee to apply for a tuition. The plan is separate from your fee to families, which you set yourself and which parents see before the demo.
