Physics tutor jobs: teach physics at home or online with NXTutors
Ask a parent why their child needs physics help and the answer is usually one word: numericals. A Class 9 student who can recite Newton's laws but freezes at a two-step problem, a Class 12 student who has memorised derivations and cannot adapt them, an IGCSE candidate who drops marks on the practical paper. Families want someone who can see where the reasoning breaks and repair it. This page is for physics teachers, graduates and engineers weighing up tutoring with us.

Joining NXTutors is free, and so is onboarding. You choose the classes and boards you take, whether you teach at home, online or both, and the fee for each class. We cannot say how many families will ask for physics near you; that depends on the requests that come in, and nothing on this page promises students or income.

Teach at home, online or both
The demo is free for the family. Teach a real numerical from this week's chapter and let the student do the working.
What do families ask a physics tutor for?
Physics requests tend to fall into three bands. In middle school, physics sits inside general science. From Class 9 it starts to stand on its own even when the timetable still says science: motion graphs, force and momentum, work and energy, sound, then electricity and light in Class 10. Here the worry is nearly always numericals, where a student knows the formula sheet yet cannot decide which relation fits the question.
Classes 11 and 12 are where families most want a specialist. Vectors, projectile and circular motion, rotation, thermodynamics, oscillations and waves give way to electrostatics, current electricity, magnetism, electromagnetic induction, optics and modern physics. Students need derivations they can reproduce and bend to a new situation, units and dimensions checked at every line, and graphs read properly.
A smaller, steady stream comes from international programmes: Cambridge IGCSE physics on the Core or Extended tier, Pearson Edexcel International GCSE physics, and IB Diploma physics at Standard or Higher Level. These parents ask for past-paper practice and command-word discipline as much as for new content.
How each board shapes a physics lesson
On CBSE the NCERT textbook is the base, and senior physics adds a practical examination: the student submits a record of experiments and activities, presents an investigatory project and faces a viva alongside the theory paper. Under CISCE, ICSE physics in Classes 9 and 10 rewards crisp definitions and labelled diagrams, and ISC physics includes practical work and a project, so ask early whether the student needs help for the practical day.
Cambridge IGCSE Physics has Core content that every candidate learns and Extended content, which is Core plus Supplement, for candidates aiming at the higher grades. Every candidate also sits one practical paper, either a practical test or a written alternative to practical, so find out which route the school has chosen before you plan. In the IB Diploma, physics is taken at SL or HL and each student carries out an individual scientific investigation for internal assessment. You may teach experimental design, uncertainties and graph analysis, but the investigation itself has to remain the student's own work.
Which background helps you win physics requests?
NXTutors does not set a minimum degree for teaching physics. The tutor terms ask that you are 18 or over and that everything on your profile is true. What persuades a family is evidence they can test in a demo: a degree in physics or engineering, years with a particular board, confidence with calculus-based problems for senior students, and real familiarity with that board's past papers and marking. If you have prepared students for the IGCSE alternative-to-practical paper or for ISC practicals, write that down plainly.
Name the exact work rather than writing 'all physics': CBSE Class 11 and 12 with practical-record support, ICSE Class 10, IGCSE Extended, IB Physics HL. Leave out results or ranks you cannot prove.
From a family's request to your first physics class
A request becomes a lead for you only when it fits what you teach: the subject and class band on your profile, the board where it matters (IB, IGCSE and ISC always, Indian boards from Class 9), home or online, and for home lessons a sector inside your travel areas or zone. Before you spend anything you see a masked card with the class, a summary such as 'Class 11, rotational motion numericals', the area, timing, a budget band and a few reasons it suits you. The family's name and number are never on that card.
Unlocking costs credits. At present a lead is priced between 80 and 240 credits, depending on how complete the request is and how soon the family needs someone, and the card shows the price before you unlock. No more than five tutors can unlock one lead, and an open lead expires after about seven days. Once you unlock, you send a single proposal: a short message, your fee per hour and up to three demo slots. Two-way chat opens when the family replies or shortlists you; a paid plan on its own never opens it.
Setting a physics fee you can stand behind
You set your own fee for each class, and the family sees it before the free demo. Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. A physics fee usually moves with the class, the board, practical preparation and travel time.
Under the platform's current rules (see /tutor-terms), for home tuition you receive 50% of the first month's fee and the full fee from the second month onwards; for online tuition you receive 70% every month. These are rules, not forecasts. Charge only the fee you showed before the demo, never ask for money for the demo itself, and agree any change in advance, for future classes only.
Physics at home or online: making either work
At home you can watch a student sketch a free-body diagram and stop the slip before it reaches the answer; keep any demonstration safe, with nothing involving mains electricity or heating. Online physics suits motivated senior students and international-board candidates, provided you can see the working through a stylus on a shared whiteboard or a phone camera above the notebook.
With a child, speak to the parent rather than only the student, teach where an adult is at home or where the online class can be observed, and never record or photograph without the parent's consent. The full rules are on /safeguarding-policy.
How do you join as a physics tutor?
Joining is free. Apply on WhatsApp through the Apply form on /become-a-tutor, which writes the message for you; the team replies and sets up your account. At first login you confirm with a one-time code, then complete your profile: physics classes, boards, fee per class, home, online or both, and travel areas. Then upload your ID under Documents. Tutors who join go through an ID check: you confirm your phone or email with a one-time code and upload a government photo ID (Aadhaar, voter ID, passport or driving licence, front and back), which our team reviews. The Verified badge appears only after our team has reviewed the ID. It is not a police or background check; the steps are on /how-we-verify-tutors.
The free plan includes 160 lead credits a month; extra credits cost ₹199 for 500 or ₹499 for 1,500 and never expire. Pro, Premium and Featured are optional paid plans (see /pricing) that never change how tutors are ranked for a request. To see demand, browse /tuition-jobs or a city page such as /tuition-jobs/gurugram, /tuition-jobs/delhi, /tuition-jobs/bengaluru, /tuition-jobs/pune or /tuition-jobs/kota. Women tutors welcome
For women tutors: you set the terms
Women tutors are welcome on NXTutors, for home classes, online classes or both. You decide how, where and when you teach. These are the controls the product gives you, and the habits our safeguarding policy asks of tutors and families.
- Choose home, online or hybrid teaching on your profile, and change it whenever you like.
- List the areas you travel to: home requests come only from those areas.
- Set your own days and timings; requests are matched to the hours you give.
- Every match starts with a demo class, and our safeguarding policy asks the parent to be at home for it.
- Teach where a parent or another adult is at home; in gated societies the family adds you to the gate or visitor register.
- Keep messages with the parent or a family group, never a child's private chat.
- Every tutor who joins goes through the same ID check. It confirms identity; it is not a police check.
- Stop any time. If anything worries you, stop the classes and tell us on WhatsApp or through the contact page.
Read the safeguarding policy and how the ID check works.
Why tutors choose NXTutors
What is different from a directory listing or a tuition bureau.
-
You set your fee
Your fee per class is on your profile, and families see it before the demo, so there is no haggling after a good class.
-
Matched, nearest first
Each request goes to two or three tutors who fit it, nearest first, not to a long list of people chasing the same family.
-
Demo first
The first class is a free demo. Families decide after meeting you, not from a phone call or a price list.
-
No made-up leads
We never show invented requests. The only request details on these pages are real and anonymised, and only once there are three or more.
-
An ID check for everyone
Every tutor who joins goes through the same ID check. Real tutors who pass carry the Verified badge; sample profiles are always labelled.
-
AI-first, with real teachers
Parents can ask NXT AI about your profile and compare tutors side by side. The teaching is always yours.
Tutor plans and what each includes
Tutor plans are listed on our pricing page with what each one includes. Read them before you apply; we do not quote prices on this page. Tutors are independent: you set your own fee, and families pay you for the classes they take.
Questions from tutors
Is it free to join NXTutors as a physics tutor?
Yes. Applying, onboarding and the free plan cost nothing, and the free plan gives you 160 lead credits every month. Paid plans are optional: they add visibility in places labelled Featured, AI tools and extra credits, and the details are on /pricing. No plan, free or paid, changes the order in which tutors are ranked for a family's request.
Do I need a physics degree to teach on NXTutors?
We do not set a minimum degree for physics tutoring. You must be 18 or over, and everything on your profile must be true. In practice, families look for a physics or engineering background, experience with their board and ease with past papers, and they judge most of that for themselves during the free demo class.
Can I offer help with CBSE or ISC practical records and vivas?
Yes, if you can do it properly, so add it to your profile and families who need it can find you. The aim is to help the student understand each experiment, its readings and its sources of error well enough to answer the viva in their own words. Writing the record for them is not the job.
How much of the family's fee do I receive?
Under the platform's current rules, set out in /tutor-terms, home tuition pays you 50% of the first month's fee and the full fee from the second month, while online tuition pays you 70% every month. What you take home overall depends on your fee, your hours and how many families choose you; we make no income promise.
What if a physics lead I unlocked was not genuine?
Credits come back in full, automatically, if the lead proves duplicate or fake, if the family withdraws it, or if they do not open your proposal within 72 hours. Raise any claim within seven days. Changing your own mind after unlocking does not qualify for a refund, so read the masked card carefully before you spend credits.
Can I teach IGCSE or IB physics online to students in another city?
Yes. Set your mode to online or both. For online requests the match rests on subject, class and board rather than where you live, which suits IGCSE Extended, Edexcel International GCSE and IB HL specialists. Agree the video and whiteboard set-up with the parent before the demo so the student's working is visible.
