CBSE tutor jobs: teaching the NCERT way, home or online

CBSE is the board a tutor is most likely to meet in almost any Indian city, and the one most families moving between cities choose because the syllabus travels with them. That spread is an opportunity: a tutor who genuinely knows the CBSE approach can teach students in their own locality and, online, students anywhere in the country who follow the same books.

This page is for tutors who teach, or want to teach, CBSE students from primary school to Class 12. It explains why NCERT is the centre of everything, how to use the board's own published material, what changes at Class 10 and Class 12, and how to show a CBSE family that you know their board rather than just the subject. Joining NXTutors is free. We cannot promise a number of CBSE requests, students or income.

How you get tuition work on NXTutors

Six steps from applying to your first class. Swipe to see each step.

  1. Sign up with a one-time code

Download the current CBSE curriculum, sample papers and marking schemes for the classes you teach.

  2. Upload your ID; our team reviews it

Apply on WhatsApp; joining is free. Confirm with a one-time code at first login.

  3. Your profile carries the Verified badge

List CBSE precisely by class and subject, add fee, mode and travel areas, and upload your ID.

  4. A family nearby sends a request

Unlock masked CBSE leads that match your classes, and propose a fee and demo slots.

  5. Free demo; the family sees your fee first

In the free demo, work one question the way the marking scheme rewards it, then mark the student's attempt.

  6. Teach at home, online or both

Finish every NCERT exercise before reference books, and plan Class 10 and 12 around the sample paper.

NCERT first, everything else second

In CBSE schools the NCERT textbooks are the spine of the syllabus. Board questions are framed on NCERT content, often on the exact examples, activities and in-text questions, and a student who has worked through every NCERT exercise is better prepared than one who has raced through a thick reference book while skipping the textbook. Many families hire a tutor precisely because the school moved too fast through NCERT.

Use reference books for extra practice once the NCERT exercise is secure, not instead of it. In science, the activities and diagrams in the textbook are examinable; in social science, the boxed sources and maps matter; in mathematics, the solved examples model the presentation that marks reward.

Use the board's own published material

CBSE publishes its curriculum, sample question papers and marking schemes on cbseacademic.nic.in. Download the current ones for every class and subject you teach before the session starts. The sample paper shows the present mix of question types and the weight of each section; the marking scheme shows exactly which steps and keywords earn marks, which is the most useful thing a tutor can teach in the final months.

Do not rely on memory of how papers looked a few years ago, and do not repeat rumours about changes. If a family asks about a new pattern or a date, point them to the board's own circulars and check them yourself before planning around them.

What changes at Class 10

Class 10 ends in the board's secondary examination, and internal assessment counts alongside the written paper in each subject. In mathematics, CBSE offers two levels, Standard and Basic, and the student's level affects which paper they sit; ask which one the school has registered the student for before you plan. Science covers physics, chemistry and biology chapters in one subject, so a science tutor at this stage must be comfortable with all three.

Families of Class 10 students want a syllabus plan, timed practice with the sample paper format, and help with answer presentation: steps shown, diagrams labelled, units written. A tutor who marks practice answers the way the marking scheme does gives them something the school often cannot.

Senior secondary on CBSE

In Classes 11 and 12 the student chooses subjects within a stream, and the NCERT books become far denser. Science subjects carry a practical examination with a record and a viva, and several subjects include project work. Commerce students take accountancy, business studies and economics, sometimes with mathematics or applied mathematics. Humanities combinations vary widely by school.

Many senior CBSE science students also prepare for entrance examinations whose syllabus is closely related to NCERT. That overlap makes a strong CBSE senior tutor useful to them, but board presentation still matters; keep both in view.

Primary and middle school on CBSE

Below Class 9, CBSE schools vary more in their books and assessments, since many use publishers' textbooks alongside NCERT. Ask each family which books the school uses and work from those. Requests at this stage are often for homework support, reading and writing, and mathematics foundations, and parents value regular routine and patience more than exam technique.

A CBSE primary or middle-school tutor who builds habits early, such as neat working, reading the question twice and checking answers, gives a student a head start on the far heavier load of Class 9.

Showing a CBSE family you know the board

Requests reach you as masked leads with the class, board, subject, a one-line need, the area, the timing and a budget band. The first class with a family you are matched with is a free demo. Bring the NCERT chapter the student is on and the relevant part of the current marking scheme. Work one question the way the scheme rewards it, then let the student try a similar one and mark it in front of the parent.

Write the board into your profile precisely: 'CBSE Class 9–10 mathematics, Standard and Basic' or 'CBSE Class 11–12 chemistry with practical record support'. You set your own fee per class, the family sees it before the demo, and the fee section further down explains how you get paid.

Common gaps a CBSE tutor fixes

Across subjects, the same few problems recur. Students read the NCERT chapter once, skip the in-text questions and then meet them in the paper. They learn a mathematics method without the reason behind it and freeze when a question is phrased differently. In science they write correct ideas without the keyword the marking scheme looks for. In social science they write long answers that never quite address the question asked.

Each of these is fixable in a few weeks of steady work: in-text questions done in every lesson, one 'why' question per method, answers checked against the marking scheme's keywords, and a habit of underlining the command word before writing. Tell the parent which of these you are working on, so improvement in the next test makes sense to them.

Joining as a CBSE tutor

Joining is free. Apply on WhatsApp through the form on /become-a-tutor; the team replies and sets up your account. At first login you confirm with a one-time code, then add subjects, class bands, CBSE and any other boards, fee, home or online and travel areas. Upload a government photo ID under Documents; tutors who join go through an ID check, and the Verified badge appears only after our team has reviewed it. It is not a police check.

Women tutors welcome

For women tutors: you set the terms

Women tutors are welcome on NXTutors, for home classes, online classes or both. You decide how, where and when you teach. These are the controls the product gives you, and the habits our safeguarding policy asks of tutors and families.

  • Choose home, online or hybrid teaching on your profile, and change it whenever you like.
  • List the areas you travel to: home requests come only from those areas.
  • Set your own days and timings; requests are matched to the hours you give.
  • Every match starts with a demo class, and our safeguarding policy asks the parent to be at home for it.
  • Teach where a parent or another adult is at home; in gated societies the family adds you to the gate or visitor register.
  • Keep messages with the parent or a family group, never a child's private chat.
  • Every tutor who joins goes through the same ID check. It confirms identity; it is not a police check.
  • Stop any time. If anything worries you, stop the classes and tell us on WhatsApp or through the contact page.

Read the safeguarding policy and how the ID check works.

Why tutors choose NXTutors

What is different from a directory listing or a tuition bureau.

  • You set your fee

Your fee per class is on your profile, and families see it before the demo, so there is no haggling after a good class.

  • Matched, nearest first

Each request goes to two or three tutors who fit it, nearest first, not to a long list of people chasing the same family.

  • Demo first

The first class is a free demo. Families decide after meeting you, not from a phone call or a price list.

  • No made-up leads

We never show invented requests. The only request details on these pages are real and anonymised, and only once there are three or more.

  • An ID check for everyone

Every tutor who joins goes through the same ID check. Real tutors who pass carry the Verified badge; sample profiles are always labelled.

  • AI-first, with real teachers

Parents can ask NXT AI about your profile and compare tutors side by side. The teaching is always yours.

Tutor plans and what each includes

Tutor plans are listed on our pricing page with what each one includes. Read them before you apply; we do not quote prices on this page. Tutors are independent: you set your own fee, and families pay you for the classes they take.

Questions from tutors

Do CBSE families expect tutors to teach from NCERT?

Yes, especially from Class 9 onwards. Board questions are built on NCERT content, so finish each NCERT exercise properly before using reference books for extra practice.

Where do I get CBSE sample papers and marking schemes?

From the board's academic website, cbseacademic.nic.in, which publishes the curriculum, sample question papers and marking schemes. Use the current year's versions rather than older copies.

What is the difference between Standard and Basic mathematics in Class 10?

They are two levels of the CBSE Class 10 mathematics paper. Ask which level the school has registered the student for, and plan practice from that level's sample paper.

Can I teach CBSE students online in other cities?

Yes. The syllabus is the same nationwide, and online requests are matched on subject, class and board rather than distance. Set your mode to online or both.

Do I need to have taught in a CBSE school?

No. NXTutors sets no minimum qualification. What matters is that you know the NCERT books and the board's papers well, and that your profile is true. Families judge most of this in the free demo.

Is joining NXTutors free for CBSE tutors?

Yes. Joining, onboarding and the Free plan cost nothing, and the Free plan includes monthly lead credits. Paid plans are optional and never needed to apply for a tuition.
