ICSE and ISC tutor jobs: teaching CISCE students
Ask an ICSE parent what makes the board demanding and you will hear the same few things: so many subjects, so much English, and answers that must be precise to the word. The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) conducts the ICSE examination at the end of Class 10 and the ISC examination at the end of Class 12, and families in CISCE schools often look for tutors who understand that style rather than tutors who teach every board the same way.

This page is for tutors who teach, or want to teach, ICSE and ISC students. It covers what sets the board apart, the subjects families most often ask about, internal assessment and project work, and how to show an ICSE family in a single demo that you know their board. Joining NXTutors is free. We cannot promise how many CISCE requests you will receive, students or income.

What makes ICSE different to teach
English carries unusual weight. ICSE students sit English language and English literature as separate papers, and the literature paper asks for close reading of prescribed texts, while every other subject rewards clear written expression. A student who struggles with English feels it across the timetable, which is why English is among the most common ICSE tuition requests.
Precision matters in every subject. ICSE answers reward exact definitions, correctly labelled diagrams and full working; vague answers lose marks even when the idea is right. Teaching ICSE well means insisting on the textbook's terms and checking every label.
The subjects families ask about
The ICSE timetable spreads wide. Alongside English and a second language, students take history and civics with geography, mathematics and science, and choose further subjects such as computer applications, economics or commercial studies. In ICSE science, physics, chemistry and biology are examined as separate papers, so families often ask for a tutor in one of them rather than in science as a whole.
Requests most often concern mathematics, physics, chemistry, English and history-civics-geography, the last because of the volume of material and map work. Computer applications draws requests from families whose child is new to programming. List the specific ICSE subjects you teach; a vague 'all ICSE subjects' is rarely believed.
Internal assessment and project work
CISCE subjects carry internal assessment alongside the written examination, through projects, practical work and assignments set by the school. Students often need help planning a project, gathering material and presenting it, and science students need to understand their practical work well.
Help with structure, method and understanding, never by doing the work. A project the student cannot explain is a risk to them, and the school knows its students' writing. Ask the family what the school has set and by when, and fit the guidance into your sessions before deadlines arrive rather than the night before.
ISC: the senior years
At ISC level, Classes 11 and 12, subjects deepen sharply and several include practical and project components. Physics, chemistry, mathematics and biology are common requests, as are accountancy, commerce, economics and English for commerce and humanities students. ISC students may also be preparing for entrance examinations, so ask each family which matters more this year.
Some students change board between Class 10 and Class 11, moving from ICSE to a CBSE school or the reverse. They often need a bridging tutor for the first months, someone who can explain how the new board's books, question style and marking differ from what they knew.
Using CISCE's own material
CISCE publishes regulations, syllabuses and specimen question papers on cisce.org. Read the current syllabus for every subject and class you teach, and use the specimen papers to understand present question types. Do not rely on old guidebooks for the pattern, and do not pass on rumours about changes; point families to the council's own notices.
Within a school, ask for the textbook and any school question papers. ICSE schools choose their own textbooks from various publishers, so two ICSE students in the same class may use different books for the same syllabus.
Winning an ICSE family in the demo
Requests reach you as masked leads with the class, board, subject, a short need, the area, the timing and a budget band, never the family's name or number. The first class with a family you are matched with is a free demo. Ask beforehand for a recently marked paper. In the demo, rewrite one of the student's answers with them, showing where an exact definition, a labelled diagram or a missing step would have earned the marks.
That single exercise tells an ICSE parent more than any claim. On your profile, write the board precisely: 'ICSE Class 9–10 physics and chemistry' or 'ISC Class 11–12 English'. You set your own fee and the family sees it before the demo; the fee section below covers how you get paid.
Habits that lift ICSE marks
A few routines make a visible difference within a term. Keep a definitions notebook for each science and mathematics topic, written in the textbook's exact words and tested weekly. Have the student redraw every important diagram from memory, with every label, until it is automatic. In history and civics, practise short answers that state the point, explain it and give one fact, rather than long paragraphs that wander.
In English, read the prescribed literature closely with the student, asking what a line shows about a character or theme, and teach them to support each point with a reference to the text. In the language paper, practise composition and letter formats under time, and correct grammar patiently rather than all at once. ICSE parents notice these habits in the school notebook quickly, often before the next test result arrives.

Women tutors welcome
For women tutors: you set the terms
Women tutors are welcome on NXTutors, for home classes, online classes or both. You decide how, where and when you teach. These are the controls the product gives you, and the habits our safeguarding policy asks of tutors and families.
- Choose home, online or hybrid teaching on your profile, and change it whenever you like.
- List the areas you travel to: home requests come only from those areas.
- Set your own days and timings; requests are matched to the hours you give.
- Every match starts with a demo class, and our safeguarding policy asks the parent to be at home for it.
- Teach where a parent or another adult is at home; in gated societies the family adds you to the gate or visitor register.
- Keep messages with the parent or a family group, never a child's private chat.
- Every tutor who joins goes through the same ID check. It confirms identity; it is not a police check.
- Stop any time. If anything worries you, stop the classes and tell us on WhatsApp or through the contact page.
Read the safeguarding policy and how the ID check works.
Why tutors choose NXTutors
What is different from a directory listing or a tuition bureau.
-
You set your fee
Your fee per class is on your profile, and families see it before the demo, so there is no haggling after a good class.
-
Matched, nearest first
Each request goes to two or three tutors who fit it, nearest first, not to a long list of people chasing the same family.
-
Demo first
The first class is a free demo. Families decide after meeting you, not from a phone call or a price list.
-
No made-up leads
We never show invented requests. The only request details on these pages are real and anonymised, and only once there are three or more.
-
An ID check for everyone
Every tutor who joins goes through the same ID check. Real tutors who pass carry the Verified badge; sample profiles are always labelled.
-
AI-first, with real teachers
Parents can ask NXT AI about your profile and compare tutors side by side. The teaching is always yours.
Tutor plans and what each includes
Tutor plans are listed on our pricing page with what each one includes. Read them before you apply; we do not quote prices on this page. Tutors are independent: you set your own fee, and families pay you for the classes they take.
Questions from tutors
What is the difference between ICSE and ISC?
Both are conducted by CISCE. ICSE is the examination at the end of Class 10; ISC is the examination at the end of Class 12. List on your profile which one, or both, you teach.
Why do so many ICSE families ask for English tuition?
Because English language and literature are separate papers and written expression affects every other subject. A tutor who can improve a student's writing helps across the whole timetable.
Can I help with ICSE projects and internal assessment?
You can help the student plan, research and understand their project or practical work. The work itself must be the student's own, and they should be able to explain every part of it.
Where can I find ICSE and ISC specimen papers?
On the council's own site, cisce.org, which publishes syllabuses, regulations and specimen question papers. Use the current versions rather than older guidebooks.
Do students switching from ICSE to CBSE need a tutor?
Often, for the first months of Class 11. A bridging tutor explains how the new board's books, questions and marking differ. Mention this on your profile if you can offer it.
Does joining NXTutors cost anything for an ICSE tutor?
No. Joining, onboarding and the Free plan are free, and the Free plan includes monthly lead credits. Paid plans are optional and never needed to apply for a tuition.
