Science tutor jobs: physics, chemistry and biology tuition with NXTutors

Science tutoring through NXTutors covers a wide span: integrated science for a Class 7 child, three separate papers for an ICSE Class 10 student, and Class 12 physics, chemistry or biology alongside NEET or JEE. Each piece of work starts when a parent sends a request with the class, board, the science that is giving trouble and their locality. We then shortlist two or three tutors whose profiles match. This page explains what parents expect from a science tutor at each stage and board, what the demo class is, how requests are routed, and how to describe yourself so that the right families reach you.

You decide which sciences and classes you teach, where you travel, whether you work online, and your fee for each class. Parents see that fee before the demo. We make no promise about the number of requests you will see; that depends on your subjects, your location and the requests that come in.

How you get tuition work on NXTutors

Six steps from applying to your first class. Swipe to see each step.

  1. Sign up with a one-time code

Confirm your phone or email with a one-time code and list the sciences you teach: integrated science for Classes 6 to 8, or physics, chemistry and biology separately, each with its boards.

  2. Upload your ID; our team reviews it

Upload a government photo ID from the dashboard. A team member reviews it against your details; the profile stays pending until then, and that ID cannot be reused for another account.

  3. Your profile carries the Verified badge

Once you pass, the Verified badge appears on your profile, with your science subjects, classes, boards such as CBSE, ICSE or IGCSE, your mode of teaching and your fee.

  4. A family nearby sends a request

A family asks for, perhaps, ICSE Class 10 chemistry. Two or three tutors whose subjects and board fit are shortlisted, starting with those who live nearest.

  5. Free demo; the family sees your fee first

Your fee is already visible to the parent, and the demo costs the family nothing. Teach the current chapter, using a diagram or numerical from the student's own book.

  6. Teach at home, online or both

Teach at home, online with a shared whiteboard, or both. Some senior students prefer doubt sessions online between home classes; agree any such pattern with the parent at the demo.

Science from Class 6 to Class 12: what each stage needs

Middle-school science, Classes 6 to 8, is broad and practical: food, materials, light, electricity and circuits, living things, force and pressure, and simple chemical change. Parents at this stage want a tutor who gets the child explaining why things happen in their own words, reading diagrams carefully and writing definitions precisely, rather than piling on extra content.

Class 9 is the jump. Science turns into three subjects in one course: motion, force, gravitation, work and energy, and sound in physics; matter, atoms and molecules in chemistry; the cell, tissues and precise terminology in biology. Students who coasted on memory find it no longer works. Class 10 adds the board paper, with chemical reactions, carbon compounds, life processes, heredity, light and electricity, and questions that are increasingly case-based.

In Classes 11 and 12 the sciences become separate, demanding subjects. CBSE physics, chemistry and biology each carry a 70-mark theory paper and 30 marks of practical assessment. ISC chemistry and biology in Class 12 have a 70-mark theory paper, a 15-mark practical paper, 10 marks of project work and 5 for the practical file. NEET rewards precise recall of NCERT; JEE rewards depth and multi-step reasoning.

How the boards differ for a science tutor

CBSE teaches science as one integrated subject from Class 6 to Class 10, using NCERT, and the Class 10 board paper is a single science paper of 80 marks with 20 marks of internal assessment. A CBSE tutor works through NCERT line by line, including in-text questions and activities, and uses NCERT Exemplar for harder practice. Under CISCE, many ICSE schools teach Physics, Chemistry and Biology separately well before Class 10, when each becomes its own paper; ICSE chemistry goes further into the mole concept and analytical chemistry, and answers need to be precise and well structured.

Cambridge IGCSE sciences are examined through structured papers where command words and practical skills matter, with a Core or Extended tier. IB MYP sciences are assessed against criteria that include inquiry and designing investigations, so tutoring leans toward scientific writing. In the IB Diploma, chemistry includes an internally assessed scientific investigation worth 20%: you can guide the method, but the investigation has to remain the student's own.

What happens in a science demo class

The demo is the first lesson with a family, and it costs them nothing. Teach the chapter the student is on in school, after asking a couple of quick questions on that chapter and the one before it. Parents are advised to check whether the child drew a diagram or attempted a numerical during the hour, whether you explained a hard idea in a second way, whether you know how your board's paper is set out, and whether you linked the science to the kitchen, the road or the body.

Finish with a plan: what the first month covers, how often you will test, and how the parent will hear about progress. Keep any home experiments to safe household materials such as turmeric indicators or a cell-and-bulb circuit; heat, flames, strong acids and mains electricity belong in the school lab. If the family chooses someone else after the demo, switching is free for them, and that is simply part of how matching works.

How science requests are routed to tutors

A parent's request lists the class, the board, which sciences need help, the locality, the days and times that suit, home or online, and a budget. Home requests go to the closest tutors first: those living in that area, then those who travel there, then the zone and the wider city, followed by online tutors. Two or three are shortlisted. One family may want a single tutor for all of CBSE Class 9 science, while an ICSE family may want a chemistry specialist only, so list exactly what you cover.

Your fee per class sits on your profile and is visible to the family before the demo. Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more.

A science profile that matches the right families

Say which sciences you teach and up to which class: all three sciences to Class 10, or Class 11 and 12 physics only, or NEET biology. Name the boards and programmes you have taught, such as CBSE, ICSE, ISC, IGCSE or IB, and mention practical-file and viva preparation if you offer it. Add the localities you can reach after school hours and the slots you keep free. Families searching for a combined maths and science tutor up to Class 8 can be matched to you only if your profile lists both.

Every tutor who joins completes an ID check: a one-time code confirms your phone or email, then you upload a government photo ID that our team reviews before your profile is marked Verified. Passing adds a Verified badge, which confirms identity and nothing more; it is not a police verification. The steps are explained on How we verify tutors. Joining is free, and the Free plan includes 160 lead credits a month; paid plans on /pricing are optional extras, never a fee to apply for a tuition.

Science lessons at home or online

Home suits younger students, children who lose focus on screens, and anyone practising diagrams and numericals by hand while you watch the pencil. Online suits older, self-motivated students and those who need a specialist such as ICSE chemistry or IGCSE physics who does not live nearby. A hybrid of one home session and one online doubt or test session works when you teach both.

There is no NXTutors classroom app. Before the first online lesson, you and the parent settle on a video-call tool, a digital whiteboard or document camera so diagrams and working stay visible, and a channel the parent can see for links and messages. Insist on formula, substitution with units and a boxed answer every time; that habit transfers to the screen as well as to paper.

Women tutors welcome

For women tutors: you set the terms

Some parents ask for a woman tutor for their child's science, and NXTutors treats that as a family preference, nothing more: physics, chemistry and biology are taught well by tutors of every background. Women science tutors on NXTutors decide whether they teach at home, online or both, which localities they visit and which hours they keep. Every tutor who joins goes through an ID check, the Verified badge appears only after our team has reviewed the ID, and every new family starts with a demo while a parent is present.

  • Choose home, online or hybrid; diagrams, simulations and worked numericals all travel well over video.
  • Name only the localities you will visit.
  • Keep the hours that suit you, including weekends only.
  • Meet each family at a demo where we ask a parent to be present.
  • For online classes, ask that the student sits in a shared room with the camera on.
  • Arrange fees and schedules with the parent, not the student.
  • If something feels wrong, stop and tell us; /safeguarding-policy sets out how we act.

Read the safeguarding policy and how the ID check works.

Why tutors choose NXTutors

What is different from a directory listing or a tuition bureau.

  • You set your fee

Your fee per class is on your profile, and families see it before the demo, so there is no haggling after a good class.

  • Matched, nearest first

Each request goes to two or three tutors who fit it, nearest first, not to a long list of people chasing the same family.

  • Demo first

The first class is a free demo. Families decide after meeting you, not from a phone call or a price list.

  • No made-up leads

We never show invented requests. The only request details on these pages are real and anonymised, and only once there are three or more.

  • An ID check for everyone

Every tutor who joins goes through the same ID check. Real tutors who pass carry the Verified badge; sample profiles are always labelled.

  • AI-first, with real teachers

Parents can ask NXT AI about your profile and compare tutors side by side. The teaching is always yours.

Tutor plans and what each includes

Tutor plans are listed on our pricing page with what each one includes. Read them before you apply; we do not quote prices on this page. Tutors are independent: you set your own fee, and families pay you for the classes they take.

Questions from tutors

Can I teach just one science, such as chemistry?

Yes. An ICSE or senior student may need one science only, and a CBSE student may have a single weak area such as physics numericals. List the exact subjects, classes and boards you teach, and you will be matched to requests that ask for those, not to every science request.

Do science tutors need to help with practical files?

Only if you offer it. Senior science on CBSE and ISC includes practical assessment and, for ISC, project work and a practical file. If you can prepare students for practicals and vivas, say so on your profile; if not, leave it off so families know what to expect.

Can I teach NEET or JEE science online to students in other cities?

Yes. Set your profile to online or both. Online requests are matched on subject, board and class or exam, never on where you live. Agree the video tool and a way to see written working with each family before the first lesson.

How are home science requests shared out?

Closest first: tutors living in the family's area, then those who list that area as somewhere they travel, then the zone and the city, then online tutors. Two or three tutors are shortlisted for each request, so it never goes to a long list.

Is the NXTutors ID check the same as police verification?

No. You confirm your phone or email with a one-time code and upload a government photo ID for our team to review before the profile is marked Verified. It confirms identity and gives a Verified badge; it is not a police or criminal background check. How we verify tutors has the detail.

Where can I see the cost of joining?

There is none: joining NXTutors and setting up your profile are free. The Free plan includes 160 lead credits a month, which you spend to unlock the family requests you want to answer. Paid plans (/pricing) are optional and add visibility, AI tools and more credits; none is a fee to apply for a tuition. That is separate from the fee you charge families, which you choose yourself and which parents see before the demo.
