Now taking on home, online and hybrid tutors · in Mangaluru
Monsoon weeks test a science tutor in Mangaluru more than any chapter does. For the riverside lanes of Jeppu and Bolar, our own zone notes suggest agreeing an online fallback with families for the heaviest monsoon days. A tutor who plans for that, with a diagram ready to share on screen and a worksheet the student can print or copy, keeps the science timetable moving when a visit is not sensible.

This page is for teachers of combined science, Classes 6 to 10, who are weighing up tuition work in Mangaluru. It covers what students on each board need, where in the syllabus marks slip away, how to plan home visits across the five zones, and what families look for in the free demo. Physics, chemistry and biology for PUC or ISC have separate pages. Joining is free, and your fee is your own.
SSLC science is the largest single brief. KSEAB conducts the SSLC at the end of Class 10, and students may study in Kannada or English medium. Science has a lot of vocabulary, so a tutor who can give the term in both languages, and then make the student answer in the medium of the exam, saves real marks. The chapters that tend to need the most practice are chemical reactions and equations, acids, bases and salts, metals and non-metals, life processes and the human body systems, light with ray diagrams, and electricity with circuit numericals. Take model papers and every notice from KSEAB's own website.
CBSE students in Mangaluru work from NCERT, and their board paper mixes short answers with competency-based questions such as case studies and assertion-reason items. The sample papers and marking schemes on cbseacademic.nic.in show how answers are credited, and a tutor who marks practice answers against them teaches the student what an examiner wants. ICSE students sit physics, chemistry and biology as separate papers in Classes 9 and 10, write long answers, label diagrams exactly and are examined on practical work, so families sometimes want one tutor for all three and sometimes a specialist for one.
Classes 6 to 8 bring a different request. Here a parent usually wants the subject to make sense: a child who copies definitions without understanding them, or who finds numericals frightening, needs concrete explanations and plenty of drawing. Getting units, measurement, simple circuits and the basics of cells right in these years makes SSLC science far less stressful later. A few IGCSE students take Co-ordinated or separate sciences, normally with an online tutor.
Kankanady and Jeppu is where the monsoon note matters most: Kankanady mixes flats and houses along Balmatta Road near Mangaluru Junction station at Padil, while Jeppu and Bolar are mostly family homes in small riverside lanes. Ask for a landmark and a map pin before the first visit and plan around Pumpwell on weekday evenings. Kadri and Bejai, covering Kadri, Bejai, Bendur and Nanthoor, is high-rise living with security desks; give the family your name in advance and carry photo ID.
In Hampankatta and City Centre, homes are mostly flats among offices and shops, so ask about parking a two-wheeler inside the compound and avoid the late-afternoon crowd in Kodialbail. Urwa to Kavoor runs up the Airport Road from Urwa and Derebail through Bondel to Kavoor, where Kavoor Lake or Urwa Market is the usual landmark and Kannada and Tulu are widely spoken in Derebail. Surathkal, Hosabettu and Kulai on National Highway 66 suit tutors who live on that side; from the centre, online lessons may serve those families better.
Pick one concept for the demo and make it tangible. Bend a pencil in a glass of water to show refraction, draw a circuit and trace the current with the student, or sketch the digestive system and have the student label it from memory. Then ask a board-style question on the same idea and mark it with the marking scheme in mind. Mangaluru parents notice when a child can explain something back clearly, and that is what earns the second lesson.
On your profile, write the scope precisely: 'Science, Classes 6–10, SSLC and CBSE, Kannada and English medium' or 'ICSE Chemistry and Biology, Classes 9–10'. Add the localities you can reach, the after-school hours you keep free, and whether you teach online. Your fee appears before the demo. Through the year, short chapter tests and a brief note to the parent after each one keep the family informed, which matters because families can change tutors freely.

Pro, Premium and Featured are optional platform subscriptions: more visibility, AI tools and more lead credits. They are never a fee to apply for a tuition. See tutor plans.
A family request that fits your subjects, classes, board, areas and hours reaches your dashboard. Opening the family's contact details uses lead credits, and the credit price is shown on the request before you open it. At most 5 tutors can open one request, and a request stays open for 7 days. Credit packs are there if you need more.
You set your own fee. When a family pays for classes through NXTutors, you receive 50% of the fee for home tuition in the first month and the full fee after that, and 70% of the fee for online tuition every month. Payments are held for 7 days, then paid out weekly. How you get paid.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more.
Yes. Add Kannada to your profile if you teach in it. Explain in whichever language helps, but have the student write answers in the exam medium using the textbook's terms.
Agree an online fallback with the family at the start, as the zone notes for Kankanady and Jeppu suggest. Keep a diagram set and worksheets ready to share so the lesson continues without a long ride on the wettest days.
Some do. ICSE sets physics, chemistry and biology as separate papers, so families may want one tutor for all three or a specialist for one. State exactly which papers you teach.
Chemical equations, acids and bases, life processes, ray diagrams and electricity numericals tend to need repeated practice. Check the current syllabus and model papers on KSEAB's official website before planning.
Ask the family to give your name and days to the security desk before the first visit, and carry photo ID. Most towers in the zone register every visitor.
Yes, if you enjoy explaining from basics. Families ask when a child is memorising without understanding, and strong foundations in these years make SSLC or CBSE Class 10 science much easier.
