Tutors who join go through an ID check. Tell us the class, board and your area: we share two or three matched tutors, each with their fee, and the first class is a free demo, at home or online.
Book a free demo classAcross NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

A Class 6 science lesson is mostly looking and describing. By Class 10 the same subject has turned into three: numericals in physics, balanced equations in chemistry, and pages of labelled drawings in biology. Mangaluru children reach that point through three kinds of textbook, the Karnataka state books that lead to the SSLC, NCERT in CBSE schools, and whatever titles an ICSE school has chosen. The tutor you need is someone who teaches from that exact book, can keep a fixed after-school slot in your part of the city, and starts training exam-style answers years before the board paper. Send NXTutors the class, board and locality; we reply with two or three science tutors and their fees, and the opening class with your pick is a free demo.
Aaditya Kashyap is the author behind the CBSE and ICSE science guidance here. Whichever board a family names, the answer changes three things at once: the textbook the tutor teaches from, the way the final marks are divided, and the shape of an answer that collects them.
| Board | Shape of the Class 10 exam | Opening question for the tutor |
|---|---|---|
| KSEAB (Karnataka state syllabus) | Science within the SSLC, on a scheme the board itself publishes | Have you taught from this year's state science book and the board's model papers? |
| CBSE | A single science paper for 80, and a further 20 from the school | Which of the five units would you give the most weeks to, and why? |
| ICSE (CISCE) | Physics, Chemistry and Biology examined as three papers | Which papers do you take, and which textbook titles do you know? |
Until Class 10, one tutor for all three strands usually works well, since they can see that a wrong electricity answer is really a fractions problem. The national science home tutor page sets out how we match across India.
The SSLC is conducted by the Karnataka School Examination and Assessment Board (KSEAB), which also runs the II PUC examination two years later. In 2026 the SSLC was held as Exam 1 and Exam 2. The board publishes its own syllabus and paper scheme and changes them from time to time, which is why this page sets out no SSLC science pattern; the version to plan from is the one on kseab.karnataka.gov.in.
That leaves three things a parent can check at the first meeting:

Two lessons a week suit most children from Class 8; one is often enough earlier. A pattern for any board:
| When | Lesson focus | Between lessons |
|---|---|---|
| First lesson | The chapter being taught at school this week, explained again from the textbook, with one drawing or equation done together | Re-draw the diagram from memory; write three short answers |
| Second lesson | Check the homework, then numericals or a mixed set of old-paper questions under a light time limit | Correct every wrong answer in a separate notebook |
| Once a month | A short test across all three strands, marked the way the board marks | Re-attempt the questions that lost marks |
The habits worth repeating every week, whatever the board, are small ones: arrows on every light ray and dotted lines for virtual rays; an ammeter drawn in series and a voltmeter across the component; spelled and labelled parts of the heart, nephron or digestive tract; state symbols on equations when asked; and a heredity cross written out in full rather than a bare ratio.
In Classes 6 and 7, CBSE uses NCERT's activity-led Curiosity books, and the tutor's work is mostly language: turning what a child saw in an activity into one precise sentence with the right scientific word. In Class 8 the strands separate and the first numericals arrive, so units after every number become non-negotiable.
Class 9 is the steepest climb, and in 2026-27 CBSE follows NCERT's new book, Exploration. The school year is still marked out of 80 with 20 internal, over four units:
| Marks | Unit | Prepares for |
|---|---|---|
| 27 | Matter: nature and behaviour | Reactions, acids and carbon compounds next year |
| 25 | World of living | Life processes and heredity |
| 23 | Motion, force, work and sound | Every physics numerical that follows |
| 5 | Earth as a system | Environment questions |
An older cousin's Class 9 notes follow the earlier book. More on each year is on the Class 6, Class 8 and Class 9 science tutor pages.
The board sets 80 marks. The other 20 belong to the school, at 5 apiece for the portfolio, periodic tests, practical-based subject enrichment and multiple assessment. Split by strand, biology counts for 30 of the board's 80, and physics and chemistry for 25 each.
| Unit | Marks | Inside it |
|---|---|---|
| World of Living | 25 | Heredity, reproduction, control and coordination, and life processes |
| Chemical Substances | 25 | Carbon compounds, metals and non-metals, acids, bases and salts, and chemical reactions |
| Effects of Current | 13 | Resistance, circuits and magnetic effects |
| Natural Phenomena | 12 | Reflection and refraction, the human eye and the colours of the sky |
| Our Environment | 5 | A short unit that repays one careful revision |
By the kind of thinking asked for, 50% of the paper is knowledge and understanding, 30% is applying it, and the last 20% is analysing and evaluating. Our CBSE Class 10 science notes go chapter by chapter, and the Class 10 science tutor page covers a full board year.
| Marks each | Questions | Type | Drill |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 20 | Multiple-choice and assertion–reason | Quick, exact recall |
| 2 | 6 | Short answer | Two distinct points, no padding |
| 3 | 7 | Short answer | Three points, or a small worked numerical |
| 4 | 3 | Built on a case, passage or data | Read the source twice before answering |
| 5 | 3 | Long answer | A diagram or equation plus clearly separated points |
For 2026-27 the board paper leaves three areas to the school's own assessment: evolution; the way elements are arranged in the periodic table; and the electric motor, the generator and electromagnetic induction. Teach them well anyway, since internal marks depend on them and Class 11 picks them up again. CBSE's curriculum also names 14 experiments that board questions may refer to, so the practical file belongs in revision.
Every student takes the compulsory main exam in Class 10. Those eligible may sit a second, optional exam to raise the score in up to three subjects, and science can be one of them. No 2027 dates have been announced; watch cbse.gov.in, and prepare for the main sitting as though there were no other. The board-year planner sets out the months.
CISCE examines ICSE Class 10 science as separate Physics, Chemistry and Biology papers, and internal assessment is attached to each. Because every ICSE school picks its own textbook titles within the syllabus, an ICSE science tutor has to work from the books in your child's bag and from the specimen papers on cisce.org, not from an NCERT-based plan. Definitions are marked word for word, and numericals need every step. Plenty of families want help in just one of the three, commonly from Class 9 onwards; mention ICSE in your first message, as such tutors are fewer.
Science for Classes 6 to 10 nearly always sits between the school bell and dinner, so what counts is a tutor whose trip to you is short and the same every week. Here is what to arrange in six localities near the centre; every locality is listed on our Mangaluru page.
Balmatta lies between Hampankatta, Kankanady and Kadri, with Balmatta Road as its main road and a settled residential side behind the shops. A tutor coming by city bus can step off on Balmatta Road. Falnir, beside the Highland area, mixes apartment buildings with clinics and offices; visitors sign in at the gate, and a two-wheeler parks more easily inside the compound. Central roads fill up when schools close.
Bendur, also written Bendoor, centres on the Bendoorwell junction, a landmark every tutor knows; its towers register visitors at a security desk. Kadri spreads around Kadri Hill and Kadri Park, and many families live in high-rise buildings, so share the tower and flat number before the demo. Traffic towards Pumpwell and Nanthoor builds on weekday evenings.
Hampankatta, laid out around the Clock Tower circle, is where trains at Mangaluru Central and most city bus routes meet, so tutors from almost anywhere can reach it. Roads near the Clock Tower are busiest in working hours. Kodialbail, just to the north, is an educational and commercial quarter whose streets crowd in the late afternoon; a start a little later in the evening tends to run more smoothly.
The Mangaluru home tuition guide and the Hampankatta and City Centre zone page give more landmarks.
For Classes 6 to 8, a tutor at the table is hard to beat, because a drawing or a sum can be corrected while it is being made. From Class 9, online lessons handle numericals and revision well, as long as photos of the notebook reach the tutor first. In the heaviest monsoon weeks, when some roads slow down, an online lesson with the same tutor stops the routine from breaking. The home tutor or online tutor article compares both, and the demo class checklist for parents helps you judge the first lesson.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Each tutor names their own fee. The class, your locality and how often you meet all shape a quote. The shortlist shows every fee before the demo, and our home tuition fees in Mangaluru article covers the questions to ask.
Send the class and board, the strand your child struggles with, your locality with a landmark such as the Clock Tower, Kadri Park or Bendoorwell, and the weekday afternoons that are free. A shortlist of two or three science tutors comes back, fees included, and you choose whom to meet for a free demo. If the first does not suit, the next demo is with someone else on the list, and a change of tutor later costs nothing. Tutors who join go through an ID check; the Verified badge appears only after our team has reviewed the ID, as how we check tutors explains. When no one suitable can get to you at your hour, we propose an online or part-online plan. Our office is in Sector 66, Gurugram, and online lessons run across India. Older students can turn to the physics, chemistry and biology pages for Mangaluru.

Yes. We look for tutors who teach from this year's state textbook and practise from the board's own model and past papers. KSEAB conducts the SSLC and revises its scheme, so the current science pattern should always be taken from kseab.karnataka.gov.in rather than older guidebooks or forwarded notes.
Usually, yes. One tutor sees the whole subject and can tell whether a physics mistake comes from arithmetic or from the idea itself. ICSE is the main exception, because Physics, Chemistry and Biology are separate papers, and some families only need help with one of them from Class 9.
Chemical Substances and World of Living carry 25 marks each out of the board's 80. Effects of Current follows with 13, Natural Phenomena with 12 and Our Environment with 5. By branch, biology is worth 30 marks, while chemistry and physics are worth 25 each in the board paper.
CBSE's 2026-27 curriculum follows NCERT's new Class 9 book, Exploration. Matter carries 27 marks, World of living 25, Motion, force, work and sound 23, and Earth as a system 5, with 20 more for internal assessment. Older notes follow the previous book, so plan from the new chapters.
Most families choose the gap between school and dinner. Roads around the Clock Tower are busiest during working hours, and streets near Kodialbail crowd in the late afternoon, so a slightly later evening slot or a tutor living close by keeps the weekly lesson on time.
Yes. On the heaviest rain days, moving that week's lesson online with the same tutor keeps the routine going. Online suits most students from about Class 9 onwards, once notebook pages can reach the tutor before class; younger children usually gain more from a tutor sitting beside them.
