What home tuition costs in Mangaluru

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.

Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

ICSE and ISC home tutors in Mangaluru: a wide syllabus, long answers and work that runs all year

The CISCE route asks more of a student's stamina than most parents expect. Class 10 brings a long list of separate papers, English carries prescribed literature, and science is examined as three subjects rather than one. Two years later the ISC narrows the subject list but deepens every subject, adds compulsory practicals and projects, and applies firm rules about subject choices. In Mangaluru, where the state board sits alongside CBSE and CISCE, it is easy to find a tutor who knows the chapters and much harder to find one who writes and marks the CISCE way. This page explains how the council organises the two stages, where marks usually slip, how tutors travel to six localities, and how to test a tutor in the free demo. Abhinandan Tiwary's role on our team covers ICSE maths, Aaditya Kashyap's the ICSE sciences, and Ajay Vatsyayan's ISC maths; the notes below follow those roles.

CISCE in a city of SSLC and PUC

Mangaluru classrooms follow the Karnataka state board, CBSE and CISCE, with a smaller group on IB or IGCSE; we do not publish shares for any of them. Tutors who know the SSLC and PU papers well are not automatically ICSE tutors, so a family should be precise when asking for help. The Karnataka School Examination and Assessment Board sets one SSLC science paper; ICSE sets physics, chemistry and biology as three papers, each with its own practical marks. The SSLC follows a published blueprint of fixed question types; ICSE papers expect longer, fully expressed answers in English across almost every subject, and the council publishes examiner analysis of where candidates went wrong. A tutor strong on state board papers needs to show they can meet CISCE's expectations before you commit.

How the ICSE Class 10 subjects are grouped

ICSE groups under the CISCE regulations
GroupWhat it includesExam : internalTuition note
Group I (compulsory)English, a second language, and History, Civics and Geography80 : 20Long written answers; literature and map work need steady practice
Group II (two or three)Choices such as Mathematics, Science, Economics, Commercial Studies, a modern foreign or classical language, Environmental Science80 : 20Maths and the three sciences usually need the most practice
Group III (one)An applied subject, for example Computer Applications, Economic Applications, Commercial Applications, Art, Physical Education, or Robotics and AI50 : 50Half the marks are internal, so projects through the year matter

The ICSE maths and science papers

Final paper and internal marks for ICSE maths and the sciences
PaperFinal examInternal assessment
MathematicsOne paper of three hours, 80 marks20 marks from at least two assignments, each marked by the school's teacher and an external examiner
PhysicsTwo hours, 80 marks20 marks for practical work
ChemistryTwo hours, 80 marks20 marks for practical work
BiologyTwo hours, 80 marks20 marks for practical work

In maths, commercial topics such as banking and shares sit beside algebra, geometry, trigonometry and statistics, and every step of working is expected. In science, strength in one paper does not carry the other two, so decide early whether one tutor will handle all three or whether the weakest paper needs its own specialist. After each exam season CISCE releases a subject-wise Analysis of Pupil Performance; a good tutor uses it alongside the specimen papers to show a student exactly how marks are lost.

Revision in rounds, so early chapters do not go cold

The ICSE syllabus runs across two years, and a frequent problem is not difficulty but distance: by the final term of Class 10, chapters from the start of Class 9 have faded. Three habits fix most of it.

  1. A rolling return. Every few weeks, one session goes back to an old chapter in each weak paper, briefly, so nothing is untouched for months.
  2. Timed writing from Class 9. Speed in long answers builds slowly; leaving it to the last term is too late.
  3. A dated project list. Internal work in the Group III subject, the sciences and maths assignments, written down with deadlines and checked at the start of each month.

A typical session with a good tutor opens with the student's own attempts marked line by line, moves on to one new or weak topic, and ends with a single answer written against the clock.

ISC in Classes 11 and 12: rules worth knowing early

  • Subject count. English is compulsory, plus three to five electives, and no more than six subjects in total.
  • The September lock. Subjects cannot be changed after 15 September of the Class 11 registration year, and any Class 12 subject must have been studied in Class 11. Choose electives with care in the first weeks.
  • Promotion. Moving into Class 12 needs 35% in four subjects including English, and 75% attendance.
  • Practicals. They are compulsory in subjects that have them, and Physics cannot be combined with Engineering Science.
  • Results. Grades run from 1 to 9; a pass certificate needs four subjects including English, plus Socially Useful Productive Work and Community Service.

ISC Mathematics has an 80-mark theory paper of three hours and 20 marks of project work in both years; our ISC maths tutor page and the ICSE and ISC maths guide go further.

Stage by stage on the CISCE route

  • Classes 6 to 8. School exams only. The useful work is habit: full-sentence answers, stepwise maths and science terms used correctly.
  • Class 9. The two-year ICSE syllabus begins. Start revision rounds and weekly diagrams and working now.
  • Class 10. ICSE papers plus internal marks. Specimen papers and examiner analysis, timed, paper by paper.
  • Class 11. ISC electives chosen before the September lock; close the jump from ICSE quickly, especially in physics and maths.
  • Class 12. Depth in each elective, practicals and projects on schedule, and, for science students, a plan that fits JEE or NEET practice around the board.

How ICSE tutors reach six Mangaluru localities

South of the centre. In Kankanady, tutors come by city bus along Balmatta Road or from Pumpwell, and those travelling by train can use Mangaluru Junction at Padil with an auto for the last part; fix the time early because Balmatta Road fills on weekday evenings. In Jeppu, near the Netravati, homes range from older family houses to newer apartment buildings, so say whether the tutor should come to the door or sign in at a gate, and keep an online option ready for the heaviest monsoon days.

Along the Airport Road. Urwa is close to Kottara, Ladyhill and Chilimbi; Urwa Market and the Urwa Stores area are the landmarks to give. Kavoor, further north on the road to Bajpe, has many independent houses, and Kavoor Lake or a junction on the Airport Road helps a tutor find the right lane. Tutors here mostly travel by city bus or two-wheeler, so mention whether a scooter can be parked inside the compound.

The northern suburb. Surathkal and Kulai sit on the national highway, with Surathkal station on the Konkan Railway. A tutor who lives on this side keeps a weekly slot far more easily than one coming up from the centre at shift-closing time. For a specialist subject such as ISC maths or one of the sciences, an online tutor is a sensible addition.

Zone pages: Hampankatta and City Centre, Kadri and Bejai, Kankanady and Jeppu, Urwa to Kavoor and Surathkal. Every locality is on our Mangaluru tutors page.

Home or online for ICSE and ISC?

Maths and the sciences gain most from a tutor at the table, where every line of working and every diagram can be corrected as it is written. English literature, history and geography reviews and timed-answer marking often work well online, because a marked script can be shared on screen. For ISC electives where a nearby specialist is hard to find, an online tutor from another city can be the strongest option. A Class 9 or 10 student who needs help in all three science papers might take one home visit for the weakest of them and a shorter online session for the other two, which keeps the week manageable without losing contact with any paper. Our home or online tutor comparison and the online tutors for Mangaluru page cover the choice. Subject help for the city sits on the maths, physics, chemistry, biology and English pages.

Checking a tutor against the CISCE style

  1. Ask which ICSE or ISC classes they have taught recently, and which papers.
  2. Give them an answer your child wrote and ask them to mark it as a CISCE examiner would.
  3. Ask how they use the specimen papers and the Analysis of Pupil Performance.
  4. For Class 9 or 10, ask how they will keep early chapters alive through revision rounds.
  5. For Class 11, ask how they would advise on electives before the September lock.

If the fit is not right, we arrange another demo, and switching tutor later is free. The demo class checklist lists more questions.

Fees and getting started

ICSE Home Tutor in Mangaluru (ICSE & ISC, Classes 6–12): common questions

What should I send to get an ICSE or ISC tutor shortlist for a Kankanady or Kavoor home?

To get an ICSE or ISC home tutor in Mangaluru, send the class, ICSE or ISC, the papers or electives, your locality with a landmark and suitable times. We send two or three matched tutors who teach the CISCE route, each fee shown before the first class. The first class is a free demo, and switching tutor later is free.

Can a Mangaluru tutor who teaches SSLC handle an ICSE student's papers?

A Mangaluru tutor who teaches Karnataka SSLC can sometimes suit an ICSE student, but test it first, because CISCE expects longer, fully expressed answers in English. ICSE also examines physics, chemistry and biology as three papers, each with practical marks, while SSLC sets one science paper. In the demo, ask the tutor to mark your child's answer the way a CISCE examiner would.

How many marks are internal in ICSE Class 10 maths and the three sciences for Mangaluru students?

For Mangaluru students, ICSE Class 10 maths and each of physics, chemistry and biology carry 20 internal marks beside an 80-mark final paper. Maths is one three-hour paper, with internal marks from at least two assignments marked by the school's teacher and an external examiner. Each science is a two-hour paper with 20 marks for practical work, so strength in one does not carry the others.

Which ISC elective rules should a Mangaluru Class 11 family settle before 15 September?

Mangaluru families starting ISC Class 11 should fix electives early, because subjects cannot be changed after 15 September of the registration year. English is compulsory with three to five electives and no more than six subjects. Promotion to Class 12 needs 35% in four subjects including English and 75% attendance, and practicals are compulsory where a subject has them.

How does an ICSE tutor in Mangaluru stop Class 9 chapters going cold by the Class 10 boards?

An ICSE tutor in Mangaluru keeps Class 9 chapters fresh by planning revision in rounds across the two-year syllabus. Every few weeks a session returns briefly to an old chapter in each weak paper, timed writing starts in Class 9, and a dated list of projects and assignments is checked at the start of every month so internal marks are never rushed.

Is an online specialist sensible for an ISC elective nobody in Mangaluru teaches nearby?

Yes, for an ISC elective that no nearby Mangaluru tutor teaches well, an online specialist from another city is often the stronger choice. Maths and the sciences still benefit from seeing working live, so point a camera at the notebook or use a stylus tablet. For younger ICSE students, keep a home tutor where possible.

What hourly fee should a Mangaluru family budget for ISC Class 12 tuition at home?

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Each ICSE or ISC tutor in Mangaluru sets their own fee, shown before the free demo, and switching tutor later is free.

Which ICSE papers suit a home tutor and which suit online lessons in Mangaluru?

For ICSE in Mangaluru, maths and the sciences gain most from a home tutor at the table, where every line of working and every diagram is corrected as written. English literature, history and geography reviews and timed-answer marking often work well online with a shared marked script. A Class 9 or 10 student weak in all three sciences might take one home visit for the weakest and a shorter online session for the others.

Half the marks in an applied subject like Computer Applications are internal: how should a Mangaluru ICSE family plan for that?

The ICSE Group III subject needs year-round attention for Mangaluru Class 10 students because half its marks are internal, split 50 : 50 with the exam. Choices include Computer Applications, Economic Applications, Commercial Applications, Art, Physical Education, or Robotics and AI. Projects through the year matter, so keep the deadlines on a dated list and check it monthly.

What should I ask an ICSE tutor while they teach a trial class at our Urwa or Jeppu home?

During an ICSE or ISC trial class in Mangaluru, ask which classes and papers the tutor has taught recently and how they use specimen papers. Also ask about CISCE's Analysis of Pupil Performance. Give them an answer your child wrote to mark as a CISCE examiner would. For Class 11, ask how they would advise on electives before the September lock.

Can an ICSE tutor keep a weekly slot in Surathkal or Kulai?

An ICSE tutor who lives on the Surathkal and Kulai side of Mangaluru keeps a weekly slot far more easily than one coming from the centre at shift-closing time. Both sit on the national highway, with Surathkal station on the Konkan Railway. For ISC maths or one of the sciences, an online tutor is a sensible addition.
