What home tuition costs in Mangaluru

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.

Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

Maths home tutor in Mangaluru: SSLC, PUC, CBSE or ICSE first, then a tutor who can reach your junction

In Mangaluru the same Class 10 maths chapter can be heading for four different examiners. One child is preparing for the Karnataka SSLC, a neighbour for the CBSE board, another for ICSE, and a few for Cambridge IGCSE or the IB. Two years later the paths split again: second PUC and the state's CET for some, the CBSE Class 12 paper and JEE for others. A maths tutor has to know which of these your child is sitting before the first sum is set. The city adds a practical question too, because a tutor who lives near the Clock Tower may not want to cross the evening traffic at Nanthoor. Give NXTutors the syllabus and your locality; we come back with two or three maths tutors suited to both, every fee visible before you meet anyone, and the first class is a free demo.

Which maths route is your child on, from Class 9 to the end of school?

Two named authors stand behind the exam detail on this page. Ajay Vatsyayan writes the guidance on IB, IGCSE and ISC maths, and Abhinandan Tiwary writes on Class 10 maths for CBSE and ICSE. Everything else follows one rule: the examining body comes first, because it decides the book, the layout of a full-marks answer and the papers worth practising from.

What should a tutor bring to SSLC and PUC maths?

Karnataka's state board is the Karnataka School Examination and Assessment Board (KSEAB), which works under the state's Department of School Education and Literacy. It runs the SSLC examination at the end of Class 10 and the II PUC examination at the end of the two pre-university years. In 2026 the SSLC was held as Exam 1 and Exam 2, and the II PUC Exam-1 had separate registration for repeater and private candidates. Because the board updates its schemes, this page gives no paper pattern; the current one is on kseab.karnataka.gov.in, and that is where a tutor should take it from.

What a family can judge is the fit:

  • The prescribed book. Practice should start from the state textbook in use this year and from the board's own model and past papers, not from a guide printed for another syllabus.
  • The language of instruction. If your child studied maths in Kannada in earlier years and now answers in English, ask for a tutor who can connect the two sets of terms for a few months.
  • Exam 1 and Exam 2. A plan that treats the first sitting as the real one, and the second as a safety net only, keeps revision honest.
  • The step into PUC. First PUC maths moves fast. Algebra, coordinate geometry and trigonometry that are shaky at the SSLC stage cost far more to repair a year later.

For more on the state route as a whole, see our Karnataka board tutor in Mangaluru page.

CET and JEE in the same year: two sets of guessing rules

Many PUC and CBSE students in Mangaluru prepare for both the Karnataka CET and JEE Main. The maths is largely shared, but the two tests treat a wrong answer very differently, and a tutor should train both habits on purpose.

Maths in the Karnataka CET (2026 bulletin) and JEE Main (2026 pattern): what each rewards and how practice should change
PointKarnataka CETJEE Main, Paper 1
Maths in the testA separate paper of 60 multiple-choice questions, one mark each25 of the 75 questions: 20 multiple-choice and 5 with a numerical answer
Wrong answersNo negative markingFour marks for a right answer, one deducted for a wrong one
Board marksFor the 2026 engineering ranking, CET maths, physics and chemistry marks and the qualifying exam counted in equal proportionsNot part of the JEE score
Practice habitAttempt every question; speed and wide coverage of the PUC syllabusSkip when unsure; depth on fewer, harder problems

The third row matters most to families. Under the 2026 rules, the second PUC result carried as much weight as the CET itself in the engineering rank, so a tutor who drops board writing for CET drills is making a costly trade. The Karnataka Examinations Authority publishes each year's bulletin, and NTA publishes the JEE pattern on jeemain.nta.nic.in; read both before fixing the plan. The JEE home tutor in Mangaluru page and the JEE maths topic-wise guide go further.

CBSE Class 10 maths: which units carry the 80 board marks?

Twenty of the hundred marks are given by the school; the board paper decides the other 80. For 2026-27 CBSE has kept last session's design, with 14 NCERT chapters gathered into seven units. Read the weights as a timetable:

CBSE Class 10 maths, 2026-27: board marks per unit and the slip a Mangaluru tutor should hunt for
UnitBoard marksSlip to hunt for
Algebra (quadratics, progressions, polynomials, pairs of linear equations)20A word problem turned into the wrong equation
Geometry (circles and triangles)15Proof lines with no reason beside them
Trigonometry, with heights and distances12Picking sine or tangent before sketching the figure
Statistics and probability11A column total in a grouped table that was never checked
Mensuration10Units lost when a cone sits on a cylinder
Coordinate geometry; real numbers6 and 6Careless haste on questions that should be certain marks

The paper runs from Section A to E: twenty one-mark items (two of them assertion–reason, the rest multiple-choice), then five worth two, six worth three, four worth five, and finally three case studies at four marks apiece. No calculator is allowed, and π means 22/7 unless a question says otherwise. Standard and Basic share every chapter but not the difficulty: roughly 75% of Basic marks sit on remembering and understanding, compared with roughly 54% for Standard. If Class 11 maths is even a possibility, Standard is the safer registration.

Since 2026 CBSE has run one compulsory main Class 10 exam and an optional later sitting in which a student may improve as many as three subjects; maths qualifies. Dates for 2027 are still to come on cbse.gov.in. Go deeper with the Class 10 maths preparation guide, the board-year planner and the Class 10 maths tutor page.

What does the Class 12 year ask of a maths tutor?

CBSE's Class 12 board paper is 80 marks over 38 questions, none optional, and calculus by itself is worth 35. That should set the rhythm from the first month of the session: integration and differential equations every week, rather than a scramble after the pre-boards, with each solution written so an examiner can follow every line.

A second PUC year has the same shape, with the state textbook and the board's model papers in place of NCERT and CBSE samples. The Class 12 calculus and algebra guide and the Class 12 maths tutor page set out a plan.

ICSE, ISC, IB and IGCSE: four courses, four first checks

Maths on the CISCE and international courses: how each is assessed and the first thing to confirm with a tutor
CourseHow it is assessedConfirm first
ICSE Class 10One 80-mark written paper; internal assessment adds 20. Method marks reward full working. That the tutor marks working, not just answers
ISC Class 12, 2027 and 2028 examsA single 80-mark paper in seven units; the old Section B or C choice is gone, so vectors, 3-D geometry, linear programming and probability are compulsory. Calculus carries 35. Two projects add 20, each scored out of 10 across format, content, findings and viva. That revision books match the new single-paper layout
IB DiplomaAnalysis and Approaches stresses algebra, calculus and proof and has a non-calculator paper; Applications and Interpretation stresses modelling and statistics with a graphic display calculator in every paper. Teaching time is 150 hours at SL, 240 at HL. The exploration is 20% at both levels and must be the student's own.AA or AI, SL or HL, and how the tutor supports the exploration without writing it
Cambridge IGCSECore tops out at grade C; Extended spans A* to G.The tier, settled with the school before entries close

Guides: ICSE Class 10 maths, ICSE and ISC maths and IB maths AA or AI. Teachers with recent ISC, IB or IGCSE students are scarcer in Mangaluru than CBSE or state-syllabus teachers, so put the course name in your very first message; where nobody nearby is free, an online specialist can cover the course-specific part.

Six central Mangaluru localities: what to settle before the first maths class

Most tutors in Mangaluru travel by city bus, auto or two-wheeler, and Mangaluru Central railway station on Old Kent Road helps those who come in by train. The city's centre and its eastern side are close together, but a few junctions decide whether an evening class starts on time. Browse every locality on our Mangaluru page.

Six Mangaluru localities: homes, how a maths tutor usually arrives, and one thing to agree early

PandeshwarApartment towers beside banks and government offices, west towards the old port at BunderBus or train to the centre, then a short auto rideThe tutor's name at the security desk, and a fixed time that misses office traffic
KadriHigh-rise apartments around Kadri Hill and Kadri ParkCity bus to the main Kadri junction or the park, then a walk or autoTower and flat number for the visitor register; a slot outside the weekday evening peak
BejaiMostly apartment buildings, with shops and offices close byBus or auto from the centre or the north; the KSRTC stand in the Lalbagh area is nearbyEarly evening or weekend, as roads near the bus stand fill at office closing time

The Hampankatta and City Centre and Kadri and Bejai zone pages add landmarks and quieter hours, and the Mangaluru home tuition guide covers the whole city, including Surathkal and the Airport Road side.

How to use the free maths demo well

Bring the last marked test and the chapter your child is on this week. A careful tutor asks for an attempt before explaining anything, names each error by type (misreading, arithmetic, or a missing idea), and ends by telling you the homework and the next three sessions' plan. If the fit is wrong, the next demo is with another tutor from your shortlist, and changing tutor later is free too. Tutors who join go through an ID check; the Verified badge appears only after our team has reviewed the ID (our ID check page sets out the steps). The demo class checklist for parents has more to look for.

Home, online, or a week with both?

Sitting at the same table helps most with younger students and with proofs, where the tutor can stop an error while the pencil is still moving. Online lessons suit an IB or ISC specialist who lives across the city, or a PUC student whose college day ends late. In the wettest monsoon weeks, when some roads crawl, an online lesson with the same tutor keeps the chain of weekly practice unbroken; plenty of Mangaluru families simply split the week, one visit at home and one session on screen. Our home tutor or online tutor article compares the two.

How much does a maths home tutor in Mangaluru charge?

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Rates belong to the tutors, not to us. Expect them to move with the syllabus (a second PUC or ISC year is not priced like Class 7), with how long the tutor has taught that paper, with how awkward the evening trip to you is, and with how many lessons you book. Each shortlisted fee is on screen before any demo is fixed. Our home tuition fees in Mangaluru article lists the questions worth asking.

What to tell us when you ask for maths tutors

A useful request names the class and the exact syllabus: SSLC, first or second PUC, CBSE (and Standard or Basic in Class 10), ICSE, ISC, IB or IGCSE. Add your locality and a landmark every tutor will know, such as the Clock Tower, Kadri Park or Bendoorwell, the evenings or weekend mornings you can offer, and the budget you have in mind. Our reply is a shortlist of two or three maths tutors, each with a fee, and you decide whom to try at the free demo. Where no suitable tutor can get to your part of Mangaluru at that hour, the shortlist includes online or part-online options instead. Our office is in Sector 66, Gurugram, and lessons run online all over India; the national maths home tutor page covers other cities. For the sciences, see physics and science tutors in Mangaluru.

Maths Home Tutor in Mangaluru: common questions

How much does a maths home tutor in Mangaluru cost?

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Each tutor fixes their own rate, and every shortlisted fee is shown before you book the free demo.

Can you find a maths tutor for the Karnataka SSLC or second PUC?

Yes. Ask for a tutor who teaches from the state textbook in use this year and practises from the board's own model and past papers. KSEAB conducts both the SSLC and the II PUC examination and updates its schemes, so take the current pattern from kseab.karnataka.gov.in before planning revision.

My child is writing both the Karnataka CET and JEE Main. How should maths practice differ?

Under the 2026 rules, the CET maths paper had 60 one-mark questions with no negative marking, so every question should be attempted. JEE Main deducted a mark for each wrong answer, so careful skipping matters there. A tutor should rehearse both habits and keep second PUC board writing on track.

Do second PUC marks matter if my child is taking the CET?

They did in 2026. The Karnataka Examinations Authority bulletin for that year ranked engineering candidates on CET physics, chemistry and maths marks and the qualifying examination in equal proportions. Check the current bulletin, but plan as if the board paper counts, because dropping board writing for drills can cost rank.

Which localities in Mangaluru do your maths tutors cover?

We match across the city: Hampankatta and the centre, Kadri and Bejai, Kankanady and Jeppu, the Urwa to Kavoor stretch along the Airport Road, and Surathkal in the north. When nobody suitable can reach your home at the hour you need, we suggest online lessons or a mix of both.

Should my child take Standard or Basic maths in CBSE Class 10?

Choose Standard if maths in Class 11 is at all possible. Both levels cover the same 14 chapters for 80 board marks, but Basic places about three-quarters of its marks on remembering and understanding, while Standard asks for more application. Schools fix the choice at registration, so check the deadline early.

Can a maths tutor reach a high-rise flat in Kadri or Bejai?

Yes. Most towers there register visitors at a security desk, so share the tutor's name with the tower and flat number before the demo. The junctions around Kadri and Nanthoor are busiest on weekday evenings, so an earlier slot or a tutor living on your side of them is the steadiest choice.

Is online maths tuition a good option during the monsoon?

It often helps. On the heaviest rain days some roads in Mangaluru slow down, and switching that week's lesson online with the same tutor keeps the routine intact. Online sessions also bring in IB, ISC or IGCSE specialists who live across the city, while home visits suit younger children.
