Now taking on home, online and hybrid tutors · in Kochi
Science in the middle and secondary years is three subjects pretending to be one, and Kochi parents notice the strain around Class 8 or 9. A child who coped with descriptive chapters suddenly meets chemical equations, electricity numericals and labelled diagrams of the eye or the heart in the same month. Families want someone who can switch between physics, chemistry and biology inside a single evening lesson without losing the thread.
No open science requests in Kochi right now. New family requests appear here as they come in; join now so they can reach you.
If that describes your teaching, Kochi offers steady work across all three of its main boards. A family on NXTutors tells us the class, the board, whether the child studies in Malayalam or English, the locality and the free hours. We put a few matching profiles in front of them with fees visible, and the opening lesson is a free demo. You decide which classes you take, how far you travel and whether you also teach online.
The Kerala State Board accounts for a large share of Kochi's science students. Up to Class 10 the subject builds towards the SSLC, the first public examination, held through Kerala Pareeksha Bhavan, and a tutor should work from the state textbooks the school uses, chapter by chapter, keeping pace with the school's own term tests. Medium matters more in science than parents expect: a student writing in Malayalam needs the textbook's own terms for force, reaction or photosynthesis, while an English-medium child needs the English ones, and a tutor who mixes them up costs marks.
CBSE students in Classes 6 to 10 learn from NCERT, and the board increasingly rewards applying an idea to an unfamiliar case: a circuit with a twist, a reaction described in words, a case passage on an ecosystem. Sample papers and marking schemes on cbseacademic.nic.in show how diagrams, units and steps are rewarded. ICSE students take physics, chemistry and biology as separate papers, with long written answers over a wide syllabus, so a tutor needs to cover more ground and test recall under time.
The pressure points are predictable. In chemistry, balancing equations, acids and bases and the periodic table. In physics, motion graphs, electricity numericals, light and the eye. In biology, life processes, control and coordination, heredity and well-drawn diagrams. A tutor who can pick out which of these is costing a particular child marks, and fix it in a few weeks, tends to keep the student through to Class 10.
Science requests come from every zone, so the question is less where the work is than which homes you can reach on time. Central Ernakulam and Vyttila & Tripunithura sit on the Blue Line, with stations at Kaloor, Town Hall, Ernakulam South, Kadavanthra, Elamkulam, Vyttila, Thaikoodam, Pettah and Vadakkekotta, so a metro-riding tutor can manage two after-school visits in one evening. Towers on Marine Drive and in Maradu sign visitors in at the desk; houses in Panampilly Nagar and Elamkulam are doorstep visits.
Edappally & North Kochi follows the oldest stretch of the line up to Aluva, though shift changes near Kalamassery's industrial gates slow the roads. Kakkanad & East Kochi needs a tutor who lives nearby or arrives after office traffic on the Seaport–Airport Road, with gated communities registering every visitor. For West Kochi & Islands, the Water Metro from the High Court terminal to Fort Kochi, Vypin and Mattancherry is often steadier than the bridges.
Spell out your range on the profile: 'Science, Classes 6 to 10; Kerala State Board in English and Malayalam medium, CBSE and ICSE' is easy for a parent to trust. If you are stronger in one branch, say so, since some Class 9 and 10 families want a chemistry-and-physics tutor while the school covers biology well. List the zones and the station or jetty you use, and switch on online for exam weeks.
For the demo, ask the child to bring the science notebook and the last test. Choose one diagram or numerical that went wrong and rebuild it: draw the ray diagram step by step, or set out the circuit with every value and unit. Then ask the child to explain the idea back in their own words, in their medium. A parent watching sees the gap close in the room, which is what persuades them more than any credential.

A family request that fits your subjects, classes, board, areas and hours reaches your dashboard. Opening the family's contact details uses lead credits, and the credit price is shown on the request before you open it. At most 5 tutors can open one request, and a request stays open for 7 days. Credit packs are there if you need more.
You set your own fee. When a family pays for classes through NXTutors, you receive 50% of the fee for home tuition in the first month and the full fee after that, and 70% of the fee for online tuition every month. Payments are held for 7 days, then paid out weekly. How you get paid.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more.
Mainly the Kerala State Board up to the SSLC, then CBSE and ICSE. A smaller group of IGCSE students study the sciences separately and are usually taught online.
For Classes 6 to 8, families expect one tutor for the whole subject. In Classes 9 and 10 some want a specialist for physics and chemistry. Say on your profile which you cover so requests fit.
Very. State-syllabus students may write in Malayalam or English, and the technical terms differ. Teach in the medium of the child's textbook and state your medium clearly on the profile.
Before the first term examinations ahead of the Onam break, during model papers between Onam and Christmas, and in the run-up to the Class 10 public examination. CBSE students start in April, state-syllabus students usually in June.
Yes, if the route works every week. The Water Metro reaches Fort Kochi, Vypin and Mattancherry from the High Court terminal. Many tutors on the mainland prefer to teach island students online instead.
Use the state's official notices and Kerala Pareeksha Bhavan for the SSLC, cbseacademic.nic.in for CBSE, and cisce.org for ICSE. Avoid dates or schemes from unofficial sites.
