Ask a Kochi parent which subject they want help with first and maths is usually the answer, whether the child is in Class 6 at a state-syllabus school in Aluva or in Class 12 on ISC near Panampilly Nagar. The city's guide for parents puts it simply: Class 9 is where maths first gets harder, and whatever is missed there returns in the Class 10 public examination, be it the SSLC, CBSE or ICSE. That is the window in which a patient maths tutor becomes part of a family's week.

This page is for tutors deciding whether Kochi maths work suits them. It covers which classes and boards ask, how the medium of instruction changes the job, where the work sits across the five zones and how to travel there, and what a good demo looks like. Families on NXTutors describe the class, board, medium, locality and free hours; we suggest a short list of profiles; they see your fee and book a free demo before any regular plan begins.
Middle school is steady ground. Classes 6 to 8 bring fractions, integers, early algebra, ratio and simple geometry, and parents mostly want routine: homework finished, tables secure, written working neat enough that a teacher can follow it. A tutor who catches a weak foundation here saves the family a hard Class 9. Many of these requests are for one or two visits a week, and they often last the whole year.
Classes 9 and 10 carry the pressure. On the Kerala State Board, the SSLC at the end of Class 10 is the first public examination, conducted through Kerala Pareeksha Bhavan, and the state textbooks set the order of chapters and the style of questions; a tutor teaches from those books, not from a different series. A state-syllabus child may write in Malayalam or English, so the terms you use for equations, similar triangles or probability should match the textbook the child carries. CBSE students work from NCERT with sample papers and marking schemes on cbseacademic.nic.in, where shown steps earn marks even when the final answer slips. ICSE maths is long and wide, and timed practice matters more than anywhere else.
Seniors want a specialist. In the Higher Secondary course, students choose a subject group, and those with maths face calculus, vectors, matrices and probability at a pace the school rarely slows for. CBSE Class 11 and 12 and ISC students ask for the same depth, often with JEE in view. A smaller group studies IB Diploma maths, as Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation at SL or HL, or Cambridge IGCSE, and these families are usually served online.
The Blue Line shapes a maths tutor's map. From Aluva through Kalamassery, Edapally and Palarivattom in Edappally & North Kochi, down through Kaloor, Town Hall and Kadavanthra in Central Ernakulam, to Vyttila and Thrippunithura Terminal in Vyttila & Tripunithura, a tutor living near any station can reach a long stretch of homes with a short auto at the end. For weekly maths lessons, that reliability is worth more than distance on a map.
Kakkanad & East Kochi has no metro station yet, and the Seaport–Airport Road is slow when offices open and close, so tutors there do well to live nearby or to book after the rush; the Water Metro from Vyttila to Chittethukara is the one rail-or-water link for now. In West Kochi & Islands, Fort Kochi, Mattancherry, Palluruthy and Vypin are reached by boat or by the Goshree bridges and Thoppumpady, and families there tend to choose a tutor from their own side of the harbour.
Be precise on the profile. 'Maths, Classes 8 to 10, Kerala State Board in Malayalam and English medium; CBSE Classes 9 to 12' tells a parent more than a list of every class. Name the zones you can reach every week, mention the metro station or jetty near you, and switch on online if you can take students across the harbour or in Kakkanad on weekday evenings. Clear hours help too: many families want lessons after school or on weekend mornings.
In the demo, start with the last test the student wrote. Find a question where marks were lost, ask the student to talk through it, and locate the exact step that went wrong, whether a sign error, a misread condition or a missing theorem. Re-teach only that idea, set a similar question, and let the student solve it while you watch. Before leaving, tell the parent what the next month covers and how it fits the school's term calendar, including the Onam break if it falls in that stretch.

A family request that fits your subjects, classes, board, areas and hours reaches your dashboard. Opening the family's contact details uses lead credits, and the credit price is shown on the request before you open it. At most 5 tutors can open one request, and a request stays open for 7 days. Credit packs are there if you need more.
You set your own fee. When a family pays for classes through NXTutors, you receive 50% of the fee for home tuition in the first month and the full fee after that, and 70% of the fee for online tuition every month. Payments are held for 7 days, then paid out weekly. How you get paid.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more.
Classes 9 and 10, before the SSLC, CBSE or ICSE paper, are the heaviest, followed by Higher Secondary and Class 11 to 12 maths on CBSE and ISC. Middle-school requests are common too, usually for weekly support with homework and foundations.
Only if you want state-syllabus students who study in Malayalam medium. Many families ask for English medium, and CBSE and CISCE students learn in English. Say on your profile which medium you teach so the request matches.
CBSE schools start in April and state-syllabus schools usually reopen in June. Term examinations often fall before the Onam break, revision and model papers follow from Onam to Christmas, and the new year is for full papers. Plan chapters around the calendar of the child's own board.
Yes. Online suits Kakkanad families on weekday evenings, island students when crossing the harbour is slow, and IB or IGCSE learners. A weekly home visit with a short online session for doubts is a common pattern.
Only in the state's official notices, including Kerala Pareeksha Bhavan for the SSLC. Use cbseacademic.nic.in for CBSE and cisce.org for ICSE and ISC. Do not plan around dates that have not been announced.
The request describes the class, board, medium, subject, locality and suitable times. Contact details follow the platform's lead and credit process, which the jobs page explains, and the demo then takes place with a parent at home.
