Maths tutor jobs: teaching maths at home and online through NXTutors
Maths tuition work on NXTutors begins with a family's request, not a job advert. A parent tells us the class, the board, the chapters or exam that worry them and where they live, and we put forward two or three maths tutors whose profiles fit. This page is for maths teachers deciding whether that way of working suits them: what parents expect from a maths tutor at each stage and on each board, how a request finds its way to you, what happens in the demo class, and how to set up a profile that brings you the maths work you actually want.

- Women tutors welcome
You choose the classes you take, the localities you can reach, whether you also teach online and what you charge for each class. Families see your fee before they meet you. Nothing on this page promises a number of students: the requests that reach you depend on where you live, what you teach and which families happen to ask.
How you get tuition work on NXTutors
Six steps from applying to your first class. Swipe to see each step.
-
Sign up with a one-time code
Sign up with a one-time code, then list exactly which maths you teach: CBSE Class 10 Standard or Basic, ICSE, ISC, IB AA or AI, IGCSE Core or Extended.
-
Upload your ID; our team reviews it
Upload a government photo ID from your dashboard. Our team reviews it before your profile is marked Verified, and each ID number can be linked to one tutor account only.
-
Your profile carries the Verified badge
With the Verified badge on your profile, parents see your maths classes and boards, the localities you reach, whether you teach online and your fee per class.
-
A family nearby sends a request
A parent asks for help with, say, Class 9 algebra. We shortlist two or three maths tutors whose classes and boards fit, nearest first for home lessons.
-
Free demo; the family sees your fee first
The demo is free for the family, who already know your fee. Teach a real lesson on this week's chapter and let the student hold the pencil for most of it.
-
Teach at home, online or both
Teach at home, online with a shared whiteboard or a camera over the notebook, or both. Keep your class list current as your students move up a year.
What parents want from a maths tutor, stage by stage
In Classes 1 to 5 the job is number sense: place value, the four operations, times tables learnt with understanding, then fractions, measurement and simple word problems. Parents of young children want a patient tutor who uses objects, drawings and number lines before symbols. A Class 4 child still counting on fingers usually needs firmer number facts, not another page of drill, and a good tutor can say so in the first lesson.
Classes 6 to 8 are the bridge to algebra. Integers, fractions and decimals, ratio and percentage, and then letters standing for numbers all arrive here, and gaps from these years resurface in Class 10. One or two sessions a week spent closing those gaps and building neat, step-by-step setting out is the usual shape of the work.
From Class 9 the pace jumps: proofs in geometry, polynomials, coordinate geometry and statistics, followed by the Class 10 board paper. In Classes 11 and 12 the syllabus turns abstract (sets and functions, trigonometric functions, limits, calculus, vectors, three-dimensional geometry and probability), and a specialist is worth having. For JEE students who attend coaching, the home tutor's role is usually clearing doubts from coaching sheets and rebuilding the weakest chapters.
Board by board: what changes for a maths tutor
CBSE maths is built on the NCERT textbooks, and board papers stay close to NCERT examples, exercises and exemplar problems, with case studies, assertion and reason items and application problems in real-life settings. In Class 10 a student sits either Standard or Basic mathematics, so ask which one before the demo. CISCE's ICSE syllabus covers more ground, including GST, banking, shares and dividends, matrices, loci and reflection, and its papers reward complete working. ISC maths in Classes 11 and 12 needs a tutor who knows its sections and choices well.
IB Diploma students take Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation, each at Standard or Higher Level, and both include the mathematical exploration as internal assessment. You may coach the method, but the exploration must stay the student's own work. Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics has a Core and an Extended tier; past papers and mark schemes are central to preparation. State boards vary in chapter order, paper pattern and marking, and some teach in regional languages, so a tutor who knows recent papers for that board is the right match.
The demo class: what it is and what a parent watches
The demo is your first class with the family. It is free for them, and it should be a normal lesson on the topic the student is doing in school this week, not an interview or a talk about your results. Ask the parent beforehand for the class, board, a recent test paper and two weak chapters, so you can prepare something specific.
Parents are told to look for a tutor who asks a few questions before explaining, lets the student hold the pencil for most of the hour, spots one particular slip in the working and explains why it is wrong, can explain an idea a second way, knows how step marks are awarded on that board, and ends with a plan for the next four to six weeks. If the family decides another tutor fits better, they can switch at no cost to them; treat that as part of how matching works rather than a verdict on your teaching.
How a maths request reaches you
A family's request carries the class, board, maths topics or exam in focus, their area, preferred days and times, home or online, and a budget range. For home classes we look nearest first: tutors who live in that area, then tutors who list it as somewhere they travel to, then the wider zone and the city, with online tutors after that. From that pool we shortlist two or three, and the family sees each tutor's fee before the free demo. Verified tutors are shown first.
You set your fee per class, and the family sees it on your profile before the demo, so there is no bargaining after a good lesson. Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more.
Building a maths profile, the ID check and tutor plans
Be precise on your profile. Instead of writing all maths, list the classes and courses you have actually taught: CBSE Class 10 Standard and Basic, ICSE Class 9 and 10, ISC, IB Analysis and Approaches HL, IGCSE Extended, JEE Main. Add the localities you can reach on a weekday evening, say whether you teach online and how students will show their working, and give the hours you have free. A clear profile means the requests that reach you are ones you can teach well.
Tutors who join go through an ID check: you confirm your phone or email with a one-time code and upload a government photo ID, which our team reviews before the profile is marked Verified. Tutors who pass carry a Verified badge. It confirms identity only; it is not a police or background check. The full steps are on How we verify tutors. Joining is free, and the Free plan includes 160 lead credits a month; paid plans on /pricing are optional extras, never a fee to apply for a tuition.
Teaching maths at home or online
Home classes suit younger children, students who drift on a screen, and anyone whose handwritten working needs close watching. Online suits specialist needs such as IB HL, ISC, JEE or olympiad problem-solving, students far from a suitable tutor, and late or weekend slots. Hybrid plans, one home class plus online sessions for doubts and tests, work when the same tutor runs both.
NXTutors does not run its own video classroom. You and the family agree the call and whiteboard tool before the demo, and the class link goes to a number or group the parent can see. For maths, the deciding detail is that you can watch the working line by line: a shared whiteboard with a stylus, or the student's phone clamped above the notebook as a second camera. Without that, you are marking answers rather than teaching.
Women tutors welcome
For women tutors: you set the terms
Some parents prefer a woman tutor, perhaps for a daughter or a younger child, and NXTutors treats that as a family's preference to respect, not a judgement about who teaches maths well. If you are a woman who teaches maths, you decide whether lessons happen in families' homes, online or both, which localities you visit and which hours you keep. Every tutor who joins goes through an ID check before the profile is marked Verified, and each first lesson is a demo where we ask a parent to be present.
- Maths works online with a stylus or a phone camera over the notebook, so home visits are optional.
- List only the localities you will travel to for home classes.
- Set your hours around your own week.
- The first lesson is a demo where we ask a parent to be at home or watching online.
- Teach in a shared room; online, the class link goes to the parent's number.
- In a gated society, ask for each visit to be logged in the visitor app or gate register.
- Stop any arrangement that worries you and tell us; /safeguarding-policy explains what we do.
Read the safeguarding policy and how the ID check works.
Why tutors choose NXTutors
What is different from a directory listing or a tuition bureau.
-
You set your fee
Your fee per class is on your profile, and families see it before the demo, so there is no haggling after a good class.
-
Matched, nearest first
Each request goes to two or three tutors who fit it, nearest first, not to a long list of people chasing the same family.
-
Demo first
The first class is a free demo. Families decide after meeting you, not from a phone call or a price list.
-
No made-up leads
We never show invented requests. The only request details on these pages are real and anonymised, and only once there are three or more.
-
An ID check for everyone
Every tutor who joins goes through the same ID check. Real tutors who pass carry the Verified badge; sample profiles are always labelled.
-
AI-first, with real teachers
Parents can ask NXT AI about your profile and compare tutors side by side. The teaching is always yours.
Tutor plans and what each includes
Tutor plans are listed on our pricing page with what each one includes. Read them before you apply; we do not quote prices on this page. Tutors are independent: you set your own fee, and families pay you for the classes they take.
Questions from tutors
Can I take only some classes of maths, for example Classes 9 to 12?
Yes. List only the classes, boards and courses you want on your profile. Requests are matched on class and board as well as subject, so a tutor who lists Classes 9 to 12 CBSE and ISC is not put forward for a Class 3 family. You can change the list later as your experience grows.
Is the demo class paid for the tutor?
The demo is free for the family. It is the lesson in which the parent and student decide, so treat it as a real class on the student's current chapter. Families see your fee before it, which means that if they go ahead the fee has already been settled and there is nothing left to negotiate.
Can I teach IB or IGCSE maths online from a different city?
Yes. Choose online or both on your profile. Online requests are matched on subject, board and class, not on where you live, so an IB or IGCSE maths specialist can teach families in other cities. Agree the call and whiteboard tool with each family before the first class.
How are home maths requests shared between tutors?
Nearest first. Tutors in the family's own area come first, then tutors who travel to that area, then the zone and the city, and online tutors after that. Two or three tutors are shortlisted for each request, so a request is not sent to everyone.
What does the ID check involve and is it a police check?
You confirm your phone or email with a one-time code and upload a government photo ID, which our team reviews before your profile is marked Verified. Passing it gives you a Verified badge. It confirms who you are; it is not a police verification or criminal background check. See How we verify tutors for the steps.
What does it cost to join as a maths tutor?
Joining NXTutors and setting up your profile are free. The Free plan includes 160 lead credits a month, which you spend to unlock the family requests you want to answer. Paid plans (/pricing) are optional and add visibility, AI tools and more credits; none is a fee to apply for a tuition. Your own fee to families is separate: you set it, and parents see it before the demo.
