Maths tutor jobs in Leh

Teaching maths around Leh means running two timetables in one year. In term time you drive or ride to family houses in the town and the valley villages for regular after-school visits, timed around the busy summer roads. From late November to early March the cold and the long school break change everything: visits shift to midday in early winter, then largely online with the same student until school reopens. Maths fades quickly without practice, so families want a tutor who plans both timetables at the start rather than improvising in December.

The syllabus side is simpler than in many cities. CBSE's own affiliation list carries Ladakh as a separate entry, with government high and higher secondary schools across Leh district on it beside private schools, so most children here prepare for CBSE maths papers written from NCERT books. A few follow CISCE, the IB or IGCSE, usually with online specialists. What sets a Leh maths tutor apart is reliability across the seasons and the ability to find a house by a landmark rather than a street number. Here is who asks, where the work is and how to be chosen.

Who asks for maths tutors in Leh

Many requests begin in the middle years, because most Class 10 trouble starts there. A child unsure of fractions, signed numbers or rearranging an equation can follow the class and still freeze on a two-step question at home. Parents of Classes 6 and 7 ask for place value, fractions, decimals and ratio with every line of working written down; in Class 8 the focus becomes algebraic expressions and setting up an equation from words. CBSE affiliation is granted at secondary and senior secondary level, so for these younger classes it is worth asking the school which books it uses.

Class 9 and Class 10 bring board-focused requests. In CBSE's 2026-27 scheme, Class 9 students write one common 80-mark maths paper, with an optional Advanced paper of 25 marks beside it, outside the aggregate, which suits only a child who is already comfortable. In Class 10 the 80 board marks come from fourteen NCERT chapters: algebra 20, geometry 15, trigonometry 12, statistics and probability 11, mensuration 10, and real numbers and coordinate geometry 6 each, across five sections from one-mark items to case studies. CBSE has said the Standard and Basic system stops after the 2026-27 Class 10 batch, and there are now two Class 10 board exams, the second optional for improving up to three subjects.

In Classes 11 and 12 the CBSE paper has 38 compulsory questions worth 80 marks, with calculus alone accounting for 35, so families want a tutor who gives it the largest block of time from the start and treats Class 11 functions and limits seriously. Some students also prepare for JEE Main, whose 2026 Paper 1 carried 25 maths questions, twenty with options and five needing a numerical answer. A tutor who can split the week between timed objective work and a fully written board answer is the kind these families ask for.

Where in Leh the work is

Leh is grouped into three zones. Leh Town Centre covers the Main Bazaar and old town, Housing Colony, Changspa and Sankar. Choglamsar, Spituk & West takes in Choglamsar, Saboo, Spituk and Phyang. Indus Valley South & East covers Stok, the Chuchot villages, Shey and Thiksey across the river and to the east. Almost every home is a family house reached at its own door, so there are few gates to sign in at, but house numbers are not always used; you need a landmark, a lane marker or a cluster name, and an agreed place to stop a vehicle.

Routes decide which maths students you can see twice a week. Two circular roads join Choglamsar to Leh, one through Spituk and one through Saboo, so a tutor living on either can teach several homes in one round without crossing the bazaar. A suspension bridge links Choglamsar with Chuchot Yokma and Stok, and a home in Shey and one in Thiksey can often share a trip. Phyang has eight clusters, so ask which one. In the old town you park near the bazaar and walk the lanes, and the bazaar and the highway near Choglamsar are busiest on summer days, so early or late slots are easier to keep.

What families in Leh expect

  • Working from NCERT chapters, CBSE sample papers and marking schemes, with steps laid out so an examiner can award step marks.
  • A plan for both halves of the year: home visits in term and online lessons with the same student through the winter break.
  • Comfort teaching maths online, with the student writing on paper and showing each step to the camera or sending a photo straight after.
  • Diagnosis before teaching: a list of gaps from the middle-school years, repaired alongside the current school chapter.
  • A clear view on whether a Class 9 student should attempt the optional Advanced paper.
  • For senior students, separate sessions for timed objective practice and full written board answers.
  • Patience with first visits: finding the house by landmark and agreeing where to stop.

How to get picked

Families in Leh want to know two things from a maths tutor's profile: which classes and courses you teach, and whether you will still be teaching their child in January. Say plainly that you offer both home and online lessons and how you handle the winter break. List the localities you can reach regularly, grouped by the route you use, such as the town centre lanes or the villages on one circular road, rather than the whole valley.

In the free demo, ask the child to bring the notebook and teach whatever chapter the class reached this week. Check what the child knows before explaining, name each mistake by type, and keep the pen in the child's hand for most of the lesson. Before leaving, sketch the term plan and the winter plan for the parent, including when you would move online. Families can switch tutor at no cost, so the tutor who keeps the routine going through the cold months is the one they keep; see how you get paid on the tutor terms page.

Joining, leads and pay

Joining is free

Applying, onboarding, building your profile, the ID check and receiving matched requests on the Free plan cost nothing. The Free plan gives you 160 lead credits every month.

Paid plans are optional

Pro, Premium and Featured are optional platform subscriptions: more visibility, AI tools and more lead credits. They are never a fee to apply for a tuition. See tutor plans.

How leads and credits work

A family request that fits your subjects, classes, board, areas and hours reaches your dashboard. Opening the family's contact details uses lead credits, and the credit price is shown on the request before you open it. At most 5 tutors can open one request, and a request stays open for 7 days. Credit packs are there if you need more.

How you get paid

You set your own fee. When a family pays for classes through NXTutors, you receive 50% of the fee for home tuition in the first month and the full fee after that, and 70% of the fee for online tuition every month. Payments are held for 7 days, then paid out weekly. How you get paid.

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more.

Questions from tutors

Which board do most Leh maths students follow?

Mainly CBSE. CBSE's affiliation list has a separate entry for Ladakh, with government high and higher secondary schools across Leh district on it beside private schools. A few students follow CISCE, the IB or IGCSE, usually with online tutors. Confirm the board at the demo.

What happens to maths tuition in the Leh winter?

Winter runs from late November to early March, with a long school break. Many tutors move visits to midday in early winter and teach online through the break, using it for revision, sample papers and the first chapters of the next class.

Can I teach maths online from Leh to students elsewhere?

Yes. Home requests go first to tutors close to the family, but online requests can come from any city in India. Many Leh tutors combine a few home students with online ones.

Which localities should I list if I live in Choglamsar?

Those you can reach reliably at lesson time, such as Saboo and Spituk on the circular roads, and Stok or Chuchot across the bridge. Keep farther places, like Phyang or the town centre, for online lessons if the trip will not hold through the year.

Do Leh families ask for JEE maths?

Some senior students prepare for JEE Main alongside the CBSE board. Split the week between timed objective practice and a full board-style answer, and confirm each year's pattern on jeemain.nta.nic.in.

Is joining free for maths tutors in Leh?

Yes. Joining is free and the Free plan includes monthly lead credits. Paid plans are optional subscriptions, never a fee to apply for a tuition. You set your own fee, and some tutors set a different rate for online lessons.
