Now taking on home, online and hybrid tutors · in Ranchi
Ask a Ranchi parent what went wrong in maths and the answer usually points back to one year: Class 9. That is when algebra stops being a set of rules and starts asking for reasons, when geometry brings its first proofs, and when gaps from the middle-school years begin to cost marks. A maths tutor who can find those gaps quickly, and repair them without making the student feel behind, is the kind of teacher Ranchi families keep for years rather than months.

This page is for maths teachers weighing up Ranchi: a retired teacher in Harmu Housing Colony, a postgraduate near Morabadi, a working professional in Dhurwa who teaches in the evening, or anyone else who can reach a few homes by two-wheeler. It explains which boards and classes ask for maths, how the four zones work for a tutor, what parents look for, and how to come through the free demo well. NXTutors does not post vacancies. A family describes its child, and we suggest two or three tutors who fit, starting with the nearest.
Three boards make up most maths requests in Ranchi. The Jharkhand Academic Council (JAC) conducts the Class 10 and Class 12 examinations for its affiliated schools, and many students in the city write those papers. A JAC student wants a tutor who works from the prescribed textbooks and practises in the council's own question style, using the model papers on jac.jharkhand.gov.in rather than guides passed around on phones. CBSE students follow NCERT, choose Standard or Basic mathematics in Class 10, and meet case-based and assertion-reason items that reward applying a method rather than recalling it. ICSE and ISC students write long, fully worked solutions, and marks follow the working as much as the final line.
By stage, the work splits cleanly. Classes 5 to 8 need fractions, decimals, ratio, negative numbers and early algebra made secure, ideally in one or two calm sessions a week at the dining table. Classes 9 and 10 bring polynomials, linear equations in two variables, triangles and similarity, coordinate geometry, trigonometry and statistics, all heading for the board paper. Classes 11 and 12 add sets and functions, sequences, limits, then calculus, matrices, vectors, three-dimensional geometry and probability. Commerce students often take mathematics or applied mathematics too, and they need the same care with written steps.
Entrance ambitions shape senior requests. Plenty of Ranchi students in Classes 11 and 12 already attend JEE coaching, and families rarely want a tutor to repeat the batch. What they ask for is narrower: clear the unsolved questions from the week's coaching sheets, keep Class 12 board answers neat while the coaching races ahead, and rebuild whichever chapter keeps losing marks in tests. IB and IGCSE maths students in Ranchi usually find a specialist online, so a tutor who knows Maths AA or AI, or the Cambridge Core and Extended tiers, can reach them without crossing the city.
Ranchi has no metro, so maths tuition here is planned around roads. Harmu, Argora & Ratu Road is a natural base for many tutors: Harmu Housing Colony and Ashok Nagar are plotted colonies where you can usually park at the door, and the Ratu Road elevated corridor now takes through traffic off the ground-level road. Kanke Road, Morabadi & Bariatu covers the residential north, where apartment buildings keep a gate register and events at the Morabadi ground can fill the surrounding roads. Lalpur, Kokar & Namkum runs from the busy chowk, where parking is scarce, out to spread-out homes in Namkum that suit a tutor with their own two-wheeler.
Doranda, Hinoo & Hatia takes in the south, including the sector roads of the Dhurwa township and the staff colonies around Hatia, where parking is easy though some colonies ask visitors to sign in. Hatia and Argora stations help a tutor coming from across town, with an auto for the last stretch. A practical pattern for maths is to keep home students within one zone, perhaps two that touch, and teach senior calculus or revision online. Shared whiteboards handle graphs and geometry diagrams well, and an online slot on a match day near the stadium saves a wasted trip.
Parents scan a maths profile for three things: board, class range and where you teach. Put them in your first line, for instance "JAC and CBSE maths, Classes 8 to 10, home lessons in Harmu, Ashok Nagar and Argora". Then say what you are strongest at, whether that is rebuilding foundations, steering a Class 10 student through the board year, or Class 12 calculus and vectors. If you also teach online, tick it; students elsewhere in Jharkhand and the rest of India can then find you. Keep your free hours honest, because a slot you cannot hold costs more than one you leave closed.
The free demo is an ordinary lesson on whatever chapter school is teaching that week, and that suits a maths tutor. Ask the student to try one question while you watch, without helping. Where the pencil stops tells you what to teach first. Explain that step, set a similar question, and let the student finish it alone. Before you leave, tell the parent in two or three sentences what the first month will cover and how they will see progress. Your fee is already on your profile; for payouts, see how you get paid on the tutor terms page.
Applying, onboarding, building your profile, the ID check and receiving matched requests on the Free plan cost nothing. The Free plan gives you 160 lead credits every month.
Pro, Premium and Featured are optional platform subscriptions: more visibility, AI tools and more lead credits. They are never a fee to apply for a tuition. See tutor plans.
A family request that fits your subjects, classes, board, areas and hours reaches your dashboard. Opening the family's contact details uses lead credits, and the credit price is shown on the request before you open it. At most 5 tutors can open one request, and a request stays open for 7 days. Credit packs are there if you need more.
You set your own fee. When a family pays for classes through NXTutors, you receive 50% of the fee for home tuition in the first month and the full fee after that, and 70% of the fee for online tuition every month. Payments are held for 7 days, then paid out weekly. How you get paid.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more.
Often, yes. Teach from the textbooks JAC prescribes and practise on the council's own model papers from jac.jharkhand.gov.in. CBSE students need NCERT plus the board's sample papers and marking schemes, with more case-based and application questions.
Plotted colonies in Harmu, Argora & Ratu Road and the sector roads around Dhurwa are simple to reach and park in by two-wheeler. Near Lalpur Chowk parking is scarce, so tutors there often finish by auto or e-rickshaw.
Yes. Middle-school maths is a real need, because gaps left there surface in Class 9. List exactly the classes you take and families looking for that stage will see you.
Agree a narrow role: solve the leftover coaching questions, review test mistakes, and keep Class 12 board answers well presented. Do not run a second coaching course at home.
For senior classes, usually. Calculus, vectors and probability work well with a shared whiteboard, IB and IGCSE students in Ranchi tend to look online, and online keeps lessons going on event days at Morabadi or match days near Dhurwa.
Plainly and specifically: the boards, the classes, the chapters you enjoy teaching and the zones you cover. Avoid broad claims; a parent trusts a precise line more than a long list.
