Chemistry tutor jobs: home and online chemistry tuition through NXTutors

Chemistry is really three subjects sharing one textbook, and parents who ask for a chemistry tutor can usually tell you which of the three is hurting. One student cannot balance a redox equation, another has no feel for why a reaction mechanism goes the way it does, a third has learnt the periodic trends as a list and cannot apply them. On NXTutors those needs reach chemistry tutors as requests from families, and this page explains what that work looks like.

Already teaching with us? Log in to update your areas and hours.

It costs nothing to join or to set up your profile. You decide which classes, boards and branches of chemistry you take, where you travel, whether you also teach online and what you charge. The number of requests you see depends on your subjects, your location and what families ask for, so nothing here is a promise of students or earnings.

How you get tuition work on NXTutors

Six steps from applying to your first class. Swipe to see each step.

  1. Sign up with a one-time code

Use the Apply form on Become a tutor; it opens WhatsApp with your message, and the team sets up your account at no cost.

  2. Upload your ID; our team reviews it

Confirm with a one-time code, then add the chemistry you teach: physical, organic, inorganic, practicals, with classes, boards and fee per class.

  3. Your profile carries the Verified badge

Upload your government photo ID under Documents; the Verified badge follows only after our team has reviewed it.

  4. A family nearby sends a request

After approval, masked chemistry leads arrive showing class, need, area, timing and budget band, never contact details.

  5. Free demo; the family sees your fee first

Unlock a lead you can serve, then send one proposal with your hourly fee and up to three demo times.

  6. Teach at home, online or both

Teach the free demo on the student's current chapter: one mechanism or one titration calculation, worked through slowly.

Physical, organic or inorganic: where do students get stuck?

Physical chemistry is the arithmetic of the subject: the mole concept, stoichiometry, concentration terms, gas laws, thermodynamics, equilibrium, electrochemistry and kinetics. Students who are weak at ratios or logarithms struggle here first, and parents often describe it as 'chemistry numericals'. The fix is careful unit handling and a habit of writing what is given and what is asked before touching a formula.

Organic chemistry begins in Class 11 and quickly divides a class. Nomenclature, isomerism and the general idea of electron movement come first, followed by named reactions and conversions in Class 12. Students who try to memorise every reaction separately run out of room; those taught to see a small set of patterns, such as nucleophiles attacking electron-poor carbon, keep up.

Inorganic chemistry looks like pure recall: periodic properties, bonding, the s, p, d and f blocks, coordination compounds. Done well, it is about trends and exceptions with reasons.

Practical chemistry: titrations, salt analysis and the record

Practical work is a large part of what senior chemistry students ask about. In the CBSE senior secondary curriculum, the practical examination includes volumetric analysis, salt analysis to identify one cation and one anion in a given salt, a content-based experiment, project work and the class record with a viva. Students who have never been told why a particular group reagent is added, or why an end point looks the way it does, find salt analysis frightening.

Do not try to run wet chemistry in a family's home. Acids, flames and unknown salts belong in the school laboratory. What you can do at home or online is work through observation tables, the reasoning behind each confirmatory test, titration calculations and likely viva questions. ISC chemistry also includes practical work and a project, so the same approach serves CISCE students.

What each board asks of a chemistry tutor

For CBSE, NCERT is the reference and the board paper follows its wording closely, so a tutor who knows the NCERT text and its in-text questions saves a student a great deal of guesswork. ICSE expects precise, complete answers, with equations balanced and conditions stated.

Cambridge IGCSE Chemistry is offered at Core and Extended level, and each candidate takes either a practical test or an alternative-to-practical paper; questions on planning an experiment and handling data are common, and command words such as 'describe', 'explain' and 'suggest' matter. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Chemistry is a separate qualification with its own papers, so ask which one the student follows. IB Diploma chemistry is taken at SL or HL with an internally assessed scientific investigation; you may guide the method and the analysis, but the investigation must remain the student's own.

Is your background a good fit for chemistry tuition?

There is no fixed qualification you must hold to tutor chemistry through NXTutors. You need to be 18 or over and to keep your profile truthful. Families tend to respond to a chemistry degree, a pharmacy or chemical-engineering background, or years of teaching one board, and above all to tutors who know the past papers and marking well enough to say which steps earn credit.

Be specific on your profile. 'Class 11 and 12 CBSE chemistry with practical support', 'ICSE Class 10 chemistry', 'IGCSE Chemistry Extended' and 'NEET chemistry doubts' each tell a parent something. If you teach only organic, or only Classes 11 and 12, say so; the matching uses the class band and board you list, so a precise profile brings requests you can actually serve. Do not mention results or ranks you cannot prove.

How chemistry leads, credits and proposals work

When a family's request matches your subject, class band and board (board always counts for IB, IGCSE and ISC, and for Indian boards from Class 9), and your mode and travel areas suit it, you may be offered it as a lead. The card you see first is masked: the class, a short summary such as 'Class 12 organic conversions and salt analysis', the area or zone, timing, a budget band and why it fits you, with no name or phone number.

To see the full request you unlock it with credits. At the moment the cost ranges from 80 to 240 credits, set by how complete and serious the request looks and how urgently the family needs a tutor; the card shows the price first. Each tutor who unlocks sends one proposal: a message, a fee per hour and up to three demo times. Chat opens only when the family replies or shortlists you, never just because you pay for a plan.

Pricing chemistry tuition and what you receive

Your fee is yours to set, per class, and the family sees it before the free demo. Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. A chemistry fee usually moves with the class, the board, whether practical preparation is included, the travel involved, and whether the student is also preparing for NEET or JEE.

On the platform's current rules, set out in /tutor-terms, a home-tuition tutor receives 50% of the first month's fee and then the full fee from the second month, and an online tutor receives 70% every month. These are terms, not an income forecast. The fee you charge must match the one shown before the demo, the demo itself is never charged, and any change is agreed in advance for future classes only.

Getting started: free to join, plans optional

Start from /become-a-tutor: the Apply form writes a WhatsApp message, and the team replies to set up your account. Confirm with a one-time code at first login, fill in your chemistry classes, boards, fee per class, mode and travel areas, and upload your ID under Documents. Tutors who join go through an ID check: you confirm your phone or email with a one-time code and upload a government photo ID (Aadhaar, voter ID, passport or driving licence, front and back), which our team reviews. The Verified badge appears only after our team has reviewed the ID. This is not a police or background check; /how-we-verify-tutors explains it, and /safeguarding-policy covers teaching children, including communicating with the parent and never recording without consent.

The free plan gives 160 lead credits a month and, as they roll out, up to ten WhatsApp alerts a month for new leads where you are one of the five closest fits. Paid plans are optional subscriptions; prices are on /pricing, and payment never changes the ranking order for a request. Browse /tuition-jobs and city pages such as /tuition-jobs/mumbai, /tuition-jobs/hyderabad, /tuition-jobs/gurugram and /tuition-jobs/kota, and see /physics-tutor-jobs, /jee-neet-tutor-jobs, /ib-igcse-tutor-jobs and /science-tutor-jobs for related work.

Women tutors welcome

For women tutors: you set the terms

Women tutors are welcome on NXTutors, for home classes, online classes or both. You decide how, where and when you teach. These are the controls the product gives you, and the habits our safeguarding policy asks of tutors and families.

  • Choose home, online or hybrid teaching on your profile, and change it whenever you like.
  • List the areas you travel to: home requests come only from those areas.
  • Set your own days and timings; requests are matched to the hours you give.
  • Every match starts with a demo class, and our safeguarding policy asks the parent to be at home for it.
  • Teach where a parent or another adult is at home; in gated societies the family adds you to the gate or visitor register.
  • Keep messages with the parent or a family group, never a child's private chat.
  • Every tutor who joins goes through the same ID check. It confirms identity; it is not a police check.
  • Stop any time. If anything worries you, stop the classes and tell us on WhatsApp or through the contact page.

Read the safeguarding policy and how the ID check works.

Why tutors choose NXTutors

What is different from a directory listing or a tuition bureau.

  • You set your fee

Your fee per class is on your profile, and families see it before the demo, so there is no haggling after a good class.

  • Matched, nearest first

Each request goes to two or three tutors who fit it, nearest first, not to a long list of people chasing the same family.

  • Demo first

The first class is a free demo. Families decide after meeting you, not from a phone call or a price list.

  • No made-up leads

We never show invented requests. The only request details on these pages are real and anonymised, and only once there are three or more.

  • An ID check for everyone

Every tutor who joins goes through the same ID check. Real tutors who pass carry the Verified badge; sample profiles are always labelled.

  • AI-first, with real teachers

Parents can ask NXT AI about your profile and compare tutors side by side. The teaching is always yours.

Tutor plans and what each includes

Tutor plans are listed on our pricing page with what each one includes. Read them before you apply; we do not quote prices on this page. Tutors are independent: you set your own fee, and families pay you for the classes they take.

Questions from tutors

Can I teach only organic chemistry, or only Classes 11 and 12?

Yes. Describe that on your profile and list only the class band you want. Requests are matched on subject, class band and, where it matters, board, so a tutor who lists Classes 11 and 12 will not be offered a Class 8 request. Parents reading your profile will also see that you specialise, which helps them decide.

Will I be expected to run experiments at a student's home?

No, and please do not. Acids, heating and unknown salts belong in the school laboratory. At home or online you can teach the reasoning behind salt-analysis steps, titration calculations, observation tables and viva questions, which is usually what students need most before a practical examination.

Does joining NXTutors cost anything for a chemistry tutor?

No. Joining, onboarding and the free plan are free, and the free plan includes 160 lead credits a month. Paid plans are optional extras with more credits, AI tools and visibility in places labelled Featured; see /pricing. Whether you pay or not, the order in which tutors are ranked for a request stays the same.

What share of the fee do I keep?

Under the platform's current rules in /tutor-terms, home tuition gives you 50% of the first month's fee and the full fee from the second month; online tuition gives you 70% each month. Your actual income depends on your fee, the hours you teach and how many families choose you, so we do not quote typical totals.

How much does it cost to unlock a chemistry lead?

At present a lead costs between 80 and 240 credits, depending on how complete the request is and how quickly the family needs a tutor. The masked card shows the price before you unlock. If the lead is fake or duplicate, withdrawn, or your proposal is not opened within 72 hours, the credits come back.

Can I teach IGCSE or IB chemistry online from any city?

Yes. Choose online or both as your mode. Online requests are matched on subject, class and board rather than your location, so an IGCSE or IB chemistry specialist can teach families elsewhere in India. Agree a whiteboard or document camera with the family so structures and equations stay visible.
