Chemistry tutor jobs in Kolkata

Chemistry is the subject that follows a Kolkata science student into every exam hall. It is a compulsory elective in the Higher Secondary science set, half of WBJEE Paper II, which alone decides the Pharmacy Merit Rank, and a third of NEET's physical-science load. Families tend to hire a chemistry tutor once one branch, usually organic or physical numericals, has started to slip.

Who asks for chemistry tutors in Kolkata

In the WBCHSE semester system, chemistry follows the science pattern: 35 one-mark questions in each MCQ semester (I and III) and 35 marks of short and descriptive answers in each written semester (II and IV), 70 in theory per class. No calculator is allowed, so physical-chemistry arithmetic must be practised by hand, and the practical is examined at the student's own school and must be passed separately from theory. Bengali-medium students write with the textbook's Bengali terms, so practise in the exam's medium.

ISC Chemistry has CISCE's long Kolkata following and includes practical work and a project. CBSE Class 12 chemistry in 2026-27 gives organic 33 of 70 theory marks, physical 23 and inorganic 14, with electrochemistry the heaviest chapter at 9 marks; solid state and Groups 15 to 18 of the p-block have left the syllabus, and four topics are assessed only in school. Neither calculators nor log tables are allowed in the CBSE paper either.

WBJEE Paper II, in the 2026 bulletin, had 40 chemistry questions for 50 marks, with one-mark and two-mark single-answer questions carrying a quarter-value penalty and two-mark multiple-answer questions where any wrong option scores zero. The Pharmacy Merit Rank uses Paper II alone, so chemistry carries real weight for pharmacy aspirants. NEET (45 chemistry questions) and JEE Main (25) add their own marking, and NTA syllabi may include topics the boards have dropped.

CBSE is widely taken in Kolkata too, and its chemistry students form a steady share of senior requests alongside ISC and HS, often from families who want board precision first and NEET or JEE practice second.

Where in Kolkata the work is

Kasba & EM Bypass South is reached by the Orange Line along the bypass from Kavi Subhash to Beleghata, with Ballygunge Junction, Jadavpur and Baghajatin on the western edge; complexes near the bypass register visitors at the gate, so ask for a standing entry, while Patuli homes are found by block and plot number. Tollygunge, Jadavpur and Garia runs the length of the Blue Line, and weekend mornings are the calmest slot there.

Lake Town, Dum Dum & Baguiati is easy by train or metro at Dum Dum, though Baguiati has no station of its own and VIP Road carries airport traffic in the evening peak. New Town & Rajarhat is almost entirely gated complexes where the desk wants your name, phone, tower and flat before the first class; with the Orange Line stations there still under construction, online sessions help for subjects with few local tutors.

Many chemistry tutors in Kolkata keep organic mechanisms and numericals for a weekly home visit and run inorganic recall checks online, which keeps one cross-city trip a week manageable.

What families in Kolkata expect

  • Name your papers: HS Semesters I to IV, ISC, CBSE 043, IB, IGCSE, WBJEE Paper II, NEET or JEE.
  • Teach physical chemistry without a calculator, with units on every line.
  • Match HS chapters to MCQ or written semesters.
  • Prepare practicals and projects, which are assessed at school and passed separately in HS.
  • Teach WBJEE category strategy: mark only certain options in multiple-answer questions.
  • Check NTA's current syllabus before dropping any topic for NEET or JEE students.
  • Practise in the student's medium, Bengali or English.
  • Teach OMR habits for WBJEE: blue or black ballpoint, no changes once marked, no half-filled bubbles.

How to get picked

Your profile should read like a match for Kolkata's mix: "HS chemistry, all four semesters, Bengali and English medium, with WBJEE Paper II" or "ISC chemistry, organic focus". Add your metro line and the evenings you keep free after school and coaching.

At the demo, set one organic conversion, one hand-worked numerical and three one-mark questions in the student's next semester format. Show the parent where marks would leak and how you would fix them by the next exam. Leads, credits and how you get paid are explained in the modules below.

Use the calendar to plan with the parent. The MCQ semesters usually fall in September and the written ones in March, and WBJEE is usually between April and May, so a chemistry tutor can schedule inorganic and organic recall before September, long written answers and numericals through winter, and Paper II mocks in spring. If a student also sits NEET, the extra NCERT reading slots go in from the start of Class 11 rather than the final months.

Joining, leads and pay

Joining is free

Applying, onboarding, building your profile, the ID check and receiving matched requests on the Free plan cost nothing. The Free plan gives you 160 lead credits every month.

Paid plans are optional

Pro, Premium and Featured are optional platform subscriptions: more visibility, AI tools and more lead credits. They are never a fee to apply for a tuition. See tutor plans.

How leads and credits work

A family request that fits your subjects, classes, board, areas and hours reaches your dashboard. Opening the family's contact details uses lead credits, and the credit price is shown on the request before you open it. At most 5 tutors can open one request, and a request stays open for 7 days. Credit packs are there if you need more.

How you get paid

You set your own fee. When a family pays for classes through NXTutors, you receive 50% of the fee for home tuition in the first month and the full fee after that, and 70% of the fee for online tuition every month. Payments are held for 7 days, then paid out weekly. How you get paid.

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more.

Questions from tutors

How is HS chemistry examined?

In four semesters: 35 one-mark MCQs in Semesters I and III, and 35 marks of written answers in II and IV, 70 in theory per class. No calculator is allowed.

Why does chemistry matter for WBJEE pharmacy?

The Pharmacy Merit Rank uses Paper II alone, which is physics and chemistry. In 2026, chemistry was 40 questions for 50 marks. Confirm the current bulletin.

Do ISC chemistry families in Kolkata want tutors?

Yes. CISCE has a long and strong following here, and ISC chemistry includes practical work and a project.

Can I teach chemistry in Bengali?

If you can, say so. Bengali-medium HS students write with the textbook's Bengali terms and need practice in that medium.

Which zones suit a chemistry tutor on public transport?

Blue Line neighbourhoods from Tollygunge to Garia, Kasba on the Orange Line, Dum Dum and Salt Lake. New Town suits tutors already living there.

Can I take only weekend students?

Yes. List your hours. Weekend mornings are calmer on Kolkata roads and suit long organic and numerical sessions.
