Much of the zone grew after independence, as families from East Bengal built homes on what had been farmland and marsh; by 1949 there were about 40 refugee colonies in Jadavpur alone, including Bijoygarh. The housing shows that history: family houses along side lanes, compact apartment buildings on the main roads, and low-rise flats set among open grounds in Golf Green. Garia, split between Kolkata Municipal Corporation wards and the Rajpur Sonarpur Municipality, adds newer residential buildings, builder floors and plots.

The Blue Line is the zone's spine. Mahanayak Uttam Kumar serves Tollygunge; the extension to Garia Bazar (Kavi Nazrul), with Netaji, Masterda Surya Sen and Gitanjali, opened on 22 August 2009; and Shahid Khudiram followed with the extension to New Garia on 7 October 2010. After cracks were found in its supporting piers in July 2025, the Blue Line platforms at Kavi Subhash were closed and Blue Line trains terminate at Shahid Khudiram; the Orange Line still serves Kavi Subhash.

Jadavpur, Baghajatin and Garia also have suburban stations, Garia's being on the Sealdah South main line between New Garia and Narendrapur, and Tollygunge has a station on the Budge Budge line. Masterda Surya Sen serves Bansdroni and Gitanjali serves Naktala.

Requests in Kolkata come under ICSE and ISC, CBSE, the West Bengal Madhyamik and Higher Secondary, and a smaller share of IB or IGCSE. The zone research notes that online tutors help here for subjects or boards where the local pool is thin. Write your board, classes, subjects and teaching language plainly, so a parent comparing two or three profiles can see the fit.

NXTutors orders the list by distance: tutors living in the zone first, then those who travel in, then others in Kolkata, then online tutors. Families can switch tutor later at no cost, which matters when a new timetable in Class 10 or Class 12 changes their free evenings; a tutor whose hours are clearly listed is easier to keep. If you live anywhere on the Blue Line, adding the localities near your stations as travel areas is worthwhile.

The corridor shape also lets you stack lessons. A tutor living near Netaji or Masterda Surya Sen can teach one student in Bansdroni after school and another in Naktala or Garia later the same evening, moving between them by metro rather than along the main road. Writing your free evenings on your profile makes it easier for families to see that your week fits theirs, especially in the months before Madhyamik or Higher Secondary papers.

Homes are mostly family houses in the lanes, with straight-to-the-door visits. Bansdroni and Naktala are largely residential, with houses and small or mid-sized apartment buildings. Ask for the nearest station and a landmark when the family books; in Garia, ask which station they use, since Blue Line, Orange Line and suburban stations all serve different parts of it.

Golf Green's low-rise flats are spread among open grounds, so ask for the block or building number as well as the landmark.

What slows a lesson here is road traffic: the 8B crossing in Jadavpur at college and office hours, when the commercial hub around the bus terminus is busiest, and the main road between Tollygunge and Garia in the evening peak. Weekend mornings are the calmest slot, and a tutor on the metro keeps time better than one driving. Families in Bijoygarh or Sulekha may prefer a tutor who already lives on the same side of the crossing.
