"No calculator, ever." The West Bengal Higher Secondary council's FAQ gives that answer directly for accountancy and every other commerce subject, in every semester. Ledger totals, ratios, depreciation, costing sheets and statistics are all worked by hand. For a commerce tutor in Kolkata, that single rule shapes every lesson, and families notice tutors who build hand-calculation speed from the first month.

Accountancy teachers, chartered accountancy students and economics graduates can join NXTutors free, set their own fee and choose home, online or both. This page covers Kolkata's commerce papers, where students live and what helps a family choose you.
WBCHSE does not label streams; a commerce student takes two languages and electives from Set II. The compulsory electives come from Accountancy, Business Studies, Costing and Taxation, Economics or another listed option, Commercial Law and Preliminaries of Auditing or Statistics, and Business Mathematics and Basic Statistics or Mathematics, with an optional elective. The course runs in four semesters: the school holds Semesters I and II in Class 11 and the council holds III and IV in Class 12. Semesters I and III are multiple-choice; II and IV are written. A student must clear Semesters I and II before moving to III, and must pass theory and practical separately.
ISC commerce students take Accounts, Commerce and Economics, with Mathematics or another elective if chosen and English compulsory; each subject has project work, often two per subject, so families ask how far those projects have progressed. CBSE students take Accountancy, Business Studies and Economics with Mathematics or Applied Mathematics and English, plus project or practical work. Kolkata's CISCE following means ISC accounts work is a steady part of commerce tuition here.
Families need a tutor who knows the student's exact combination and medium. Costing and Taxation, for instance, is a Set II subject many tutors from other boards have not taught, and Commercial Law and Preliminaries of Auditing is a written subject that rewards clear points. Tell families honestly which you cover.
Commerce students often have long school days, so evenings and weekends carry most sessions. Behala & New Alipore is reached by the Purple Line from Joka through Behala Chowrasta to Majerhat, with a short auto at the end; Diamond Harbour Road is slow in the evening peak for anyone coming by road, so a road trip suits afternoons or weekend mornings. North Kolkata is Blue Line country, where the last steps are often on foot through narrow lanes to a family house at street level.
Howrah is now reached by the Green Line to Howrah and Howrah Maidan, and ferries cross from the Golabari and Bandhaghat ghats; Santragachi's gated complexes have gate rules to share in advance. Lake Town, Dum Dum & Baguiati is easy at Dum Dum by metro or train, but Baguiati addresses spread over several sub-localities off VIP Road, so ask for an exact landmark.
Accountancy is usually better taught at home, where the tutor can see the format and the hand-worked totals. Theory subjects and economics diagrams can be marked online from photographs, so a theory specialist across the city can still help.
Kolkata families respond to tutors who name the exact subjects. Write "HS Accountancy and Costing and Taxation, all four semesters, by hand" or "ISC Accounts and Commerce, project guidance". Add your medium and metro line. If you prepare students for the MCQ semesters with quick recall sets, mention it; many tutors do not.
At the demo, set one accounts problem to be solved without a calculator and one short theory answer from the student's syllabus. Show the parent where time and marks were lost, and suggest whether one tutor or a split would suit the coming semester. Leads, credits and how you get paid are in the modules below.
Use the calendar in your pitch. In the council's normal schedule the MCQ semesters fall in September and the written ones in March, and the Puja holidays sit between them. A commerce tutor who drills quick recall of definitions, formats and adjustments before September, then moves to full hand-worked accounts and long theory answers through winter, shows a parent exactly how the year will run. Students who arrive from ICSE or CBSE in Class 11 also need early practice with multiple-choice recall, since Semester I is all one-mark questions.
Some Class 12 families mention CA or CUET too. Keep the semester papers secure first, then add timed objective practice, and take every rule for those exams only from the conducting bodies' own sites.
Applying, onboarding, building your profile, the ID check and receiving matched requests on the Free plan cost nothing. The Free plan gives you 160 lead credits every month.
Pro, Premium and Featured are optional platform subscriptions: more visibility, AI tools and more lead credits. They are never a fee to apply for a tuition. See tutor plans.
A family request that fits your subjects, classes, board, areas and hours reaches your dashboard. Opening the family's contact details uses lead credits, and the credit price is shown on the request before you open it. At most 5 tutors can open one request, and a request stays open for 7 days. Credit packs are there if you need more.
You set your own fee. When a family pays for classes through NXTutors, you receive 50% of the fee for home tuition in the first month and the full fee after that, and 70% of the fee for online tuition every month. Payments are held for 7 days, then paid out weekly. How you get paid.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more.
No. The council's FAQ says no calculator is allowed in any semester examination, accountancy included.
A Set II elective in WBCHSE's commerce choices. If you teach it, list it explicitly; it is less familiar to tutors from other boards.
Semesters I and II in Class 11 are held by the school; III and IV in Class 12 by the council. I and III are multiple-choice, II and IV written.
CISCE has a long and strong following here, so ISC Accounts, Commerce and Economics are regular requests, often with project support.
Those you can reach in the evening. Blue, Green and Purple Line neighbourhoods are easiest; Baguiati and New Town suit tutors living nearby.
Read the board's published rules first; WBBSE's calendar repeats a state rule that teachers at recognised schools must not take private tuition for personal gain.
