Tutors who join go through an ID check. Tell us the class, board and your area: we share two or three matched tutors, each with their fee, and the first class is a free demo, at home or online.
Book a free demo classAcross NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

A commerce student in Kolkata may be on the West Bengal Higher Secondary course, ISC or CBSE, and the three look alike only from a distance. The Higher Secondary commerce set includes papers such as Costing and Taxation and Commercial Law and Preliminaries of Auditing that the other boards do not offer in that form; ISC and CBSE have their own accountancy, commerce and economics papers. Add the council's rule that no calculator may be used in any semester exam, and the case for planning the whole stream, not one subject at a time, becomes clear. This guide from the NXTutors Academic Team covers the subjects on each board, how a tutor should approach them, whether to use one tutor or two, how CUET and CA Foundation fit, and how to find a tutor who can reach your neighbourhood.
| Board | Commerce subjects | Tell the tutor |
|---|---|---|
| WBCHSE Higher Secondary (Set II) | Three compulsory electives and an optional one from: Accountancy; Business Studies; Commercial Law and Preliminaries of Auditing or Statistics; Costing and Taxation; Economics or another listed option; Business Mathematics and Basic Statistics or Mathematics; plus a computer, environment or arts option; two languages | Your exact combination, the medium, and which semester comes next |
| ISC (CISCE) | Accounts, Commerce and Economics, with Mathematics or another elective if chosen; English compulsory | Which electives, and how far the two projects per subject have progressed |
| CBSE | Accountancy, Business Studies, Economics, with Mathematics or Applied Mathematics (one only); English | Maths or Applied Maths, and the project or practical work due |
For subject depth, see our accountancy and economics tutor pages for Kolkata, and the West Bengal board guide for Kolkata.
The West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education runs the course in four semesters: the school holds Semesters I and II in Class 11, and the council holds Semesters III and IV in Class 12. Semesters I and III are multiple-choice; the others are written. Three features shape commerce tuition in particular:
The pass rule also matters: 30% in five subjects, the two languages and any three electives, in theory and project or practical separately. A weak language can undo strong accounts, so do not leave it out of the plan.
| Arrangement | Suits | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| One tutor for accountancy and the related papers (costing, business studies) | Students who are steady in economics and maths | Theory papers getting squeezed by accounts |
| One for accounts, one for economics and statistics or maths | Students weak in the numerical side of economics | Two timetables; coordinate test weeks |
| Accounts at home, economics or law online | Families where the specialist lives far away | The online tutor must see written formats live |
| Short-term help for one paper only | A single weak subject before a semester | Starting too late to change habits |
A tutor who marks every working note and every heading, not just the final figure, fixes most of these within a term.
The balance shifts across the year. Before a multiple-choice semester, more of the session goes to quick recall of definitions, formats and provisions; before a written one, to full-length answers and presentation. What should not change is that the student does the writing and the tutor does the checking. A session in which the tutor solves problems on the board while the student watches feels productive and rarely moves the marks.
Some commerce students also plan for an entrance test or a professional course. Keep the facts official:
| Zone | Route | When |
|---|---|---|
| North Kolkata | Belgachia or Shyambazar on the Blue Line | Evening, after the Jessore Road peak |
| Tollygunge, Jadavpur & Garia | Blue Line to Mahanayak Uttam Kumar or Masterda Surya Sen | Weekday afternoons or weekend mornings |
| Ballygunge, Gariahat & Alipore | Kalighat or Jatin Das Park on the Blue Line | Weekday evenings near the temple lanes |
| Kasba & EM Bypass South | Jyotirindra Nandi or Satyajit Ray on the Orange Line | Afternoon or weekend near the hospitals and junctions |
| Howrah | Green Line to Howrah Maidan, or Shalimar for Shibpur | Allow a margin on GT Road and the Kona Expressway |
| Salt Lake | Green Line to Karunamoyee or Central Park | After the Sector V rush |
Belgachia, open to the Blue Line since 1984, is easy to reach from Dum Dum and Shyambazar. In Golf Green, a caretaker or the family usually lets the tutor in. Kalighat has its own Blue Line station, though festival days crowd the temple lanes. Bansdroni is almost all homes, near Masterda Surya Sen station. Mukundapur complexes register visitors at the gate, and in Shibpur the Green Line under the river has widened the pool of tutors who can come.
Accounts benefit from a tutor who can see the whole page: the journal, the ledger, the working notes. That favours home lessons, or online lessons with a writing tablet or a camera over the notebook. Theory papers such as business studies, law and economics work well online. For a Higher Secondary student, a specialist for Costing and Taxation or Commercial Law may live across the city, and online is often the only practical way to reach them. See online tutors for Kolkata students.
The demo with the tutor you choose is free, and you can switch tutor later at no cost. Tutors who join go through an ID check before their profile is marked Verified; it is not a police or background check.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. For commerce, the number of papers, the board, the tutor's experience with your exact subjects and the journey set the fee. You see each shortlisted fee before the demo. The council's Set II includes Accountancy, Business Studies, Commercial Law and Preliminaries of Auditing or Statistics, Costing and Taxation, Economics or another listed option, and Business Mathematics and Basic Statistics or Mathematics. Students pick three compulsory electives and an optional one from the set, plus two languages. Confirm your combination with the school.
No. The council's examination FAQ says no calculator is allowed in any examination under the semester system, and it answers the question for accountancy and the other commerce subjects specifically. A tutor should build fast, accurate hand calculation into every accounts, costing and statistics session from the start of Class 11.
Sometimes. One tutor can cover accountancy and closely related papers if economics and maths are steady. If economics, statistics or a paper such as Commercial Law is weak too, a second specialist usually helps more. Coordinate the two timetables around semester or term tests so the week does not overflow.
Yes. For ISC, we match tutors who know the Accounts, Commerce and Economics papers and their two projects per subject. For CBSE, tutors who teach Accountancy, Business Studies and Economics and know the project work. Tell us whether your child takes Mathematics or Applied Mathematics as well.
If the target universities use CUET, yes, but from the same chapters. NTA's CUET domain tests in Accountancy and Economics have 50 compulsory questions in 60 minutes on the NCERT Class 12 syllabus, so Higher Secondary and ISC students should check which topics differ from their own books.
Theory papers such as business studies, law and economics work well online. Accounts need the tutor to see the whole page, so use a writing tablet or a camera over the notebook. For a scarce Higher Secondary paper, such as Costing and Taxation, an online specialist may be the only practical choice.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour, and Classes 11 and 12 sit toward the upper end. The number of papers, the board, the tutor's experience with your subjects and travel set the fee. Each shortlisted fee is shown before the free demo class.
