What home tuition costs in Kolkata

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.

Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

Physics home tutor in Kolkata: board year, entrance year, or both in the same year

A Kolkata student in Class 12 physics might be writing an ISC paper, a CBSE paper or the West Bengal Higher Secondary, and may be sitting JEE or NEET a few weeks later. The same chapters appear everywhere, yet each exam scores them in its own way, and evenings are already shared between school, coaching and the journey home by metro or train. NXTutors sends two or three physics tutors who know your child's exam and can reach your neighbourhood at the hour that is actually free. Fees are listed on the shortlist, and your opening lesson is a free demo.

Which exam should the physics sessions be built around?

Name the main target before the first lesson. It decides what the tutor sets every week, even when the chapter is the same:

Physics exams Kolkata students in Classes 11 and 12 prepare for, the format of each, and the practice it calls for
ExamFormatPractice it calls for
ISC Class 12 (CISCE)Theory paper with practical and project workFull written reasoning and numericals set out step by step
CBSE Class 12 (042)70-mark theory paper, 33 compulsory questions, no calculator; 30 practical marksDerivations, labelled diagrams and case-based reading
West Bengal Higher Secondary (WBCHSE)Set by the state council; its official notices give the schemeThe prescribed textbook and the council's own papers
JEE Main, 2026 patternIn 2026 Paper 1 gave physics 25 of its 75 questions (20 multiple-choice, 5 numerical-value), marked +4 and −1Speed on multi-step problems and careful mock-test review
JEE AdvancedIn 2026, only the 2,50,000 highest-ranked JEE Main candidates could sit itProblems joining several ideas, from past Advanced papers
NEET (UG), 2026 patternA written paper; in 2026 physics supplied 45 of the 180 questions, worth 180 of the 720 marks, with +4 and −1Accuracy on NCERT concepts and fewer risky guesses

NTA, not the school board, publishes the entrance syllabi, and they can keep topics a board has removed, so read the current bulletin at nta.ac.in before dropping anything. For priorities by chapter, read our topic-wise JEE physics plan and the NEET physics chapters that repay most effort; for the bigger decision, see JEE coaching compared with a home tutor.

How is the CBSE Class 12 physics theory paper divided?

Fourteen NCERT chapters are grouped into four blocks of marks. Electricity and magnetism, running from electrostatics to alternating current, is worth 33 of the 70, nearly half. Optics together with electromagnetic waves adds 18, the largest single block. Dual nature, atoms and nuclei bring 12, mostly as short numericals, and semiconductor electronics brings 7. Notes that still cover transistors or logic gates are out of date, because both have been removed.

The 2026-27 sample paper follows last session's design. Section A has 16 one-mark items (12 multiple-choice, 4 assertion–reason), Section B five two-mark questions, Section C seven of three marks, Section D a pair of case studies at four marks each and Section E three long answers at five. Recall earns only around 38% of the marks, which is why dictated notes alone leave a student short. Constants are printed on the paper and calculators are not allowed. There is one main Class 12 board exam, and the 2027 date sheet will appear on cbse.gov.in. Our Class 12 physics strategies list the derivations that keep returning, and the Class 12 physics tutor page maps the year.

Where do the 30 CBSE practical marks come from?

CBSE Class 12 physics practical marks and how a tutor can help at home with each part
ComponentMarksHelp a tutor can give at home
Two experiments, one from each section7 + 7Aim, circuit or ray diagram, and a clean observation table rehearsed on paper
Practical record5A check that it holds at least eight experiments and six activities, split evenly by section, plus the project report
One activity3What is being shown, and how the result is recorded
Investigatory project3A manageable question the student can answer alone
Viva on all of the above5Mock questions such as why several readings are taken and what the slope of a graph means

The equipment stays in the school laboratory, but sources of error, precautions and the reasoning behind each reading can all be prepared at a table at home.

If your child already attends coaching, what should a home tutor add?

Coaching sets a fast pace for a large room; a home tutor works on the one student's gaps. The two fit well when the tutor's week is built around what coaching leaves behind:

  1. The unsolved list. Each session opens with the coaching sheet problems your child could not finish, worked slowly with a diagram first.
  2. The board answer. One derivation or long answer written out in full, as ISC or CBSE examiners expect, so board marks are not traded for speed.
  3. The test review. After every mock, the tutor sorts lost marks into concept, algebra, units or misreading, and sets work for the largest group.

Have your child's two most recent test papers ready at the free demo. A good tutor studies them and explains where marks are leaking before starting any new topic.

Can a tutor keep a late physics slot in your part of Kolkata?

Senior students often get home after coaching, so physics lessons start late, and the route decides whether a tutor can keep that hour. Six neighbourhoods across the city show the range; find tutors by locality on our Kolkata page.

South-central and south: two Blue Line neighbourhoods

Bhowanipore has three Blue Line stations, Rabindra Sadan, Netaji Bhavan and Jatin Das Park, so a tutor from Tollygunge, Garia or north Kolkata can arrive by metro and walk. Office traffic on the main roads peaks on weekday evenings, so an early-evening slot holds better. Tollygunge, home to the Bengali film industry, has older family houses in the lanes and apartment buildings on the main roads, three Blue Line stations and a stop on the Budge Budge line.

The southern bypass and New Town: planned layouts

Patuli is a planned township of serviced plots and group housing on both sides of the bypass connector, near Blue Line stations at its Garia end and the Orange Line's southern terminus. Plot houses mean a doorstep visit. In New Town Action Area II, most families live in gated complexes around Eco Park; the Orange Line station there is still being built, so tutors come by bus, cab or auto, and the security desk should have the tutor's name and phone number in advance.

VIP Road and Howrah: no metro at the door

Baguiati has no metro station yet; tutors take the Blue Line to Belgachia or the Green Line to Salt Lake and finish by bus or auto along VIP Road. Addresses spread across sub-localities such as Deshbandhu Nagar and Jyangra, so give a landmark. Santragachi in Howrah is mostly flats in complexes that log visitors, with a junction on the South Eastern Railway; the Kona Expressway is busy at office hours, so allow a margin.

When coaching runs late, switching one of the week's lessons to an online call with the same tutor keeps the plan going and spares a late crossing of the city.

What should ISC, IB and IGCSE physics families check?

  • ISC. CISCE assesses theory together with practical and project work, and answers are expected to explain more than a one-line reason. Confirm the tutor has taught your exam year's syllabus. Our ISC Class 12 physics tips cover the board approach.
  • IB Diploma. The current physics guide, examined for the first time in May 2025, is arranged as themes A to E; options and Paper 3 no longer exist. Recommended teaching time is 150 hours for SL and 240 for HL, with 80% from two papers and 20% from a scientific investigation. The investigation is the student's own. See our IB physics SL and HL guide.
  • Cambridge IGCSE. Entry is at Core or Extended tier. A student who then joins ISC or CBSE Class 11 usually benefits from extra early practice with vectors, graph work and derivations.

Tutors for these three courses are scarcer than CBSE tutors, so mention the course in your first message. When none can come to you, an online specialist can teach while a local tutor marks the written work.

Why start physics tuition in Class 11?

Beginning in Class 11 usually costs less in the long run. Within months the course passes from measurement and kinematics to the laws of motion, work and energy, rotation and gravitation, and it expects ease with vectors, graphs and rates of change, occasionally before the maths class has taught them. In Class 12 those same tools reappear with charges and fields in place of masses. If resolving components, reading slopes and finding areas under curves are automatic by the first term's end, the board year needs far less repair. For stream decisions, see our guide to choosing a Class 11 stream; the Class 11 physics tutor page lists the chapters, and our national physics home tutor page describes how we work everywhere.

How much does a physics home tutor in Kolkata cost?

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors name their own fees, which depend on the exam (a board paper, JEE Main or JEE Advanced), the tutor's experience with it, the late trip to your neighbourhood and the sessions booked each week. The same tutor may charge less online. You see every fee before the demo.

How do you arrange a physics demo in Kolkata?

Tell us the class and board, whether JEE or NEET is also in the plan, your neighbourhood with a landmark, and the evenings left after school and coaching. Two or three matched physics tutors come back to you with their fees; pick one, and the first class is a free demo. A poor fit means another demo with the next tutor, and a later switch costs nothing either. If nobody suitable can come at your hour, we propose online or mixed lessons. NXTutors works from Sector 66, Gurugram, and runs online lessons for students all over India.

Physics teachers based in Kolkata or Howrah will find current student requests on the Kolkata tuition jobs page.

Physics Home Tutor in Kolkata: common questions

What does a physics home tutor in Kolkata charge per hour?

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. For physics in Kolkata, the exam, the tutor's experience with it, the late trip to your area and weekly sessions move the fee. The same tutor may charge less online.

How do I arrange a physics home tutor and demo in Kolkata?

To arrange a physics home tutor in Kolkata, send the class, board, any JEE or NEET plan, your neighbourhood and free evenings. We send two or three matched physics tutors, each fee shown before the first class. The first class is a free demo, and switching tutor later is free.

Can I find an ISC physics home tutor in Kolkata?

Yes, you can find an ISC physics home tutor in Kolkata who has taught the CISCE syllabus for your exam year, including practical and project work. ISC expects full written reasoning, not one-line answers. These tutors are fewer than CBSE ones, so name ISC in your request; online may widen the choice.

How are the 70 CBSE Class 12 physics theory marks shared across blocks for Kolkata students?

For Kolkata students, electricity and magnetism carries the most CBSE Class 12 physics marks, 33 of the 70 theory marks. Optics with electromagnetic waves adds 18, dual nature, atoms and nuclei 12, and semiconductor electronics 7. Transistors and logic gates are no longer in the syllabus.

Which parts of the CBSE physics practical and viva can a Kolkata student rehearse at home?

A Kolkata home tutor helps with the 30 CBSE physics practical marks by rehearsing aims, diagrams and observation tables, checking the practical record and preparing viva answers. Two experiments carry 7 marks each, the record 5, an activity 3, the project 3 and the viva 5. Equipment stays at school.

What should a Kolkata physics home tutor add to JEE or NEET coaching?

A Kolkata physics home tutor should add to JEE or NEET coaching by working through unsolved coaching problems and one board-style long answer each session. Every mock should be reviewed by why marks were lost. The two should not repeat the same material.

Can a Kolkata physics tutor teach the West Bengal Higher Secondary course?

Yes, a Kolkata physics tutor can teach the West Bengal Higher Secondary course from the prescribed textbook, following the council's own notices for the exam scheme. We describe that paper only in general terms. Ask at the demo how the tutor combines it with JEE or NEET practice.

Can a physics tutor reach New Town or Baguiati for a late lesson?

A physics tutor can usually reach New Town or Baguiati for a late lesson, though neither has a working metro station yet. Tutors come by bus, cab or auto after the Green Line or Blue Line. Give the complex desk the tutor's name in advance, and switch one weekly lesson online when coaching runs late.

When coaching runs late in Kolkata, should Class 12 physics move online?

For a Kolkata Class 12 student, home physics tuition helps most with derivations, diagrams and long answers, while online keeps lessons going when coaching runs late. ISC, IB and IGCSE physics tutors are scarcer than CBSE ones, so an online specialist can teach while a local tutor marks written work.

Why is Class 11 the cheaper point to begin physics tuition for a Kolkata student?

A Kolkata student should start physics tuition in Class 11 because the course moves fast through kinematics, laws of motion, rotation and gravitation, relying on vectors and graphs. Class 12 reuses those tools with charges and fields. Making them automatic by the first term's end saves repair work in the board year.

Do Kolkata IB physics students still sit options and Paper 3?

No, IB Diploma physics for Kolkata students now follows a guide first examined in 2025, arranged as themes A to E, with the old options and Paper 3 gone. Two papers carry 80% and a scientific investigation 20%. The investigation must be the student's own work, so check that books are current.
