Within Howrah, Santragachi Junction, one of the five intercity railway junctions of Howrah-Kolkata on the South Eastern Railway, and the South Eastern suburban trains serve the western side. Liluah and Tikiapara serve Salkia, and Shalimar is near Shibpur. Shibpur is served by the Grand Trunk Road and Andul Road, Foreshore Road and the Kona Expressway.

Families across the Kolkata area follow ICSE and ISC, CBSE, the West Bengal Madhyamik and Higher Secondary, and some IB or IGCSE, with the teaching language mattering as much as the board. In Salkia and old Shibpur, there is usually no gate, but the lanes are dense and narrow, so ask for an exact lane landmark. That lets you find the door on foot or by rickshaw without losing lesson time.

The Kona Expressway and Grand Trunk Road slow down at office hours, so leave some margin around a weekday evening lesson. Market streets around Salkia's bazaar get crowded in the evening, which makes an earlier slot easier there. A tutor who crosses the river by metro avoids the bridges' road traffic, but should allow for the auto or rickshaw leg on the Howrah side.
