Now taking on home, online and hybrid tutors · in Ballygunge, Gariahat & Alipore, Kolkata
Few parts of Kolkata offer a tutor as many ways in as the settled middle of South Kolkata. Blue Line stations cover the western half, suburban stations serve the east and south, and the Orange Line sits across the railway on the bypass side. That reach means a tutor living almost anywhere along those lines can treat this zone as within range, which also means families here often have several nearby tutors to compare.
No open home-tuition requests in Ballygunge, Gariahat & Alipore right now. New family requests appear here as they come in; add Ballygunge, Gariahat & Alipore to your travel areas so they can reach you.
The zone takes in Ballygunge and the Gariahat crossing, Bhowanipore just below the Maidan, the temple lanes of Kalighat, Alipore with its bungalows and government land, and the quieter residential streets of Dhakuria, Jodhpur Park and Lake Gardens. Homes are mostly long-lived-in family addresses rather than new towers. Large mansions were built in Ballygunge in the 1930s and 1940s as families moved south from north Calcutta, and old houses, some shared by several generations, stand beside small apartment buildings. In 1947 a co-operative housing society sub-divided the Jodhpur Park land into about 450 residential plots, and its regular plotted streets are among the easiest in the city for a new tutor to find. Gariahat Market, across Rashbehari Avenue, Gariahat Road and nearby lanes, is one of the largest and busiest markets in Kolkata.
The first stretch of the Blue Line, from Esplanade to Bhowanipore (Netaji Bhavan) with Rabindra Sadan among its stations, opened on 24 October 1984, and the section to Tollygunge, with Jatin Das Park, Kalighat and Rabindra Sarobar, followed on 29 April 1986. Rabindra Sadan, Netaji Bhavan and Jatin Das Park cover Bhowanipore, and Kalighat serves the temple area.
On the rail side, Ballygunge Junction is an interchange on the Sealdah South suburban lines, with Park Circus, Dhakuria and Lake Gardens on the same network. Alipore is served by Majerhat and Kidderpore on the Circular section. The Orange Line stations at Kavi Sukanta and Hemanta Mukhopadhyay lie across the railway on the bypass side.
Boards here follow the city pattern: ICSE and ISC, CBSE, the West Bengal Madhyamik and Higher Secondary, and some IB or IGCSE. Higher Secondary now follows a semester pattern, with MCQ papers in Semesters I and III, and no calculator is allowed in any semester examination; a tutor who knows those rules can explain them at the demo. Name your boards, classes and teaching language on your profile.
The list for a request from Ballygunge, Lake Gardens or any other part of the zone starts with tutors based here, moves to those who say they travel here, and then widens to Kolkata as a whole and to online tutors. That order matters most for older students with long days, since a nearby tutor can take a later slot without a tiring journey. Families can also combine home lessons for core subjects with online sessions for a specialist subject taught from elsewhere.
Older houses need the right floor and bell, so ask the family for both. Jodhpur Park and Lake Gardens are mainly independent houses and small apartment buildings where you go straight to the door. In Alipore, larger homes and apartment buildings more often have a staffed gate, so the family should share your name and arrival time in advance.
Because tutors can reach this zone so easily, families here often compare several. Small things help you stand out: arriving on time from the station you named, knowing which floor and bell to use without a second call, and keeping messages about timings with the parent. In buildings with a staffed gate, ask for a standing entry once the regular days are fixed, so the guard is not stopping you every week.
The pinch points are the Gariahat crossing on weekend evenings and before Durga Puja, office-hour roads through Bhowanipore, and Diamond Harbour Road near Alipore in the evening peak. Streets near the Kalighat temple are crowded on festival days and weekends, so a weekday evening lesson is usually easier there. Roads near the lake fill in the evening peak, so leave a little margin either side. In Puja weeks, a weekday afternoon or an online session keeps the routine going.

A family request that fits your subjects, classes, board, areas and hours reaches your dashboard. Opening the family's contact details uses lead credits, and the credit price is shown on the request before you open it. At most 5 tutors can open one request, and a request stays open for 7 days. Credit packs are there if you need more.
You set your own fee. When a family pays for classes through NXTutors, you receive 50% of the fee for home tuition in the first month and the full fee after that, and 70% of the fee for online tuition every month. Payments are held for 7 days, then paid out weekly. How you get paid.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more.
Rabindra Sadan, Netaji Bhavan and Jatin Das Park for Bhowanipore, and Kalighat for the temple area, all on the Blue Line. Walk or take a rickshaw for the last stretch.
Via Kalighat or Jatin Das Park on the Blue Line, or Majerhat and Kidderpore on the Circular section. An earlier slot avoids the evening rush on Diamond Harbour Road.
Usually. Both are mainly residential, Rabindra Sarobar and the Dhakuria and Lake Gardens stations are close, and you go straight to the door. Leave a margin for the evening peak near the lake.

Yes. Many families here mix the two, often a nearby home tutor for core subjects and an online tutor for a specialist one. Tick the modes you teach on your profile so you are matched for the right kind of request, and agree the pattern with the parent after the demo.
