Now taking on home, online and hybrid tutors · in North Kolkata, Kolkata
Public transport beats a car in North Kolkata. The lanes are narrow, parking is hard, and the last steps to a student's door are often on foot or by rickshaw from a Blue Line station. For a tutor who lives a station or two away along that line, the old riverside and market neighbourhoods north of the centre are some of the simplest homes in the city to visit: nearly every lesson is at a street-level door rather than a gated complex.
No open home-tuition requests in North Kolkata right now. New family requests appear here as they come in; add North Kolkata to your travel areas so they can reach you.
NXTutors groups Shyambazar, Bagbazar, Sovabazar, Maniktala, Belgachia and Sinthee in this zone. Housing here is the oldest on the city's tutor map: family houses with verandahs and latticework along narrow lanes, heritage mansions in Sovabazar, and plots that have been rebuilt as small apartment buildings. Maniktala, amalgamated with the city under the 1923 Calcutta Municipal Act along with Cossipore and Chitpur, and Belgachia add more flats in mid-size buildings, and Sinthee is mostly apartments near Barrackpore Trunk Road. Sovabazar's family mansion Durga Puja celebrations date from 1757.
The Blue Line's first section opened on 24 October 1984; Shyambazar and Sovabazar Sutanuti stations opened on 15 February 1995 and Girish Park on 19 February 1995, and Belgachia has had its own station since 1984. Dakshineswar and Baranagar stations extended the line north on 22 February 2021. For Sinthee, Dum Dum metro and Dum Dum Junction are nearest, with an auto from there or from Sinthee More on Barrackpore Trunk Road.
The Circular Railway's Bagbazar–Prinsep Ghat line opened to passengers on 15 August 1984 and reached Dum Dum by June 1990; its north Kolkata stops include Bagbazar and Sovabazar Ahiritola. Sealdah on the Green Line and Girish Park on the Blue Line suit Maniktala, ferries reach Bagbazar Ghat, and buses run along the old Chitpur Road.
Families here, as across Kolkata, follow ICSE and ISC, CBSE, the West Bengal Madhyamik and Higher Secondary, and some IB or IGCSE, and the teaching language, Bengali or English, matters as much as the board. If you also teach at a WBBSE-recognised school, read the board's published rules on private tuition by its teachers before taking students. The zone research notes that online tutors help families here for advanced or specialist subjects.
NXTutors puts tutors from the zone first, then tutors who have said they travel to North Kolkata, then the rest of the city, then online tutors. Two or three reach the family. Families are often matched with tutors who live a station or two away along the Blue Line, so if you live near Dum Dum, Belgachia or Girish Park, these localities are natural travel areas.
For Higher Secondary students, the council's semester pattern has MCQ papers in Semesters I and III and allows no calculator in any semester examination, while Madhyamik students take the board's papers at Class 10. A tutor who can explain at the free demo how they handle each, and who lives within a short metro ride, gives a North Kolkata family two clear reasons to choose them from a shortlist of two or three.
Most visits are to a family house or small building at street level with no gate formality. What you need is the lane, the house number and a landmark, since a car often struggles with the last lanes and you will usually walk or take a rickshaw. In older houses, ask which floor and which entrance, as several households may share one building.
School and office hours crowd the Shyambazar five-point crossing, where Barrackpore Trunk Road and other main roads meet, and the market roads. Mid-afternoon or later evening lessons are usually easier. Puja season fills the heritage lanes of Sovabazar and Bagbazar with visitors; for those weeks, move lessons earlier in the day or switch to online sessions, then return to home lessons once the lanes clear. Families may also want extra sessions in the months before board exams, so list the hours you keep free.

A family request that fits your subjects, classes, board, areas and hours reaches your dashboard. Opening the family's contact details uses lead credits, and the credit price is shown on the request before you open it. At most 5 tutors can open one request, and a request stays open for 7 days. Credit packs are there if you need more.
You set your own fee. When a family pays for classes through NXTutors, you receive 50% of the fee for home tuition in the first month and the full fee after that, and 70% of the fee for online tuition every month. Payments are held for 7 days, then paid out weekly. How you get paid.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more.
