Tutoring in Pune: what to know

Pune has seven zones on NXTutors, and they span two cities: Pune itself and Pimpri-Chinchwad to the north-west. The settled west bank of the Mutha, from Kothrud and Karve Nagar to Deccan and Model Colony, mixes older bungalows on leafy lanes with societies that have replaced many older blocks. The IT suburbs, Aundh, Baner, Wakad, Hinjewadi, Kharadi and Wagholi, are almost entirely gated societies and townships, while the old cantonment around Camp and Koregaon Park still has British-era bungalows and army areas with entry rules of their own. South Pune, from Katraj to Sinhagad Road, mixes independent houses, builder floors and societies.

The metro is useful but uneven. The Aqua Line runs from Vanaz through Deccan Gymkhana and District Court to Ramwadi beside Viman Nagar, and the Purple Line links PCMC Bhavan in Pimpri with Swargate, the two meeting at District Court. Aundh, Baner, Hinjewadi, Wakad, Kharadi, Wagholi, the Hadapsar belt and Sinhagad Road had no open station at the time of writing, so most tutors there travel by two-wheeler, usually from the next suburb. Paud Road, Baner Road, Nagar Road, the bypass near Hinjewadi, NIBM Road and Satara Road are the routes to time around at school and office hours.

Many students across Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad sit the Maharashtra State Board's SSC in Class 10 and HSC in Class 12, and the city falls under the board's Pune Divisional Board. CBSE, ICSE and ISC are widely followed too, and a smaller group take the IB Diploma or Cambridge IGCSE. Maharashtra's own entrance test, MHT-CET, matters to many State Board students in Classes 11 and 12. A tutor in the room helps younger children and subjects where the working counts, such as Maths and Chemistry numericals, while online lessons open up IB, IGCSE and specialist papers across the city's spread-out suburbs.

How you get tuition work on NXTutors

Six steps from applying to your first class. Swipe to see each step.

  1. Sign up with a one-time code

Register through a one-time code sent to your phone or email, and list the subjects, classes and boards you teach, SSC, HSC, CBSE or IB, along with the Pune suburbs you reach.

  2. Upload your ID; our team reviews it

Your government photo ID is uploaded next and reviewed by the team before the profile is marked Verified. An ID can sit on only one account, and the review confirms identity alone.

  3. Your profile carries the Verified badge

With approval, the profile carries the Verified badge and shows your boards, your zones from Aundh to Hadapsar, the hours you keep free and the fee you decided.

  4. A family nearby sends a request

A parent in Baner or Kondhwa raises a request. NXTutors offers two or three tutors, from the same suburb first, then those willing to travel there, the zone, the city, then online.

  5. Free demo; the family sees your fee first

Your fee is shown to the parent before booking, and the opening lesson is a free demo at their home with them present, so you can weigh up the fit and the ride.

  6. Teach at home, online or both

Then teach at home in your chosen suburbs, online for students anywhere, or a blend, for example a weekend visit in Wakad with online sessions on weekday evenings.

Boards you can teach in Pune

Pune tutors teach the Maharashtra State Board's SSC and HSC, CBSE, ICSE and ISC, and for a smaller group the IB Diploma and Cambridge IGCSE. The State Board works through nine divisional boards; the Pune Divisional Board, founded in 1966, covers Pune, Ahilyanagar and Solapur districts, so Pimpri-Chinchwad falls under it too. Read SSC and HSC subject lists and evaluation schemes on mahahsscboard.in, MHT-CET notices only on cetcell.mahacet.org, JEE and NEET bulletins on NTA's sites, CBSE material on cbseacademic.nic.in and CISCE documents on cisce.org.

Pune is home to the state board's head office in Shivajinagar. SSC maths is two 40-mark papers plus 20 internal marks; HSC Mathematics and Statistics is 80 marks in three hours, weighted towards understanding and application rather than recall. Many State Board students also take MHT-CET, so use only the State CET Cell's notices for it.

CBSE

Classes 1–12

Pune's CBSE students live from Kothrud to Kharadi. Teach from NCERT and grade practice against the schemes on cbseacademic.nic.in; for Classes 11 and 12, JEE and NEET follow NTA's bulletins, so keep board and entrance plans linked. Whether the exam is SSC, CBSE or ICSE, Class 10 leans on Class 9, so fix gaps early.

CISCE (ICSE and ISC)

ICSE (Class 10); ISC (Class 12)

CISCE runs the ICSE at Class 10 and the ISC at Class 12; both reward complete, organised answers over a broad syllabus with set English literature. A Pune tutor should know the text list and each subject's project requirements, pace the syllabus so winter is free for full papers, and use the cisce.org specimen papers.

IB Diploma Programme

Diploma Programme (Classes 11–12)

A smaller group of Pune students take the IB Diploma. IB Mathematics comes as AA or AI at Standard or Higher Level, and every subject has internally assessed work that a tutor may talk through but must never write. Prepare from the ibo.org guides; online sessions reach students across Pune's spread-out suburbs.

Cambridge / Pearson Edexcel IGCSE

IGCSE (Classes 9–10)

For IGCSE, the tier and the command words decide how an answer is built, so practise with past papers and official mark schemes. Pune's IGCSE learners are a smaller group, which makes an online offer useful between home visits. Check the Cambridge or Pearson Edexcel syllabus on its own site first.

Where in Pune tutors are needed

Zones marked "Tutors needed" have the fewest tutors living in or travelling to them, so families there mostly see online tutors today. Add them to your travel areas to reach those families first.

Kothrud, Karve Nagar & Deccan

Tutors needed

No Pune zone is better served by the metro: Vanaz, Anand Nagar, Paud Phata, Deccan Gymkhana and Shivaji Nagar cover most of it, though Karve Nagar and Warje need a two-wheeler. Bungalows in Erandwane and Model Colony need a lane and map pin, Kothrud and Warje complexes a gate entry, and Paud Road is slow in the early evening. Start before the Paud Road rush or after it clears.

Deccan Gymkhana, Erandwane, Karve Nagar, Kothrud, Model Colony, Shivajinagar, Warje

Aundh, Baner & Pashan

Tutors needed

With no working metro station yet, nearly all tutors travel by road, usually from the next suburb, such as Baner for Balewadi or Pashan for Sus. Almost every home is in a gated society that wants your name, tower and flat a day ahead, and Baner Road and University Road fill up at the end of the office day. A later evening or weekend slot is easier to hold week after week.

Aundh, Balewadi, Baner, Bavdhan, Pashan, Sus

Wakad, Hinjewadi & Pimpri-Chinchwad

Tutors needed

The Purple Line reaches PCMC Bhavan in Pimpri and suburban trains stop at Pimpri, Chinchwad and Akurdi, but Hinjewadi and Wakad still depend on roads. Row houses in the Nigdi sectors are doorstep visits while Wakad, Hinjewadi and Pimple Saudagar townships need gate entry, and IT-park traffic makes early-evening or weekend slots easier. For Chinchwad and Nigdi, a suburban train to Chinchwad or Akurdi is often simpler than the road.

Chinchwad, Hinjewadi, Nigdi and Pradhikaran, Pimple Nilakh, Pimple Saudagar, Pimpri, Wakad

Viman Nagar, Kalyani Nagar & Kharadi

Tutors needed

Kalyani Nagar, Yerwada and Ramwadi stations on the Aqua Line serve the western half, while Kharadi and Wagholi have no station and need a tutor who rides in from nearby. Most homes are gated societies, larger ones limit visitor parking, and Nagar Road and Airport Road are slow at the start and end of the working day. Sort out a gate pass and a parking spot, or a drop point, before the demo.

Kalyani Nagar, Kharadi, Vadgaon Sheri, Viman Nagar, Wagholi, Yerawada

Koregaon Park, Camp & Wanowrie

Tutors needed

Near army areas, the family should check entry rules and any pass you need before the first visit, not on the day. Bund Garden and Pune Railway Station metro stops serve Koregaon Park and Camp, Wanowrie and Salunke Vihar need a two-wheeler or auto, and weekday after-school slots avoid the weekend crowds. Restaurant traffic fills lanes six and seven of Koregaon Park at night, and Salunke Vihar societies keep a visitor log.

Camp, Koregaon Park, Salunke Vihar, Wanowrie

Hadapsar, Kondhwa & NIBM

Tutors needed

There is no metro here, so tutors already living in Hadapsar, Kondhwa or along NIBM Road keep timetables most reliably, with Swargate the closest station for Kondhwa. Gated townships control entry down to the cluster and tower, and NIBM Road and the Katraj–Kondhwa Road carry heavy school and office traffic. Send your name with the cluster, tower and flat to the gate before the demo, and aim for a slot just after the school rush.

Hadapsar, Kondhwa, Magarpatta, NIBM Road, Undri

Katraj, Bibwewadi & Sinhagad Road

Tutors needed

The Purple Line ends at Swargate, so a metro rider finishes to Katraj or Dhankawadi by bus or auto, and the planned Katraj extension is not built yet. Sinhagad Road is long, so ask for the neighbourhood, such as Vadgaon Budruk or Dhayari, and avoid Satara Road and Sinhagad Road at school and office hours. Check that the onward bus or auto fits the lesson time, and use online lessons on the heaviest rain days.

Women tutors welcome

For women tutors: you set the terms

Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad both welcome women tutors on NXTutors, for teaching at home, online or in a blend of the two. Your zones and hours are your decision: a tutor in Kothrud could stay along the Purple Line from Vanaz to Shivaji Nagar, one in Hadapsar among the nearby townships, and students further away can learn online. Each tutor is put through the same ID check, a parent is present at the free demo, and the safeguarding policy covers tutors and families alike. None of this is a pledge about any individual's conduct.

  • Switch between home, online and hybrid whenever your semester changes.
  • Choose the zones you want; skipping Hinjewadi traffic or Nagar Road late in the day is entirely your call.
  • List the hours you are free, so Pune families can see when you are able to teach.
  • A family's first lesson with you is the free demo, and a parent is at home for it.
  • Gated societies in Baner, Wakad and Magarpatta can log you at the gate; ask the family to send your name, tower and flat a day ahead.
  • Discuss fees and changes of time with a parent, never in a private chat with the student.
  • Young children should be taught in an open room with an adult in the house; online, cameras stay on.
  • Should anything worry you, stop the lessons and tell NXTutors, labelled Safeguarding, after calling 112 if anyone is in danger.

Read the safeguarding policy and how the ID check works.

Why tutors choose NXTutors

What is different from a directory listing or a tuition bureau.

  • You set your fee

Your fee per class is on your profile, and families see it before the demo, so there is no haggling after a good class.

  • Matched, nearest first

Each request goes to two or three tutors who fit it, nearest first, not to a long list of people chasing the same family.

  • Demo first

The first class is a free demo. Families decide after meeting you, not from a phone call or a price list.

  • No made-up leads

We never show invented requests. The only request details on these pages are real and anonymised, and only once there are three or more.

  • An ID check for everyone

Every tutor who joins goes through the same ID check. Real tutors who pass carry the Verified badge; sample profiles are always labelled.

  • AI-first, with real teachers

Parents can ask NXT AI about your profile and compare tutors side by side. The teaching is always yours.

Tutor plans and what each includes

Tutor plans are listed on our pricing page with what each one includes. Read them before you apply; we do not quote prices on this page. Tutors are independent: you set your own fee, and families pay you for the classes they take.

Questions from tutors

How does a Pune parent's request reach a tutor?

The parent fills in one form with class, board, subjects, locality and timings. From that, NXTutors chooses two or three tutors in order of distance: same locality, tutors who travel there, the rest of the zone, the city, then online. Each chosen tutor's fee is visible to the family before they book the free demo.

Can I take online students while teaching at home in Pune?

Yes. Your profile can say home, online or both. Home requests follow the localities you add, while online requests are not tied to your address and rest on subject, board and class, so a tutor in Kothrud can teach a Hinjewadi student online on weekdays and visit nearby families at weekends.

Which Pune localities should I add?

Start with your own suburb and the next one along, since a short two-wheeler ride is what keeps lessons regular in zones without a metro. If you live near an Aqua or Purple Line station, add the zones on that line. Leave out areas that need Nagar Road, Baner Road or NIBM Road at peak hour.

What verification does a Pune tutor need?

An ID check, not a police check. You confirm your phone number or email with a one-time code and upload a government photo ID, and our team reviews it before your profile is marked Verified. Real tutors who pass carry a Verified badge. The steps are explained on How we verify tutors (/how-we-verify-tutors).

Is there a fee for Pune tutors?

No. Signing up and onboarding are free, and the Free plan gives you 160 lead credits a month. Paid plans (/pricing) are optional: they add visibility, AI tools and more credits, and no plan is a fee to apply for a tuition. Your lesson fee is your own call, and Pune families see it on your profile before their free demo. Because switching tutor costs a parent nothing, regular classes and steady progress are what keep a student with you.

As a woman tutor in Pune, can I avoid long cross-city trips?

Yes. You list the suburbs you will travel to, and home matching respects them, while the hours you are free show families when you teach, so a tutor in Kothrud can keep home lessons nearby and teach Kharadi or Wakad students online. A parent is present at the free demo, before any regular slot is agreed.

Which boards do Pune families study under?

The Maharashtra State Board's SSC and HSC, CBSE, CISCE's ICSE and ISC, and for a smaller group the IB Diploma or Cambridge IGCSE; many State Board students also sit MHT-CET. Name each board, class and medium you teach on your profile, rather than a subject alone.

Does a hybrid week work around Hinjewadi and Wakad?

It can. IT-park traffic makes weekday evenings slow there, so a weekend home lesson for new topics plus a shorter online class midweek is easier to hold than two visits. Select both modes and agree the pattern with the parent after the demo.
