Primary tutor jobs in Pune for Classes 1 to 5

Children in the same Pune housing society can be in completely different school systems: a State Board school teaching in Marathi or English, a CBSE school using NCERT books, an ICSE school with its own book list for the junior years, or an IB Primary Years or Cambridge Primary school. For a primary tutor this is the first thing to sort out at every new home, because the books and the style of answer differ even when the child is six.

Who asks for primary (class 1–5) tutors in Pune

Primary requests in Pune tend to start with a pattern a parent has noticed rather than a low mark: reading that is still laboured after Class 2, counting on fingers in Class 3, word problems left blank even when the sums are easy, or homework that ends in tears most evenings. Parents want someone patient who notices early and works on the skill behind the homework, not someone who simply sits beside the child until the worksheet is done.

Language is a distinctive part of primary demand here. Pune draws families from every part of India, and a child who arrives from another state may meet Marathi at school for the first time. A child from a Marathi-speaking home in an English-medium school may struggle with English spelling instead, and Hindi often sits between the two. Families ask for Marathi or Hindi reading help as often as for maths, and short sessions twice a week usually work better than one long one.

The boards also shape the request. State Board primary classes use state textbooks in the school's medium, with board exams far away at SSC and HSC. CBSE schools mostly use NCERT books, and ICSE schools choose their own books up to Class 8. IB PYP families want support for inquiry and presentation, and the child must always do the research and the work. Cambridge Primary schools may use Checkpoint-style assessments, which a tutor should follow only if the school does.

Where in Pune the work is

Primary lessons are usually right after school, and that is when Pune's roads are busiest. The tutor who lasts is the one who lives close by. In Katraj, Bibwewadi & Sinhagad Road, many families live in independent houses and builder floors where the tutor rings at the door, which makes early slots easy; the Purple Line stops at Swargate, so most tutors there ride in by two-wheeler. In the Nigdi Pradhikaran sectors of Wakad, Hinjewadi & Pimpri-Chinchwad, row houses suit early slots too, while Wakad townships suit weekends.

In Kothrud, Karve Nagar & Deccan, start before the Paud Road evening build-up. In Hadapsar, Kondhwa & NIBM, aim for just after the school traffic on NIBM Road, and send your name with the cluster and tower to the gate before the first visit. Koregaon Park, Camp & Wanowrie is often calmer on weekday afternoons than at weekends.

What families in Pune expect

  • Phonics, blending and reading-aloud routines for Classes 1 and 2.
  • Place value, number bonds and times tables taught with objects before worksheets.
  • Knowledge of the school's books, whether State Board, NCERT, an ICSE school list, IB PYP or Cambridge Primary.
  • Marathi or Hindi reading support, or honesty about which languages you cannot teach.
  • A session split between checking homework, teaching the skill behind it, and independent practice.
  • A short weekly note to parents on what to praise and what to practise.
  • Teaching in an open room with an adult at home, as families of young children expect.

How to get picked

Primary families in Pune read a profile for warmth and method rather than degrees. Say what a typical hour looks like with you, which languages you can read and write, and which ages you prefer. "Classes 1–5, reading and maths, Marathi and English, Kothrud and Warje, weekday 4–6 pm" tells a parent everything they need. If you have taught in a school or a preschool, describe the age groups.

At the demo, read a short passage with the child and do a few sums with objects or drawings, then tell the parent two specific things you noticed and what you would work on first. Keep it gentle; a calm first hour matters more to a parent of a seven-year-old than any syllabus talk. Your fee is shown to them before the demo.

A useful one-hour shape for this age group is ten minutes on the day's homework, twenty-five on the skill behind it, fifteen of the child working alone while you only prompt, and ten of reading aloud or a short game, ending with a note for the parent. Pune parents often ask how the hour will be spent; describing this split on your profile answers the question before the demo.

Joining, leads and pay

Joining is free

Applying, onboarding, building your profile, the ID check and receiving matched requests on the Free plan cost nothing. The Free plan gives you 160 lead credits every month.

Paid plans are optional

Pro, Premium and Featured are optional platform subscriptions: more visibility, AI tools and more lead credits. They are never a fee to apply for a tuition. See tutor plans.

How leads and credits work

A family request that fits your subjects, classes, board, areas and hours reaches your dashboard. Opening the family's contact details uses lead credits, and the credit price is shown on the request before you open it. At most 5 tutors can open one request, and a request stays open for 7 days. Credit packs are there if you need more.

How you get paid

You set your own fee. When a family pays for classes through NXTutors, you receive 50% of the fee for home tuition in the first month and the full fee after that, and 70% of the fee for online tuition every month. Payments are held for 7 days, then paid out weekly. How you get paid.

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more.

Questions from tutors

What do Pune parents most often want from a primary tutor?

Help with reading, number sense and homework habits, and often Marathi, Hindi or English support where the child is new to a language at school.

Do I need to know Marathi to teach primary in Pune?

Not always, but it widens the requests you can take, especially for State Board schools and families new to Maharashtra. Say clearly which languages you teach.

Is online tutoring common for Classes 1 to 5?

Less so. Reading aloud, handwriting and hands-on maths work better in person, so most Pune families prefer a tutor at home for young children.

What time do primary lessons usually happen?

Soon after school, which overlaps with the evening rush on Paud Road, NIBM Road and Satara Road. Choose localities you can reach within a short ride at that hour.

Can I support IB PYP or Cambridge Primary children?

Yes, by helping them read, research and present, never by producing their work. Follow the school's own scheme.

Is joining free for primary tutors?

Yes. Joining and onboarding are free, with monthly lead credits on the Free plan. Paid plans are optional.
