Tutors who join go through an ID check. Tell us the class, board and your area: we share two or three matched tutors, each with their fee, and the first class is a free demo, at home or online.
Book a free demo classAcross NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

The primary years decide how a child feels about school as much as what they know. A Class 2 child who reads slowly or a Class 4 child who freezes at word problems can still catch up quickly, provided someone notices early and works patiently. This guide from the NXTutors Academic Team covers what a primary tutor in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad should concentrate on at each stage, how the State Board, CBSE, ICSE, IB and Cambridge differ in these years, how to handle Marathi and the other languages, and how to fit an after-school slot into the city's traffic and the June rains.
Marks in Classes 1 to 5 move around a great deal and say little on their own. Patterns matter more. Look for:
One of these on its own may pass with time. Two or three together, lasting a term, are a good reason to bring in a patient tutor once or twice a week.
| Class | Reading and language | Maths | Habit to build |
|---|---|---|---|
| Classes 1 and 2 | Blending sounds into words, reading aloud daily, short sentences in a notebook | Counting, number bonds to 20, simple shapes and patterns | Sitting for twenty focused minutes |
| Class 3 | Reading for meaning, answering "why" questions in full sentences | Place value, carrying and borrowing, times tables begun | Checking work before saying "done" |
| Class 4 | Longer passages, a first paragraph of their own, spelling patterns | Multiplication and division, early fractions, measurement | Keeping a neat, dated notebook |
| Class 5 | Comprehension with inference, structured answers for EVS or science | Fractions and decimals, word problems with two steps, area and perimeter | Planning homework across the week |
EVS, or science and social studies where the school splits them, rarely needs its own tutor at this age. It needs a child who can read the chapter and explain it back, which is the reading work above.
Children in the same Pune building can be following quite different systems. In the primary years the gaps are smaller than they later become, but the tutor still needs to know which books and which style of answer the school expects.
| Board or programme | What shapes the primary years | How the tutor adapts |
|---|---|---|
| Maharashtra State Board schools | State textbooks in the school's medium, often Marathi or English; the board's own examinations come much later, at SSC and HSC | Work from the class textbook in the same medium; build vocabulary in both school and home languages |
| CBSE | NCERT books in most schools | Finish the textbook exercises and talk through the activity questions rather than skipping them |
| ICSE schools (CISCE) | Classes I to VIII are taught from books the school chooses | Ask for the book list; ICSE English is later examined in two papers, so grammar and composition deserve early care |
| IB Primary Years Programme | Ages 3 to 12; a transdisciplinary framework built on six themes, with the Exhibition in the final year | Support inquiry and presentation skills; help the child research, never produce the work |
| Cambridge Primary | Typically ages 5 to 11; optional assessments including Cambridge Primary Checkpoint | Follow the school's scheme; use Checkpoint-style questions only if the school uses them |
For later years, see our Maharashtra Board, CBSE, ICSE and IB tutor pages for Pune.
Both, in the right proportion. Homework is a good window into what the school is covering, so a tutor should look at it every session. But a tutor who simply sits beside a child until the worksheet is complete is doing the child's thinking. A sensible split for a one-hour session is:
If the homework load itself is the problem, a tutor can also help you speak to the class teacher with specifics rather than complaints.
Pune draws families from every part of India, and the second or third language is often where a primary child falls behind first. Children who arrive from another state may meet Marathi at school for the first time; children from Marathi-speaking homes in English-medium schools may struggle with English spelling instead. Hindi often sits between the two.
A language tutor at this stage should read aloud with the child, build a word bank from the textbook, practise handwriting in the script, and keep it light. Twice a week for half an hour usually beats a single long session. Our English home tutors in Pune page covers English across the boards, and you can ask for Marathi or Hindi help in your request.
A tutor sees your child for an hour or two a week; you see them every day. The gains from tuition stick when a few small habits continue at home:
| Zone | Usual way in | After-school timing |
|---|---|---|
| Kothrud, Karve Nagar & Deccan | Aqua Line stations from Vanaz to Deccan Gymkhana; Warje by two-wheeler | A slot that starts before the Paud Road evening build-up |
| Aundh, Baner & Pashan | Road only for now, ideally from a neighbouring suburb | Later evening once Baner Road and University Road clear |
| Wakad, Hinjewadi & Pimpri-Chinchwad | Purple Line to PCMC Bhavan; Akurdi or Chinchwad by suburban train | Nigdi row houses suit early slots; Wakad suits weekends |
| Viman Nagar, Kalyani Nagar & Kharadi | Aqua Line to Ramwadi; Wagholi by road along Nagar Road | After the office return on Nagar Road |
| Koregaon Park, Camp & Wanowrie | Metro to Bund Garden or Pune Railway Station; road for the south | Weekday afternoons are calmer than weekends |
| Hadapsar, Kondhwa & NIBM | Two-wheeler, bus or auto, since no metro reaches the zone | Soon after the school traffic on NIBM Road |
| Katraj, Bibwewadi & Sinhagad Road | Swargate on the Purple Line, then bus or auto | Before or after the Satara Road rush |
For most primary children, home tuition works better: reading aloud, handwriting and hands-on maths with objects all need a person at the table. Online becomes useful from about Class 4 for a specific need, such as a second language taught by a tutor elsewhere, or a short revision call on monsoon days when travel is difficult. If you go online, keep sessions short, use a laptop rather than a phone, and stay nearby. Our online tutors for Pune students page explains how to set it up.
The first lesson with the tutor you choose is a free demo. Use it to see how the tutor teaches your child, not how impressive the tutor sounds:
Tutors who join go through an ID check before their profile is marked Verified. If the demo does not suit, another tutor on the shortlist can come, and switching later is free. Our demo class checklist has more ideas.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Primary sessions usually sit toward the lower part of that range, with the number of subjects, the tutor's experience and the journey at your hour affecting the quote. Tutors set their own fee, shown before the demo. See the pricing guide and home tuition fees in Pune.
Warje, a farming village until about 1970 and now mostly gated complexes along the river, has no metro station, so a tutor from Kothrud or Warje itself who rides over is the usual match. In Sus, set in a valley between hills, tutors tend to come along the Pashan–Sus Road from Pashan, Baner or Bavdhan. Nigdi is largely the numbered Pradhikaran sectors, where a tutor at a row house simply rings the bell, and Akurdi station brings suburban trains close by.
Wagholi, added to the municipal corporation in 2021, is mostly towers along the highway, so the gate pass should be sorted before the first visit. Wanowrie, once a cantonment village, is settled housing towards Hadapsar with no station nearby. And Undri, beyond NIBM Road, has societies spread over large plots, so clear directions to the right tower help a new tutor more than anything.

When a pattern lasts a term: reading that stays slow beyond Class 2, finger counting in Class 3, blank word problems, or homework that ends in tears most evenings. A move from another state or board is another good reason. One shaky test on its own is rarely enough to start regular tuition.
Usually yes. In Classes 1 to 5 the core work is reading, writing and number sense, and EVS or science depends mostly on reading the chapter well. A separate tutor makes sense only for a second language the main tutor does not speak, or for a specific maths difficulty that needs longer, focused work.
Yes, you can ask for Marathi reading and writing help in your request. Tell us the class, the school's textbook and how much Marathi your child already knows. Short, frequent sessions with reading aloud, a word bank from the textbook and handwriting practice usually work better than one long weekly lesson.
No. Homework shows what the school is covering, so the tutor should look at it, but most of the session should teach the skill behind it, such as reading a question carefully. Your child should then attempt some homework alone while the tutor watches, so the learning stays with the child.
The IB PYP is built on six transdisciplinary themes with an Exhibition in the final year, so the tutor supports inquiry, reading and presenting without doing the work. Cambridge Primary follows the school's scheme, with Checkpoint as an optional assessment. Share the school's unit or scheme so sessions link to the classroom.
For most young children, home sessions work better, because reading aloud, handwriting and hands-on maths need someone at the table. From about Class 4, online can help for a second language or a short revision call on heavy-rain days. Keep sessions short, use a laptop, and stay nearby.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour, and primary lessons usually sit in the lower part of that range. The number of subjects, the tutor's experience and travel at your chosen time all affect the quote. Each fee is shown on your shortlist before the free demo.
