Home Tuition in West Pune: Kothrud, Baner, Wakad and PCMC
West Pune runs from the old educational streets of Deccan and Shivajinagar out through Kothrud and Aundh to the IT belt around Baner, Wakad and Hinjewadi, and across the Mula river into Pimpri-Chinchwad. Most families live in apartments and gated societies. The Aqua and Purple metro lines serve the older half well; the newer suburbs still depend on roads.
This guide covers three zones: Kothrud, Karve Nagar and Deccan; Aundh, Baner and Pashan; and Wakad, Hinjewadi and Pimpri-Chinchwad. For each area it notes how tutors arrive, the gate routine and when a class is likely to start on time.
How do the three zones fit together?
The Aqua Line opened its first section, from Vanaz to the Deccan side, on 6 March 2022, and reached Deccan Gymkhana and District Court on 1 August 2023. The Purple Line's first section, from PCMC Bhavan to Phugewadi, opened on 6 March 2022 as well, and the line reached Swargate on 29 September 2024. District Court is the interchange between them. Metro Line 3, planned from Maan near Hinjewadi through Wakad, Balewadi, Baner and Aundh to Shivajinagar, is still under construction and not open to passengers.
| Zone | Rail links tutors use today | Main roads |
|---|---|---|
| Kothrud, Karve Nagar and Deccan | Aqua Line: Vanaz, Anand Nagar, Paud Phata, Deccan Gymkhana; Purple Line: Shivaji Nagar; suburban trains at Shivajinagar | Paud Road, the main road from Deccan to Warje, Ganeshkhind Road, DP Road |
| Aundh, Baner and Pashan | None open yet; Vanaz is the nearest working station for Bavdhan | Katraj–Dehu Road bypass, Baner Road, Ganeshkhind Road, Pashan–Sus Road |
| Wakad, Hinjewadi and Pimpri-Chinchwad | Purple Line: PCMC Bhavan, Nashik Phata, Kasarwadi; suburban trains at Pimpri, Chinchwad and Akurdi | Old Mumbai–Pune highway, Katraj–Dehu Road bypass, Aundh–Ravet BRTS road |
Kothrud, Karve Nagar and Deccan
This zone has the most rail links in west Pune. The main road from Deccan runs through Shivajinagar, Erandwane, Kothrud and Karve Nagar to Warje, and Paud Road starts at Paud Phata and heads west through Kothrud. Paud Phata station was called Ideal Colony until December 2025.
- Kothrud: a long-established suburb of apartment buildings and societies, many of them redeveloped into taller blocks. Vanaz, Anand Nagar and Paud Phata stations are all here. Ask the gate to register the tutor once, and allow for the evening rush on Paud Road.
- Karve Nagar: apartment buildings and builder floors on quiet lanes, with no station inside the area. Many families prefer a tutor from Kothrud, Warje or Erandwane who comes by two-wheeler. Smaller buildings let the tutor straight to the door.
- Erandwane: takes in Prabhat Road and Nal Stop, with Paud Phata station at its edge. Parking on the narrow lanes is tight, so a tutor on a two-wheeler is easier.
- Deccan Gymkhana: a busy mix of homes, shops and institutions along the Mutha river, with its own Aqua Line station. Parking near the main roads is limited, so metro plus a short walk is often simpler than driving.
- Shivajinagar: the strongest transit point in west Pune, with a Purple Line station, the District Court interchange and suburban trains towards Lonavala. Office traffic around Ganeshkhind Road and the court area is heavy, so late afternoon works better.
- Model Colony: a quiet, planned pocket within Shivajinagar with wide internal roads, standalone houses and older apartment buildings. Shivaji Nagar and Deccan Gymkhana stations are within reach. In houses the tutor comes to the gate; in buildings, leave a name with the watchman.
- Warje: a former farming village on the Mutha that joined the city in 2001, now mostly gated complexes, with the Malwadi side the most built up. The bypass runs through it, and Vanaz is the nearest station. Avoid the busiest hours at the highway junction.
Aundh, Baner and Pashan
The Katraj–Dehu Road bypass ties this zone together, passing through Balewadi, Baner, Pashan and both halves of Bavdhan. Balewadi was a village until 1997, when it joined the Pune Municipal Corporation along with 22 other villages. With Line 3 not yet open, almost every tutor here arrives by road, most often by two-wheeler from the next area.
- Bavdhan: Bavdhan Budruk and Bavdhan Khurd, with Chandani Chowk at the edge where several major roads meet. The Aqua Line's extension from Vanaz towards Chandani Chowk is under construction, so for now a metro traveller finishes by auto. The Chandani Chowk junction is slow at peak hours.
- Aundh: apartments, gated societies and independent houses along Ganeshkhind Road up to the bridge over the Mula. Tutors from Baner, Pashan, Pimple Nilakh or Shivajinagar come by two-wheeler; avoid office hours on the main road.
- Baner: a former farming village that is now both a residential and an office hub, with Baner Hill to the south. Gated societies expect visitor registration, and evening office traffic on Baner Road makes a slightly later or weekend slot easier.
- Balewadi: mostly high-rise societies, with the High Street area and a large sports complex. Tutors from Baner, Wakad or Aundh come by road, and evening traffic builds from the Hinjewadi side, so book the slot with that in mind.
- Pashan: mainly residential, with a lake on the Ramnadi stream known for migratory birds. The Pashan–Sus Road heads west from here. Societies ask for gate entry, while smaller buildings let the tutor straight up.
- Sus: a newer area in a valley between hills, reached mainly along the Pashan–Sus Road. Societies usually want the tutor's details before the first class, so send them a day ahead, and keep the slot outside the evening office peak on that single road.
Wakad, Hinjewadi and Pimpri-Chinchwad
North of the Mula, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation, set up in 1982, governs a large part of this zone. The Purple Line starts at PCMC Bhavan in Pimpri, and an extension through Chinchwad, Akurdi and Nigdi is under construction. The old Mumbai–Pune highway runs through Pimpri, Chinchwad and Nigdi. Chinchwad station is on the Pune–Lonavala suburban line.
- Wakad: a large area of apartment complexes and gated societies close to the Hinjewadi IT park. Line 3 has a station planned at Wakad Chowk but is not open. Tutors usually come from Pimple Saudagar, Thergaon, Hinjewadi or Baner by two-wheeler; an early-evening or weekend slot is easier to keep.
- Hinjewadi: homes in large townships beside the IT park, which was built in three phases. Roads are very busy at office hours, with heavy vehicles restricted in the morning and evening peaks. Time classes against the office rush, and consider online lessons for specialist senior-school subjects.
- Pimple Saudagar: established and newer societies near Rahatani and Pimple Gurav, on the Aundh–Ravet and Wakad–Bhosari BRTS roads. PCMC Bhavan station and Pimpri railway station are the nearest rail links, with an auto for the last part.
- Pimple Nilakh: on the north bank of the Mula with Baner and Aundh across the water; Vishal Nagar is one of its main parts. Bridge crossings towards Aundh and Baner slow down at office hours.
- Pimpri: one of the easiest places in the zone to reach from central Pune, with PCMC Bhavan station and suburban trains on the Pune–Lonavala line. Older buildings let the tutor come straight to the door; newer societies register visitors. Avoid the highway at shift and office times.
- Chinchwad: an established locality on the Pavana river, with Chinchwadgaon, Bijlinagar and Dalvinagar among its parts. Until the metro extension opens, the nearest station is PCMC Bhavan; Chinchwad railway station and the BRTS routes serve the area. Townships ask for gate registration.
- Nigdi: largely Pradhikaran, laid out in numbered sectors by the Pimpri Chinchwad New Town Development Authority, which has its headquarters here. Akurdi railway station is in Sector 26. In independent houses and row houses the tutor comes straight to the door; share the sector number too.
When should a weekday class start?
- Soon after school. Paud Road, Ganeshkhind Road, Baner Road, the bypass and the highway through Pimpri all fill up at office hours, so an early slot is the most likely to start on time.
- Later, near a station. Close to Vanaz, Paud Phata, Deccan Gymkhana, Shivaji Nagar or PCMC Bhavan, a tutor who comes by metro can manage a later evening slot.
- Weekends for the IT belt. In Hinjewadi, Wakad and Balewadi, weekend mornings often suit both sides better than weekday evenings.

Frequently asked questions
Which metro stations serve Kothrud?
Kothrud has three Aqua Line stations, Vanaz, Anand Nagar and Paud Phata, open since March 2022. Paud Phata was called Ideal Colony until December 2025. A tutor from Deccan or across the river can ride the line and walk or take an auto for the last stretch to the society gate.
Is Metro Line 3 open for tutors travelling to Baner or Hinjewadi?
No. Line 3, from Maan near Hinjewadi through Wakad, Balewadi, Baner and Aundh to Shivajinagar, is not yet open to passengers. For now most tutors in these areas come by two-wheeler from the neighbouring area, so a slot outside the office rush matters more than usual.
How do tutors reach Pimpri-Chinchwad from Pune city?
The Purple Line runs from Swargate through Shivajinagar to PCMC Bhavan in Pimpri, and suburban trains on the Pune–Lonavala line stop at Pimpri, Chinchwad and Akurdi. From there an auto or bus covers the last part. Many families also find tutors who already live in the zone.
Do societies in Wakad and Baner need a gate pass for tutors?
Almost always. Most gated societies in both areas register visitors at the gate, so share the tutor's name, your tower and your flat number with security before the free demo class. A fixed weekly slot helps the guards recognise the tutor, which makes later visits quicker for everyone.
How much does home tuition cost in west Pune?
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Each tutor sets their own fee, which you see before the free demo.
