Home Tuition Fees in Pune (2026): Plan Subject by Subject
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. The band covers the whole of Pune, from Kothrud to Kharadi and Nigdi. Each tutor sets their own fee, and you see it before the first class.
Knowing the band is the easy part. The harder question for most Pune families is how many subjects need a tutor, which of them need someone at the door and which can go online, and how the week should look. This guide works through that question first, then prices three sample weekly timetables, shows what your part of the city changes and lists the common money mistakes, with a fix for each.
Which subjects actually need a tutor?
Before you ask anyone for a quote, sort your child's subjects into three groups. The sorting decides the budget more than any single hourly rate does.
- Needs a tutor at home: the subject where the child is furthest behind, or where written working has to be watched line by line, such as maths from Class 6 onwards or numericals in physics.
- Can go online: a subject the child already follows but wants to sharpen, or a specialist syllabus such as IB or IGCSE where the right tutor may not live near you.
- Needs no tutor yet: subjects where marks are steady. Leave them out and review after the next unit test.
The table turns each situation into a starting number of hours and a four-week cost at both ends of the band. The hours are planning examples, not quotes; the tutor will suggest a plan after the demo.
| Situation | Suggested format | Hours a week to start | Four weeks at ₹800 an hour | Four weeks at ₹2,500 an hour |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| One weak subject in a junior class | Home | 2 | ₹6,400 | ₹20,000 |
| Homework support across subjects, Classes 3–7 | Home | 3 | ₹9,600 | ₹30,000 |
| Class 9 or 10 maths and science | Home, or home plus online | 4 | ₹12,800 | ₹40,000 |
| One IB or IGCSE subject | Online or home | 2 | ₹6,400 | ₹20,000 |
| Class 11 or 12 science, three subjects | Mix of home and online | 6 | ₹19,200 | ₹60,000 |
The first two rows usually sit nearer the left-hand column. The last two sit toward the upper end, so plan nearer the right-hand figure, and remember that an IB HL or JEE Advanced specialist can charge more than ₹2,500 an hour. The NXTutors pricing guide explains the factors class by class.
What do three sample weeks look like?
A timetable shows how many visits a week the family and the tutor have to fit around school and travel.
| Day | Week 1: Class 6, maths only | Week 2: Class 10, maths and science | Week 3: Class 12, physics, chemistry and maths |
|---|---|---|---|
| Monday | Maths at home, 1 hour | Maths at home, 1 hour | Physics at home, 1 hour |
| Tuesday | No class | Science online, 1 hour | Chemistry online, 1 hour |
| Wednesday | No class | No class | Maths at home, 1 hour |
| Thursday | Maths at home, 1 hour | Maths at home, 1 hour | Physics at home, 1 hour |
| Friday | No class | No class | Chemistry online, 1 hour |
| Saturday | No class | Science online, 1 hour | Maths at home, 1 hour |
| Hours in the week | 2 | 4 | 6 |
| Home visits in the week | 2 | 2 | 4 |
At four weeks to a month, Week 1 comes to ₹6,400 at the bottom of the band. Week 2 comes to ₹12,800 at the bottom and ₹40,000 at the top. Week 3 sits toward the upper end, so plan on ₹60,000 for four weeks at ₹2,500 an hour. The pattern to notice is the last row: moving one subject online cuts the number of trips across town each week, which widens the choice of tutors for the subjects that stay at home.
If a tutor offers both formats, ask whether the fee is the same for each. Our comparison of home and online tutors covers which subjects travel well to a screen.
Which boards do Pune families plan for?
The board decides the syllabus a tutor has to know well, and that is one of the main things behind a quote.
- Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education: the state board, with the SSC at the end of Class 10 and the HSC at the end of Class 12. Ask for a tutor who teaches that board regularly, not only CBSE.
- CBSE: the national board, with the same syllabus from city to city, which helps families who may move. Junior-class help usually sits lower in the band; Class 10 and the senior years sit higher.
- ICSE and ISC: the CISCE boards. Look for a tutor who knows the CISCE syllabus for your class and marks written work closely.
- IB and IGCSE: these programmes have their own assessment style, and fees sit toward the upper end. A specialist online tutor is often the practical route when none lives near you.
JEE and NEET preparation alongside Class 11–12 also sits toward the upper end. Budget for the entrance work and the board work together, not as two separate plans that compete for the same evenings.
Does your part of Pune change the cost?
Location rarely sets a fee on its own. It decides how many tutors can reach you on a weekday evening, and so how many quotes you can compare. Pune's two metro lines matter here: the Purple Line runs from PCMC Bhavan in Pimpri through Shivajinagar to Swargate, and the Aqua Line runs from Vanaz in Kothrud through Deccan to Ramwadi on Nagar Road. Metro Line 3 towards Hinjewadi is not open to passengers yet.
| Part of Pune | How tutors usually arrive | Slot that tends to hold | Zone guide |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kothrud, Deccan and Shivajinagar | Aqua and Purple Line, then a short walk or auto | Late afternoon, before the Paud Road rush | West Pune guide |
| Aundh, Baner, Pashan and Sus | Two-wheeler from neighbouring areas | Early evening or weekend | West Pune guide |
| Wakad, Hinjewadi and Pimpri-Chinchwad | Purple Line or suburban train in Pimpri; two-wheeler near the IT park | Timed against office shifts | West Pune guide |
| Viman Nagar, Kalyani Nagar and Kharadi | Aqua Line to Ramwadi, Kalyani Nagar or Yerwada, then auto; road only in Kharadi and Wagholi | After the Nagar Road office rush | East Pune guide |
| Koregaon Park, Camp and Wanowrie | Aqua Line to Bund Garden or Pune Railway Station, then auto | Weekday after school | East Pune guide |
| Hadapsar, Kondhwa and NIBM | Two-wheeler, bus or auto; no metro yet | Just after the school traffic | South Pune guide |
| Katraj, Bibwewadi and Sinhagad Road | Purple Line to Swargate, then bus or auto | After the evening school traffic | South Pune guide |
Which money mistakes should we avoid?
| Mistake | What it costs | The fix |
|---|---|---|
| Booking every subject at full weight from week one | Hours spent on subjects that were already steady | Start the weakest subject at full weight and the others light; rebalance after the first unit test |
| Comparing hourly rates, not totals | A lower rate with more hours can cost more over a term | Multiply rate by hours for four weeks for every quote |
| A slot set in the evening rush | Late starts and short classes you still pay for | Pick a slot the tutor can reach on time every week |
| No end point | Tuition that runs on after the goal is met | Write down the goal and a review date before the first paid class |
| Staying with a tutor who is not working out | Weeks of fees with little progress | Switch; on NXTutors switching tutor later is free |
What should we settle before the first paid month?
- The fee and the format. Hourly rate, class length and whether any classes are online.
- Cancellations. What happens when either side cancels, and how much notice is needed.
- Exam season. Whether extra hours before the SSC, HSC, board or school exams are at the same rate.
- Payment. Monthly in advance or after the classes are held.
- Progress. How the tutor will report it, and when you will review the plan together.
How NXTutors can help
Share your child's class, board and subjects with your area of Pune or Pimpri-Chinchwad. We come back with two or three matched tutors: home tutors where some live within reach, and online tutors from anywhere in India. Every fee is shown to you before the demo, that first class is free, and a later change of tutor costs nothing. Our demo class checklist for parents lists what to watch in that first class.

Frequently asked questions
How much does a home tutor cost in Pune?
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Each tutor sets their own fee, and you see it before the free demo class.
What is a sensible monthly budget for Class 10 in Pune?
A common start is four hours a week across maths and science. Over four weeks that is sixteen hours: ₹12,800 at ₹800 an hour and ₹40,000 at ₹2,500 an hour. Your actual figure depends on the quotes on your shortlist, which you see before the free demo class.
Are fees different in Pimpri-Chinchwad and in Pune city?
No. One band applies on both sides of the Mula river. What moves a quote is the class, the board, the subject and the depth of the tutor's experience, and every tutor fixes their own rate. Your address mostly changes how many tutors can reach you on a weekday evening.
Is a Maharashtra State Board tutor cheaper than a CBSE tutor?
Not as a rule. The class and subject matter more than the board name, and each tutor sets their own fee. What matters is that the tutor teaches your board regularly, since the SSC and HSC syllabus differs from CBSE's. Ask about this at the free demo.
Can a mix of home and online classes help a Pune budget?
It can. A home visit suits the subject where written working needs watching; a second subject or an IB or IGCSE specialist can be taught on screen. Fewer trips each week make more tutors willing to take your slot. If the arrangement stops working, NXTutors lets you switch tutor later for free.
