Home Tuition in South Pune: Hadapsar, Kondhwa and Katraj
South Pune covers two quite different belts. To the south-east, Hadapsar, Magarpatta, Kondhwa, NIBM Road and Undri are largely newer societies and gated townships that grew with the offices along Solapur Road. To the south, Katraj, Bibwewadi, Dhankawadi and the long string of areas on Sinhagad Road are older neighbourhoods of independent houses, cooperative societies and apartment buildings that the city has absorbed over the decades. Neither belt has a metro station yet, so almost every home tutor here arrives by road.
This guide covers two zones: Hadapsar, Kondhwa and NIBM; and Katraj, Bibwewadi and Sinhagad Road. For each area it sets out how tutors usually arrive, the gate or doorstep routine and when a weekday class is most likely to start on time.
How do tutors get around south Pune?
The Purple Line reached Swargate on 29 September 2024, with Kasba Peth and Swargate stations opening that day. Swargate is the line's underground terminus and is planned as a hub linked with the city and state bus stations there. An underground extension from Swargate to Katraj was approved in August 2024 but is not yet built; its planned stations are Market Yard, Bibwewadi, Padmavati, Balaji Nagar and Katraj. Until it opens, a tutor who uses the metro gets off at Swargate and finishes by bus or auto.
The main roads decide the rest. Solapur Road, part of National Highway 65, passes through Hadapsar, Manjri and Loni. Satara Road, National Highway 48, starts at Swargate and runs through Parvati, Bibwewadi and Katraj. Sinhagad Road starts near Sarasbaug and ends at Atkarwadi at the base of Sinhagad. Hadapsar railway station serves local trains towards Daund.
| Road or link | Areas it serves | What it means for a class |
|---|---|---|
| Solapur Road | Hadapsar, Magarpatta, Wanowrie side | Heavy at office times; set the slot for when it eases |
| NIBM Road | NIBM Road, Kondhwa, Undri | Busy at school and office hours; a slot just after the school rush works well |
| Katraj to Kondhwa Road | Kondhwa, Katraj | Heavy school and office traffic; plan around both peaks |
| Satara Road | Bibwewadi, Dhankawadi, Katraj | Start after the evening school traffic |
| Sinhagad Road | Vadgaon Budruk, Dhayari and the areas along it | Start before or after the peak-hour rush |
| Purple Line to Swargate | Bibwewadi, Dhankawadi, Katraj, Kondhwa, Salunke Vihar side | Metro, then bus or auto for the last part |
| Hadapsar railway station | Hadapsar, Magarpatta | Local trains towards Daund; road for most trips into the city |
Hadapsar, Kondhwa and NIBM
Hadapsar has a long history, as the site of the Battle of Poona on 25 October 1802, but most of what families see today dates from after 1990, when industry and later IT offices arrived. Magarpatta, a 182-hectare gated township within Hadapsar, began construction in 2000. Kondhwa is made up of Kondhwa Budruk and Kondhwa Khurd, and Undri's road links are NIBM Road, Kondhwa Road and the Katraj to Hadapsar bypass. Societies and townships across this zone register visitors, so the first step before any demo is sending the tutor's name to the gate.
- Hadapsar: a large suburb on Solapur Road, from the old village and Gadital area to societies and large gated townships. The Hadapsar Gadital bus station links it with city and state buses. Send the tutor's name and flat details to the gate before the demo, and use online lessons for specialist subjects or late classes.
- Magarpatta: a planned township developed through land pooling, with apartment clusters from 1 to 4 BHK, a few villa clusters, an office area and a large central park. Entry is controlled, so add the tutor's details at the gate and say which cluster and tower to go to. Traffic at the gates peaks at shift changes.
- Kondhwa: older cooperative societies, mid-rise apartments, high-rise gated townships and rows of villas. The nearest main railway station is Pune Junction, and Swargate is the closest metro. Gated townships need gate registration, while older societies are usually simpler to enter.
- NIBM Road: named after the main road running through it, between Kondhwa and Wanowrie, with societies, gated communities, some villas and a string of shops. Many residents work in the Hadapsar office belt. Share the tutor's name with the security desk in advance.
- Undri: a newer, quieter area beyond NIBM Road, with mid-segment societies, some plotted land and builder floors. Gated societies with play areas are common. Many tutors will come from Kondhwa, NIBM Road or Hadapsar, so give clear directions to the society gate and the tower.
Katraj, Bibwewadi and Sinhagad Road
This zone has deeper roots in the city. Katraj lies at the foot of the Katraj Ghat and is known for its Peshwa-era lake, which once supplied water to Pune. Dhankawadi was a small village incorporated into Pune in 1995. Homes here are more often independent houses and builder floors than in the south-east, so the tutor frequently comes straight to the door, while apartment buildings and newer complexes keep a visitor register or book.
- Katraj: on the Pune to Satara road, with the lake and a zoo park beside it, ringed by independent houses, cooperative societies and newer complexes. PMPML buses run from the Katraj depot, and the bypass meets the highway here. Choose a slot away from the busy hours on the highway and Katraj to Kondhwa Road.
- Bibwewadi: an established area off Satara Road, with Mukund Nagar and the Market Yard side among its pockets. Swargate is the nearest metro stop today, and the Katraj extension will add stations at Market Yard and Bibwewadi. In houses and builder floors the tutor comes straight up.
- Dhankawadi: built up steadily since 2000, with independent houses, apartment complexes and a few gated communities. It sits on the old highway just north of where the bypass branches off, and Hatti Chowk is a familiar bus point. Many tutors live in the surrounding south Pune areas.
- Sinhagad Road: both the long road towards Sinhagad fort and the areas along it, including Vitthalwadi, Anand Nagar, Hingne Khurd, Vadgaon Budruk and Dhayari. A long flyover carries traffic over the busiest section, and Dhayari connects to the Mumbai to Bengaluru highway. Gated complexes register visitors; start classes before or after the rush.
When should a weekday class start?
- Just after the school rush. NIBM Road, Katraj to Kondhwa Road and Satara Road all carry school traffic as well as office traffic, so a slot that starts once the school wave has passed is often the most reliable.
- Around shift changes in Hadapsar and Magarpatta. Office traffic at the township gates and on Solapur Road peaks when shifts change, so fix the class away from those hours.
- A fixed weekly slot. In gated societies and townships, the same weekday and time each week lets the guards recognise the tutor and shortens every later entry.
- Online for the specialist. Where an IB, IGCSE or senior-science specialist does not live nearby, pair a local tutor with online lessons.

Frequently asked questions
Is there a metro station in Hadapsar or Kondhwa?
No, Hadapsar and Kondhwa in south Pune have no metro station yet, so most tutors arrive by two-wheeler, PMPML bus or auto. Hadapsar has a railway station with local trains towards Daund, and Swargate on the Purple Line is the nearest metro for Kondhwa. Tutors often come from a neighbouring area.
When will the Pune metro reach Katraj?
The Pune metro has no opening date for Katraj yet: the underground Purple Line extension from Swargate to Katraj was approved in August 2024 but is not yet built. Its planned stations are Market Yard, Bibwewadi, Padmavati, Balaji Nagar and Katraj. Until it opens, tutors take the metro to Swargate and finish by bus or auto.
How does a tutor get into Magarpatta?
A tutor gets into Magarpatta, a gated township within Hadapsar, through controlled gates, so add the tutor's name to the gate list before the free demo class. Say which cluster and tower to come to. Office traffic at the township gates peaks at shift changes, so an after-school slot away from those hours works well.
Do tutors come straight to the door in Bibwewadi?
Yes, in Bibwewadi tutors usually come straight to the door, since the area has many independent houses and builder floors. Apartment buildings may keep a visitor book, and the few gated communities register visitors. Satara Road is heavy at school and office hours, so start the class after the evening school traffic.
