Tutors who join go through an ID check. Tell us the class, board and your area: we share two or three matched tutors, each with their fee, and the first class is a free demo, at home or online.
Book a free demo classAcross NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

A three-year-old in Kothrud and a five-year-old in Wakad do not need homework help. They need someone who can turn twenty minutes of play into listening, sounds, counting and a steadier grip on a crayon, without the child noticing that anything was taught. This guide, written by the NXTutors Academic Team for families in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad, explains when an early-years tutor is worth having, what a session should contain, how the languages at home and the board your child will join later shape the work, and how to plan visits around a Pune day of school vans, office traffic and monsoon afternoons.
Often not, and an honest tutor will say so. Plenty of children pick up letters and numbers at preschool and at the kitchen table without extra help. A short weekly arrangement makes sense in a handful of situations:
If none of these applies, books at bedtime and conversation at dinner may do more than any tutor. If your child is already in Class 1 or above, our primary home tutors in Pune page is the better starting point.
Good early-years tutors plan backwards from what a Class 1 teacher hopes to see: a child who can sit for a short story, hear the first sound in a word, count objects reliably and hold a pencil comfortably. Each session mixes three or four short activities rather than one long one.
| Area | What the tutor does | What you notice at home |
|---|---|---|
| Listening and talk | Reads aloud, asks "what happens next?", lets the child retell the story with pictures | Longer sentences and questions about books |
| Sounds before letters | Rhymes, clapping syllables, "I spy" with first sounds, then matching sounds to letter shapes | Your child points out letters on shop signs and packets |
| Number sense | Counting real things, comparing more and fewer, simple sorting, number songs | Counting stairs, rotis or cars without skipping |
| Hand control | Clay, beads, scissors, tracing big curves before small letters | A steadier grip and less tiredness when colouring |
| Sitting and turn-taking | Timers, a fixed start ritual, praise for waiting and finishing | Easier homework time and calmer mornings |
Writing full words, sums on paper and long worksheets come later. A tutor who opens with a stack of photocopied sheets for a three-year-old is teaching the wrong thing at the wrong age.
Pune homes are rarely single-language. Grandparents may speak Marathi, parents may work in English, and a family from elsewhere in India may add a third language at home. For a small child this is an advantage, not a problem, as long as each language is heard often and used warmly. Tell the tutor which language you want strengthened and which one the preschool uses, so sessions support both rather than compete.
The board your child will follow from Class 1 changes the emphasis a little. Some children will move into State Board schools, whose later SSC examination is conducted by the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education, headquartered in Pune; others will join CBSE, ICSE, IB or Cambridge schools. None of these boards sets an examination for nursery or KG, so the tutor should not be teaching to a test. What helps is knowing the medium of the school ahead: a child heading to an English-medium school benefits from daily English stories, while one joining a Marathi-medium school gains from Marathi rhymes and letters. Our Maharashtra Board tutors in Pune page explains the state board in later classes.
A smaller group of Pune families choose international schools. The IB describes its Primary Years Programme in the early years as inquiry-based learning through play for children aged three to five. Cambridge Early Years is a play-based programme for children aged three to six, covering areas such as communication and literacy, mathematics, personal, social and emotional development, and physical development.
For a tutor, both point the same way: follow the child's questions, talk a great deal, and record progress through what the child says and makes rather than marks. Ask the school for its unit or theme of the term, and the tutor can bring books and games on that theme so home and classroom reinforce each other. Our IB tutors in Pune page covers the later programmes.
Small children tire quickly, so a thirty- to forty-five-minute session at the right hour beats an hour at the wrong one. Late morning on preschool-free days, or soon after an afternoon nap, usually works. The travel picture differs across the seven zones we use for Pune:
| Zone | How tutors usually arrive | Slot that tends to work |
|---|---|---|
| Kothrud, Karve Nagar & Deccan | Aqua Line to Vanaz, Anand Nagar, Paud Phata or Deccan Gymkhana; two-wheeler for Karve Nagar and Warje | Late afternoon, before Paud Road slows |
| Aundh, Baner & Pashan | By road from the next suburb; no metro station open here yet | Weekend mornings, or after the office rush |
| Wakad, Hinjewadi & Pimpri-Chinchwad | Purple Line to Pimpri; suburban trains to Chinchwad and Akurdi; road for Wakad and Hinjewadi | Early evening, clear of IT-park traffic |
| Viman Nagar, Kalyani Nagar & Kharadi | Aqua Line to Yerwada, Kalyani Nagar or Ramwadi; road for Kharadi and Wagholi | After the evening wave on Nagar Road |
| Koregaon Park, Camp & Wanowrie | Bund Garden or Pune Railway Station metro; road for Wanowrie and Salunke Vihar | Weekday afternoons, away from weekend crowds |
| Hadapsar, Kondhwa & NIBM | Two-wheeler, bus or auto; no metro in the zone | Just after the school-van rush |
| Katraj, Bibwewadi & Sinhagad Road | Purple Line to Swargate, then bus or auto; or two-wheeler | Mid-afternoon, before Satara Road fills |
For this age, a tutor from your own zone is worth more than a slightly stronger profile across the city: short sessions only survive if the journey is short too.
Home, in almost every case. Young children learn through objects, movement and a real person sitting beside them, and a screen holds a four-year-old's attention for minutes, not an hour. Online can still play a supporting part: a ten-minute story call on a rainy June day keeps the habit going, and a parent can sit alongside while the tutor guides a game. If you do try online, keep it short, keep a parent present, and use real objects at your end. The home tutor versus online tutor comparison sets out the trade-offs for older children too.
The first class with the tutor you pick is a free demo. With a small child, watch the child more than the tutor:
If it does not feel right, another tutor from your shortlist can take a demo, and switching later costs nothing. Our demo class checklist has more questions.
Tutors who join go through an ID check: a one-time code for phone or email and a government photo ID reviewed by our team before the profile is marked Verified. It is not a police or background check, so these household habits still matter. If you would prefer a woman tutor, our female home tutors in Pune page shows how to ask.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Early-years sessions are usually shorter than an hour, and the tutor's journey at your chosen time also affects the quote. Each tutor sets their own fee and you see it before the demo. The pricing guide and our post on home tuition fees in Pune help with planning.
Model Colony, a planned mid-century pocket inside Shivajinagar with wide internal roads and plenty of trees, suits a tutor who walks in from the metro at Shivaji Nagar or Deccan Gymkhana. In Pashan, near the lake on the Ramnadi stream, tutors usually ride over from Baner or Bavdhan. Pimple Nilakh, on the north bank of the Mula facing Baner and Aundh, is a society neighbourhood where young families often prefer a tutor from the same side of the river.
In Vadgaon Sheri, whose central part many people call New Kalyani Nagar, Ramwadi station is the usual way in. Salunke Vihar is a quieter pocket between Wanowrie and Kondhwa with no station nearby, so a tutor on a two-wheeler from the south-east is the steadiest match. And in Dhankawadi, a village that joined the city in 1995, houses sit alongside newer apartment complexes, which makes doorstep visits easy.

A home tutor is often not needed for a nursery or KG child in Pune, and an honest tutor will say so. It helps most when the school language differs from home, worksheets have become a struggle, fine-motor skills lag, or a UKG child is about to start Class 1 at a new school.
A nursery or KG session in Pune should usually last thirty to forty-five minutes, split into three or four short activities. A story, a sound game, counting with real objects and something for the hands work well. Twice a week often works better than one long session, ideally after a nap or on a preschool-free morning.
Yes, a Pune early-years tutor can help with Marathi or English before Class 1, once you say which language the school uses and which you want strengthened. A family new to Pune may want Marathi rhymes and letters, and a Marathi-speaking family may want English stories. Sessions should support both languages.
A Pune pre-schooler should start writing letters with a tutor only once sounds, listening and hand strength are in place, which for most three-year-olds is not yet. Clay, beads, tracing big curves and naming the first sound in words build the base, and neat letters follow once the grip is steady. A pile of worksheets is a warning.
An early-years tutor should support a Pune child at an IB or Cambridge school with play-based, question-led sessions. That is how the IB early years and Cambridge Early Years describe their own approach. Cambridge Early Years covers ages three to six. Share the school's current theme so the tutor can pick books and games that link to class.
A Pune nursery or KG child can learn from an online tutor only in small doses, because young children learn through objects and a person beside them. Home visits are the main format. A ten-minute story call can keep the routine going on a rainy June day, with a parent alongside and real objects ready.
Pune parents keep early-years home visits safe by having an adult at home for every session and using a shared room, never a closed bedroom. Give the guard the tutor's name, tower and flat beforehand, and check the arrival matches the profile photo. Tutors who join go through an ID check, which is not a police check.
Late morning on preschool-free days, or soon after an afternoon nap, usually suits a KG tutor visit in Pune. Then fit it to your road: before Paud Road slows in Kothrud, clear of IT-park traffic in Wakad, or after the school-van rush in Hadapsar. A tutor from your own zone keeps short sessions viable.
In a nursery or KG demo in Pune, watch your child more than the tutor, starting with whether they warmed up after early shyness. Check the session mixed a story, a sound game, counting and a hand activity, and that the tutor talks at the child's level and names one strength and one target afterwards.
