Tutors who join go through an ID check. Tell us the class, board and your area: we share two or three matched tutors, each with their fee, and the first class is a free demo, at home or online.
Book a free demo classAcross NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

A commerce student in Class 11 or 12 carries four or five papers that look unrelated but lean on each other: accountancy needs commerce maths, economics needs clear graphs and definitions, and the theory papers need structured long answers. Families often hire for one subject and discover the gap is somewhere else. This guide from the NXTutors Academic Team sets out the commerce subjects on the HSC, CBSE and ISC routes Pune students take, how a tutor should approach each, whether one tutor or two makes more sense, where CUET and CA Foundation fit, and how to find a commerce tutor who can reach you anywhere from Pimpri-Chinchwad to Katraj.
| Board | Main commerce subjects | Tell the tutor |
|---|---|---|
| Maharashtra State Board (HSC) | Book Keeping & Accountancy (50), Organisation of Commerce & Management (51), Secretarial Practice (52), Economics (49), Mathematics & Statistics for Commerce (88); options such as Co-operation (53) and Information Technology (99) | The junior college's exact combination and the medium |
| CBSE | Accountancy (055), Business Studies (054), Economics (030), each 80 + 20; Applied Mathematics (241) or Mathematics | Which maths, and whether the school uses projects for internal marks |
| ISC (CISCE) | Accounts (858), Commerce (857), Economics (856), with English compulsory | The electives chosen; ISC fixes subjects early in Class 11 |
Subject pages for Pune: accountancy, economics and maths. Board pages: Maharashtra Board, CBSE and ICSE and ISC.
The State Board's own rules classify commerce-stream subjects as Mathematics and Statistics, Economics, Geography, Book-keeping and Accountancy, Organisation of Commerce, Secretarial Practice, Co-operation and Occupational Orientation. The current HSC subject list carries these forward under subject codes, some with updated names, such as Organisation of Commerce and Management. English is compulsory, and commerce students take a separate Mathematics and Statistics syllabus written for their stream. The HSC itself is held at the end of the second year of junior college.
For a tutor, three things follow:
Patterns and subject names change; take them from mahahsscboard.in and the junior college, not from old guides.
| Arrangement | Suits | Watch for |
|---|---|---|
| One tutor for accountancy and economics | A student a little behind in both, with the theory papers under control | Economics depth, especially graphs and statistics |
| Accountancy tutor plus a maths tutor | Students losing marks in both numerical subjects | Two timetables to coordinate with college |
| One "all-commerce" tutor | Class 11 students who need habits and an overview | Spread too thin by Class 12 |
| Accountancy at home, economics online | Families who want a specialist in each without two journeys | Notebook sharing for graphs online |
It usually pays to make accountancy the anchor subject, because its chapters build on each other and errors carry through a whole problem. Add a second tutor only where marks are clearly slipping.
| Paper | How marks slip away | The fix |
|---|---|---|
| Accountancy | Wrong side of the account, missing narrations, totals that do not tally, untidy columns | Format drills, a rule of checking totals before moving on, timed full problems |
| Economics | Unlabelled graphs, vague definitions, statistics calculations without working | Draw-and-explain practice; a definitions list learned word for word |
| Theory papers (OC, SP, Business Studies) | Paragraphs with no points or headings; examples missing | Point-wise answers in the textbook's order, each with one example |
| Commerce maths | Formula slips in ratios, percentages and statistics; skipped steps | Short daily sets and a formula sheet the student writes from memory |
A useful ninety minutes starts with the student's own attempt at the last homework problem, not the tutor's solution. The tutor then marks it as an examiner would, format and all, and teaches only what that attempt showed was missing. The middle of the session is one new idea with two or three graded problems; the last part is a short theory question answered in writing, so the theory papers are not left to the night before. Each session should end with a written task and a note of what will be checked next time. If your child leaves with neat notes but has not solved anything alone, the session was a lecture, not tuition.
Class 11 is where the foundations are laid: the accounting equation, journal and ledger, trial balance, and the first economics concepts. A tutor should insist on neat, ruled formats from the first week, because sloppy layouts cost marks that are hard to win back later. Commerce maths should be kept steady alongside, not left until the second year.
Class 12 brings longer problems and the board paper. A workable rhythm is chapter work through the monsoon term, full-length practice from the Diwali break onwards, preliminary exams, and then revision from a mistakes notebook. Keep internal tests and any project work complete; they are part of the result. See our Class 11 and Class 12 home tutors in Pune pages for the wider year.
CUET (UG), conducted by the National Testing Agency, is used for undergraduate admission to Central and participating universities; its domain subjects include Accountancy or Book Keeping, Economics or Business Economics, and Business Studies. A commerce tutor can align Class 12 revision with those papers, but check the current subject list and syllabus on cuet.nta.nic.in. Our CUET preparation guide explains the test.
The CA Foundation examination of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India has four papers: Accounting, Business Laws, Quantitative Aptitude and Business Economics. Strong Class 11–12 accountancy and commerce maths are the natural preparation; for eligibility and dates, go to icai.org rather than relying on a tutor's memory.
| Zone | Getting there | Lesson timing |
|---|---|---|
| Kothrud, Karve Nagar & Deccan | Deccan Gymkhana or Shivaji Nagar station; walk into Model Colony | After junior college, before the Deccan evening build-up |
| Aundh, Baner & Pashan | Two-wheeler via University Road or Baner Road | Later evening or weekend |
| Wakad, Hinjewadi & Pimpri-Chinchwad | Suburban train to Chinchwad; Purple Line to Pimpri | Weekday evenings on the rail side |
| Viman Nagar, Kalyani Nagar & Kharadi | Yerwada station on the Aqua Line | Clear of river-bridge office traffic |
| Koregaon Park, Camp & Wanowrie | Two-wheeler, bus or auto for Wanowrie; metro for Camp | Weekday after-college slots |
| Hadapsar, Kondhwa & NIBM | A tutor already in the south-east | After the school rush on NIBM Road |
| Katraj, Bibwewadi & Sinhagad Road | Swargate, then an auto up Satara Road | Avoid school and office peaks |
Commerce adapts to online lessons better than most streams. Ledgers, accounts and economics graphs can be shared on a screen or shown through a phone camera over the notebook, and a commerce student in Class 11 or 12 usually manages screen lessons well. Home tuition still helps a student who needs someone beside them through long accounts problems or who loses focus online. A practical pattern is one home session at the weekend for full problems and one online session midweek for theory and doubts. See our online tutors for Pune students page.
The first lesson with the tutor you pick is a free demo. If the fit is wrong, the next tutor on your shortlist can give a demo, and switching later is free. Tutors who join go through an ID check before their profile is marked Verified. See also our demo class checklist.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. For commerce, the number of subjects, the board and the tutor's journey at your hour shape the quote; each tutor sets their own fee and you see it before the demo. See the pricing guide and home tuition fees in Pune.
Commerce families in Model Colony, a short walk from the metro, and Aundh, along University Road, often have different options: the first can draw on tutors along both metro lines, the second leans on tutors who ride in. In Chinchwad, suburban trains help. Yerawada has its own Aqua Line station. Wanowrie, towards Hadapsar, and Bibwewadi, near Market Yard, are usually reached by two-wheeler.

The board's rules classify commerce-stream subjects as Mathematics and Statistics, Economics, Geography, Book-keeping and Accountancy, Organisation of Commerce, Secretarial Practice, Co-operation and Occupational Orientation. The current HSC list uses codes such as 50 for Book Keeping and Accountancy. Confirm your junior college's combination and check mahahsscboard.in for current names.
The board's scheme sets an 80-mark written board paper plus a 20-mark application-based internal test. So practical problem work counts beyond the written exam. A tutor should drill complete, ruled formats from Class 11 and keep internal work on track, because lost format marks are hard to recover later.
Usually one, with accountancy as the anchor subject, if the student is only a little behind. Add a second tutor where marks are clearly slipping, most often commerce maths or economics. An all-commerce tutor suits Class 11 habits but can be spread too thin by Class 12, when papers are longer.
No. The board publishes a separate Mathematics and Statistics syllabus for the commerce stream, and the HSC subject list gives it its own code. A tutor who teaches science maths should work from the commerce syllabus and textbook, not the science one, or the student will practise the wrong material.
Yes, alongside Class 12. CUET (UG) domain subjects include Accountancy or Book Keeping, Economics or Business Economics, and Business Studies, so revision can be aligned. CA Foundation has four papers: Accounting, Business Laws, Quantitative Aptitude and Business Economics. Check current details on cuet.nta.nic.in and icai.org.
Generally well. Ledgers, accounts and economics graphs can be shared on screen or through a phone camera over the notebook, and Class 11 and 12 students usually manage online lessons. A practical mix is a weekend home session for long problems and a midweek online session for theory and doubts.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour, with Classes 11 and 12 toward the upper end. The number of subjects, the board and the tutor's journey at your chosen hour shape the quote. Each tutor sets their own fee, and you see it before the free demo.
