Nursery and KG tutor jobs: teaching the youngest learners
A four-year-old does not need tuition in the way a Class 10 student does, and good early-years tutors know it. What parents of nursery and kindergarten children usually want is someone who can turn twenty minutes at the table into play that builds real skills: holding a pencil, hearing the sounds in a word, counting objects rather than reciting numbers, sitting still long enough to finish a small task. Done well, it gives a child confidence before school asks anything hard of them.

- Women tutors welcome
This page is for early-childhood teachers, Montessori-trained educators, primary teachers who enjoy the youngest children, and parents with experience who want to tutor nursery, LKG and UKG children through NXTutors. It covers what families ask for, how to plan sessions for short attention spans, safety and the parent's role, and how to show your approach in a demo. Joining is free, and nothing here promises students or income.

What parents of young children ask for
Requests at this age cluster around a few needs. Early reading: letter sounds, blending simple words, recognising common words. Early writing: pencil grip, tracing, forming letters and numbers correctly from the start. Number sense: counting objects, comparing more and less, simple patterns, shapes. And school readiness more broadly: listening, following a two-step instruction, finishing a task, managing a little frustration.
Some parents want support with what the playschool or kindergarten sends home; others want a calm, regular routine for a child who is shy or restless. A few ask for help in a home language or in English as a new language. Ask what the parent hopes to see in three months, and plan from that.
How a session should look
Keep sessions short, often thirty to forty-five minutes, and change activity every few minutes. A typical pattern might be a song or rhyme to settle, a sound or letter activity with objects or picture cards, a short fine-motor task such as tracing, playdough letters or threading, a counting game, and a story read aloud with questions. End while the child is still enjoying it.
Use real objects far more than worksheets. Counting buttons, sorting toys by colour, finding things in the house that start with a sound: these teach more at four than any printed page. Worksheets have a place, but as a short final task, not as the lesson.
Keep a simple note after each session: what the child enjoyed, what they managed alone, what to try next. Over a month it shows the parent real progress, such as a child who now blends three-letter words or counts to twenty with objects, without anyone resorting to tests at an age when tests do more harm than good.
Phonics and early number done properly
If you teach reading, teach sounds before letter names and model them cleanly, without adding an extra vowel to each consonant. Blend simple consonant-vowel-consonant words orally before the child sees them written. Many parents learned letters by name and are surprised by this approach; explain it briefly so they reinforce it rather than undo it.
In number work, separate counting by rote from counting with meaning. A child who can recite to fifty may not know that the last number counted tells you how many there are. Practise one-to-one counting with objects, comparing groups, and simple adding by combining real things, long before written sums.
Safety and the parent's role
With children this young, a parent or another trusted adult should be at home and nearby during every lesson, ideally in the same room for the first sessions. Teach in a shared space, never behind a closed door, and never photograph or record the child without the parent's explicit consent. Talk with the parent at the start and end of each session; a two-minute handover builds trust and helps them continue at home.
Be careful with materials: no small items a toddler could swallow, nothing sharp, no food without asking the parent. The full rules are in the Safeguarding Policy at /safeguarding-policy, and they apply at every age, but they matter most with the youngest children.
Home or online for under-sixes?
Most families prefer home lessons at this age, because young children learn with their hands and attention drifts quickly on a screen. If you teach online, keep sessions very short, involve the parent as a helper who holds up objects and turns the camera, and plan the activities around things already in the house.
Home lessons for nursery and KG children are usually daytime or early evening, since these children nap and sleep early. Keep your travel areas close enough that you arrive calm and on time; home requests reach you only for the areas you list.
Your background and the demo
Families often look for an early-childhood, Montessori or nursery-teacher training qualification, or real experience with young children, but NXTutors sets no minimum qualification and your profile must simply be true. Describe your approach in plain words: play-based, phonics first, short sessions, regular notes for the parent.
Requests reach you as masked leads showing the child's class, the need, the area, the timing and a budget band, never the family's name or number. The first class with a family you are matched with is a free demo. Bring a small bag of materials, such as picture cards, a few counters and a short book, and let the parent watch the child enjoy learning. You set your own fee and the family sees it before the demo; see how you get paid in the section below.

Women tutors welcome
For women tutors: you set the terms
Women tutors are welcome on NXTutors, for home classes, online classes or both. You decide how, where and when you teach. These are the controls the product gives you, and the habits our safeguarding policy asks of tutors and families.
- Choose home, online or hybrid teaching on your profile, and change it whenever you like.
- List the areas you travel to: home requests come only from those areas.
- Set your own days and timings; requests are matched to the hours you give.
- Every match starts with a demo class, and our safeguarding policy asks the parent to be at home for it.
- Teach where a parent or another adult is at home; in gated societies the family adds you to the gate or visitor register.
- Keep messages with the parent or a family group, never a child's private chat.
- Every tutor who joins goes through the same ID check. It confirms identity; it is not a police check.
- Stop any time. If anything worries you, stop the classes and tell us on WhatsApp or through the contact page.
Read the safeguarding policy and how the ID check works.
Why tutors choose NXTutors
What is different from a directory listing or a tuition bureau.
-
You set your fee
Your fee per class is on your profile, and families see it before the demo, so there is no haggling after a good class.
-
Matched, nearest first
Each request goes to two or three tutors who fit it, nearest first, not to a long list of people chasing the same family.
-
Demo first
The first class is a free demo. Families decide after meeting you, not from a phone call or a price list.
-
No made-up leads
We never show invented requests. The only request details on these pages are real and anonymised, and only once there are three or more.
-
An ID check for everyone
Every tutor who joins goes through the same ID check. Real tutors who pass carry the Verified badge; sample profiles are always labelled.
-
AI-first, with real teachers
Parents can ask NXT AI about your profile and compare tutors side by side. The teaching is always yours.
Tutor plans and what each includes
Tutor plans are listed on our pricing page with what each one includes. Read them before you apply; we do not quote prices on this page. Tutors are independent: you set your own fee, and families pay you for the classes they take.
Questions from tutors
How long should a nursery or KG tuition session be?
Usually thirty to forty-five minutes, broken into short activities of a few minutes each. Agree the length with the parent, and end while the child is still enjoying it.
Should a parent stay at home during the lesson?
Yes. With young children a parent or trusted adult should be at home and nearby during every lesson, ideally in the same room at first. Teach in a shared space, and see /safeguarding-policy.
Is online tuition suitable for nursery and KG children?
It can work in very short sessions with the parent helping, but most families prefer home lessons at this age because young children learn far more readily with real objects they can hold and move.
Do I need a Montessori or early-childhood qualification?
No. NXTutors sets no minimum qualification, though such training is valued by many parents. Your profile must be true, and families judge your approach mainly in the free demo.
Should I use worksheets with a four-year-old?
Sparingly. Real objects, games, songs and stories teach more at this age. A short worksheet can close a session, but it should not be the lesson.
Is there any cost to join as a nursery and KG tutor?
No. Joining, onboarding and the Free plan are free, and the Free plan includes monthly lead credits. Paid plans are optional and never needed to apply for a tuition.
