Science tutor jobs in Mumbai for Classes 6 to 10

Middle-school science is where many Mumbai families first look for a tutor. Up to Class 8 the subject feels manageable; in Class 9 physics, chemistry and biology start to pull apart, and the gaps left that year show up in the Class 10 board. Parents who missed that shift often want someone who can rebuild the basics and then carry the student through to the board paper.

If you teach general science for Classes 6 to 10, Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai offer requests across three very different papers: the Maharashtra State Board's SSC, CBSE and ICSE. This page explains how each one is set, where in the region a science tutor can travel without losing half the evening, and what makes a family keep a science tutor after the free demo.

Who asks for science tutors in Mumbai

The SSC paper is the one most worth understanding before your first demo. The Maharashtra State Board sets Science and Technology in Class 10 as two 40-mark activity sheets, written on different days. Students therefore prepare two sets of chapters as two separate exams, and a tutor who plans revision that way, rather than as one block of science, matches how the student will actually sit it. Schools teach in Marathi or English medium, so a family will often ask which medium you can teach in.

CBSE science in Classes 9 and 10 is built on the NCERT books, with case-based and application questions that ask the student to use a concept, not just recall it. A CBSE tutor starts from the textbook, practises with the board's sample papers and marking schemes on cbseacademic.nic.in, and makes the student write each step. ICSE, set by CISCE, treats physics, chemistry and biology as three sciences with long, precise answers, so an ICSE family may want one tutor for all three or a specialist for the one that is slipping.

Below Class 9, requests are more about habits than papers: understanding a chapter rather than memorising it, labelled diagrams, simple numericals, and a notebook the school teacher will accept. Many of these families want one or two lessons a week, sometimes with maths in the same visit. That is steady, well-paced work for a tutor who can explain clearly at the table.

Where in Mumbai the work is

Science lessons for younger students are usually after school, so the commute you pick has to work in the late afternoon. On the Western line, a tutor near Malad can serve Goregaon & Malad and reach Kandivali, Borivali & Dahisar or Andheri & Jogeshwari by train or by Line 2A along Link Road and Line 7 along the highway. On the Central side, Ghatkopar is where Line 1 meets the Central line, so a tutor there can reach Chembur, Ghatkopar & Powai and still cross to Andheri without changing at Dadar.

Some pockets need a plan. Powai has no station, and tutors come from Kanjurmarg by auto. In Navi Mumbai, the Navi Mumbai metro now reaches Kharghar sectors away from the railway, and the Trans-Harbour line ties Airoli, Ghansoli and Kopar Khairane to Thane. South Mumbai and Worli, Dadar & Central Mumbai are reachable from almost anywhere on Line 3 or through Dadar, but lobby desks there want your name in advance.

What families in Mumbai expect

  • Clear explanations at the right level, so a Class 7 student can tell you back what a chapter means in their own words.
  • For SSC Class 10, a revision plan that treats the two Science and Technology papers as separate exams on separate days.
  • For CBSE, NCERT first, then sample papers and the published marking schemes.
  • For ICSE, the patience to build long, exact written answers across physics, chemistry and biology.
  • Neat labelled diagrams and correctly written units, checked every lesson.
  • Short weekly chapter tests, so the parent can see whether the student is keeping up.
  • A willingness to switch a lesson online during monsoon downpours instead of cancelling.

How to get picked

On your profile, say which boards and classes you teach science for and whether you take all three sciences or one. If you teach SSC science in Marathi medium, say so; it narrows the field in your favour. List your stations or zones honestly. A parent sees two or three tutors with fees shown, so a profile that answers their questions before they ask is the one that gets the demo.

In the demo, pick a chapter the student is studying now. Ask a couple of questions to see what is missing, explain one idea with a diagram the student draws, then set one board-style question and mark it. Finish by telling the parent what the next four weeks look like. Families can try another tutor later without cost to them, so steady attendance and visible progress are what keep a science student with you.

Joining, leads and pay

Joining is free

Applying, onboarding, building your profile, the ID check and receiving matched requests on the Free plan cost nothing. The Free plan gives you 160 lead credits every month.

Paid plans are optional

Pro, Premium and Featured are optional platform subscriptions: more visibility, AI tools and more lead credits. They are never a fee to apply for a tuition. See tutor plans.

How leads and credits work

A family request that fits your subjects, classes, board, areas and hours reaches your dashboard. Opening the family's contact details uses lead credits, and the credit price is shown on the request before you open it. At most 5 tutors can open one request, and a request stays open for 7 days. Credit packs are there if you need more.

How you get paid

You set your own fee. When a family pays for classes through NXTutors, you receive 50% of the fee for home tuition in the first month and the full fee after that, and 70% of the fee for online tuition every month. Payments are held for 7 days, then paid out weekly. How you get paid.

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more.

Questions from tutors

What does an SSC Class 10 science tutor need to know?

That Science and Technology is written as two 40-mark activity sheets on different days, from the state's own textbooks. Plan revision as two exams, use past papers from the board, and check the current evaluation scheme on mahahsscboard.in before you start.

Do ICSE families want one tutor for all three sciences?

Some do and some want a specialist for the weakest of physics, chemistry and biology. State clearly which you teach. If you cover all three for ICSE Classes 9 and 10, put that on your profile so you are considered for both kinds of request.

Are science lessons in Mumbai mostly at home or online?

For Classes 6 to 10, many families prefer a tutor at the table, especially for diagrams and written answers. Online works well as a backup on heavy-rain days or when a family lives far along a line. You can offer home, online or both and change the setting any week.

I live in Navi Mumbai. Can I get science requests near home?

Yes, if you list Navi Mumbai and the nodes you can reach. Homes are easy to find by node, sector and plot, and families there are usually matched first with tutors from their own or a neighbouring node, which suits a tutor who already lives across the creek.

How do I show a parent that my science teaching works?

Use the demo to mark one board-style answer, then keep a short weekly test going and share the results with the parent. Progress the family can see is the strongest reason for them to stay, since switching tutor costs them nothing.

When in the year do science requests come in?

Throughout the year, but the calendar differs by board. CBSE's session opens in April, many State Board schools reopen in June after the summer break, and international schools follow their own terms. Class 10 families often look for help before the monsoon to repair last year's gaps, and again when preliminary exams approach in winter. Keep your availability current so you are matched whenever a request arrives.
