Now taking on home, online and hybrid tutors · in Mumbai
A primary tutor in Mumbai often becomes part of a household's weekly rhythm. The lesson is after school, at the dining table, with a parent somewhere in the flat, and the work is the slow building of habits: reading with understanding, mental arithmetic, fractions, early algebra and a notebook the class teacher will accept. Many families want one or two lessons a week, and many want one tutor for every subject.
No open primary (class 1–5) requests in Mumbai right now. New family requests appear here as they come in; join now so they can reach you.
This is the most local kind of tuition work in the city. Young children are rarely taught online for long, and parents prefer a tutor who lives close enough to come in any weather. If you enjoy teaching younger children, and can stay patient through the twentieth reading of the same paragraph, this page explains how primary tutoring works across Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai and how to be the tutor a family keeps for years.
Primary and junior-class requests cover the full range of Mumbai's boards: State Board schools in Marathi and English medium, CBSE, ICSE, and international schools, including the IB Primary Years Programme. The board matters less in the early years than it does later, but the textbook and the school's homework style still shape the week, so ask to see the books at the first visit. Children in this city also often study a second or third language, and families welcome a tutor who can help with Hindi or Marathi as well as English.
The subjects are the foundations. Reading with understanding, so that a child can tell you what a paragraph meant, not just read it aloud. Number sense, times tables, mental arithmetic and then fractions and early algebra in the upper primary years. Neat handwriting and a notebook kept in order. Environmental studies or general science and social studies, taught with questions rather than copying. Parents notice quickly when a child starts explaining things back to them.
Timing follows the school calendar. CBSE's session opens in April, many State Board schools reopen in June after the summer break, and international schools follow their own terms, so requests come in at different points of the year depending on the school. The monsoon months are when a dependable tutor shows their value: lessons keep going, and if the rain is too heavy, a short online session keeps the routine.
For primary work, think in walking distance and one short ride. In Kandivali, Borivali & Dahisar, Charkop's numbered sectors make homes easy to find once you have sector and plot, and its row houses usually mean a knock on the door; the large townships in Kandivali East check visitors at the gate. In Goregaon & Malad, the long-settled pockets of Goregaon West and the compact cooperative societies of Bangur Nagar suit a tutor who lives nearby.
On the Central side, Mulund's grid streets are easy to walk from the station, and Thane's Naupada and Kopri are a short walk from Thane station. In Navi Mumbai, CIDCO's sectors make addresses simple, and a tutor from the same node can come by two-wheeler or on foot. In Worli, Dadar & Central Mumbai, the older buildings of Dadar, Matunga and Sion often have no gate formality at all.
On your profile, list the classes you teach, the boards whose textbooks you know, and the languages you can teach or explain in. If you have taught in a primary school or run a reading programme, say so simply. Mark your hours honestly, usually late afternoon and early evening for this age group, and list only zones you can reach easily on foot or in one ride.
At the free demo, a parent will be at home. Spend the first few minutes getting the child talking, then ask them to read a short passage and do a few sums, so you can see what is missing. Teach one small thing well and let the child show the parent what they learned. Before you leave, suggest a weekly rhythm and what you will focus on in the first month. Families can switch tutor later at no cost, so trust built week by week is what keeps a primary student with you.

Pro, Premium and Featured are optional platform subscriptions: more visibility, AI tools and more lead credits. They are never a fee to apply for a tuition. See tutor plans.
A family request that fits your subjects, classes, board, areas and hours reaches your dashboard. Opening the family's contact details uses lead credits, and the credit price is shown on the request before you open it. At most 5 tutors can open one request, and a request stays open for 7 days. Credit packs are there if you need more.
You set your own fee. When a family pays for classes through NXTutors, you receive 50% of the fee for home tuition in the first month and the full fee after that, and 70% of the fee for online tuition every month. Payments are held for 7 days, then paid out weekly. How you get paid.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more.
Often, yes. Many tutors take every subject for primary classes, sometimes with a second language. If you teach only maths and English, or only up to Class 5, say so on your profile and you will be matched to requests that fit.
Mostly at home. Young children usually learn better with a tutor at the table, and parents prefer someone nearby. Online sessions work as a short fallback on heavy-rain days or for an older primary child who is already used to screens.
Yes, if you can. The State Board recognises Marathi- and English-medium schools, and a tutor who teaches in Marathi, or helps with Marathi as a subject, fits requests that others cannot. Add the medium and languages to your profile.
For the free demo, a parent is at home. For regular lessons with young children, teach where an adult can see the lesson, and deal with a parent on fees, timing and messages. These habits protect both you and the family.
Not far. Short, after-school lessons rarely justify a long train ride or a crossing at peak hour. List the zones around your own station and widen only if the journey is simple, such as one metro ride along Link Road or the highway.
Very little: a few short reading passages at different levels, some arithmetic questions for the child's class, and a notebook for the parent to see what you covered. Ask the family to have the school textbooks and the latest homework ready. Before the first visit, check whether your name needs to go to a watchman, a lobby desk or a visitor app, and get the wing, flat number and a map pin.
