Now taking on home, online and hybrid tutors · in Mumbai
An entrance-exam student in Mumbai has a crowded week. Junior college lectures in the day, coaching on several evenings, a local train in between, and the HSC, CBSE or ISC board paper waiting at the end of Class 12. Families who look for a JEE, NEET or MHT-CET tutor are rarely trying to replace the coaching class; they want someone who fits into that week and makes it work.
No open jee and neet requests in Mumbai right now. New family requests appear here as they come in; join now so they can reach you.
That shapes the job. The tutor who succeeds here clears backlog, protects board marks and lifts the weakest subject, in short sessions that respect the student's time. This page covers the three tests Mumbai students prepare for, where an entrance tutor can travel in the region, what these families expect, and how to show in a single demo that you are worth a slot in that week.
Three tests shape most requests. JEE Main, run by NTA, has two sessions in the first half of the year, and candidates who qualify go on to JEE Advanced. NEET UG is held once a year, with biology carrying half of the marks, so NEET students often want a biology specialist and a physics tutor separately. Maharashtra also holds its own state entrance test, the MHT-CET, conducted by the State CET Cell in PCM and PCB groups. Take the syllabus, pattern and dates of every test only from the official notices on NTA's sites and on cetcell.mahacet.org.
Most students sit at least two of these alongside a board. An HSC Science student may be preparing for MHT-CET and JEE Main; a CBSE student may be aiming at NEET with MHT-CET PCB as well. Because the board and entrance syllabuses overlap heavily, families value a tutor who builds one revision plan that serves both, rather than separate tracks that compete for the same evenings.
The three jobs a tutor is most often asked to do are consistent across the city. Clearing the coaching backlog: one weekly session on the sheets and test questions that went wrong, so doubts do not pile up. Protecting board marks: making sure written board answers stay strong while the student drills objective questions. Lifting the weakest subject: extra hours where the total is being pulled down, which pays back faster than spreading time evenly.
Entrance students have the least spare time of any, so the commute must cost them nothing and cost you as little as possible. Short online doubt sessions fit well when coaching runs late, and many tutors teach entrance students almost entirely online. For home lessons, base yourself near an interchange: Andheri, where Metro Lines 1, 2A, 3 and 7 meet the Western and Harbour lines, reaches Andheri & Jogeshwari and Goregaon & Malad; Dadar, on both main lines, reaches Worli, Dadar & Central Mumbai.
In Chembur, Ghatkopar & Powai, Powai has no station and the link road past the lake is among the busiest at office hours, so weekend home lessons and weekday online sessions are a common split there. In Navi Mumbai, the Navi Mumbai metro serves Kharghar, which is described as a growing education hub, and Nerul has many colleges and three rail lines. In Thane, a tutor living along Ghodbunder Road is far easier to schedule there than one crossing from the station side.
On your profile, state exactly what you teach: for example JEE Main and Advanced maths, NEET biology, or MHT-CET PCM physics, along with the boards whose papers you know. Note whether you teach at home, online or both, and keep your free hours current, since entrance students' availability changes with each coaching timetable.
In the demo, ask for the student's last coaching test and work through two questions they got wrong. Find the gap in the concept, not just the arithmetic, and have them solve a fresh question alone. Then tell the parent how you would split the next month between backlog, the weakest topic and board answers. Families can switch tutor later at no cost to them, so being punctual, focused and honest about progress is what keeps an entrance student with you through the year.
Keep the parent informed without overwhelming them. A two-line message after each session, saying what was cleared and what is next, builds trust with families who are paying for coaching, junior college and tuition at once. Before every test season, share a short plan for the final weeks: which topics get revised, how many timed papers the student will sit, and when the online sessions will replace home visits so travel does not eat into revision time.

A family request that fits your subjects, classes, board, areas and hours reaches your dashboard. Opening the family's contact details uses lead credits, and the credit price is shown on the request before you open it. At most 5 tutors can open one request, and a request stays open for 7 days. Credit packs are there if you need more.
You set your own fee. When a family pays for classes through NXTutors, you receive 50% of the fee for home tuition in the first month and the full fee after that, and 70% of the fee for online tuition every month. Payments are held for 7 days, then paid out weekly. How you get paid.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more.
Usually alongside it. The tutor clears what went wrong in coaching tests, keeps board marks safe and adds hours on the weakest subject. Present yourself as working with the student's coaching plan, not replacing it.
It is Maharashtra's own state entrance test, conducted by the State CET Cell, with PCM and PCB groups. Many Mumbai science students take it alongside JEE or NEET. Use only the current official notice on cetcell.mahacet.org for its syllabus, pattern and dates.
Yes. Online requests are matched on subject, class and exam, not your address. Many entrance tutors work mostly online, with short doubt sessions on coaching evenings, and keep a few home students near their own station.
Offer what you teach at entrance level. Many families want a specialist for the one subject pulling the total down, such as NEET biology or JEE maths. A profile that claims three subjects but shows depth in one is less convincing than an honest single-subject profile.
At many points. Some start in Class 11 when junior college and coaching begin, others in Class 12 when backlog appears, and some in the last months before JEE Main, NEET UG or MHT-CET. Keep your profile and hours current all year.
