Now taking on home, online and hybrid tutors · in Sri Vijaya Puram (Port Blair)
When the monsoon sets in over Sri Vijaya Puram, the tutors who keep their science students on track are usually the ones who agreed a plan in advance: fixed home days in their own zone and online sessions for the weeks when travel is hard. That practical side matters here as much as the syllabus. Science tuition in the island capital, still widely called Port Blair, means CBSE work for Classes 6 to 10, often for children who learn in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu or Bengali before, or alongside, English. This page describes what families need and how a tutor gets chosen.

There are no job adverts on NXTutors. A parent sends the class, the medium and the locality; we suggest two or three tutors, starting in that locality, then the zone, the city and online. The parent sees your fee before booking a free demo. You choose your classes, localities and mode, and you set your own fee. Class 11 and 12 students usually ask for physics, chemistry or biology by name.
The South Andaman district administration states that all secondary and senior secondary schools are affiliated to CBSE, so Class 10 science here means the CBSE paper: 80 board marks plus 20 school marks for periodic assessment, multiple assessment, the portfolio and practical work. The 2026-27 curriculum gives Chemical Substances and World of Living 25 marks each, Effects of Current 13, Natural Phenomena 12 and Our Environment 5, and the sample paper groups the questions as biology 30, chemistry 25 and physics 25, each with its own case study and its own long answer. Of the 39 questions, twenty carry one mark, and half the paper asks for more than recall: 30 per cent application and 20 per cent analysis and evaluation.
Families want three skills drilled. Exact chemistry: equations balanced with state symbols and observations written as an examiner expects, a colour change, a gas given off, a precipitate formed. Labelled biology: diagrams drawn neatly and processes such as digestion, reflex action and inheritance explained in order. Disciplined physics: the formula stated before numbers go in, the sign convention used for mirrors and lenses, and arrows on every ray and circuit. Class 9 has a common science paper and an optional Advanced paper of 25 marks in one hour, which does not count in the aggregate, and parents may ask whether their child should try it.
The language of science is the other big need. The district lists five mediums of education, and research we hold for the city notes Hindi- and Telugu-medium senior secondary schooling at Haddo and a Tamil-medium primary school on the Aberdeen side. A child who learnt photosynthesis or refraction under another word needs the science and the English vocabulary taught together. Several government CBSE schools in Junglighat & Central Localities make Class 9 and 10 practice a regular request in that zone.
Aberdeen & Old Town is the old centre around the clock tower, with Aberdeen Bazaar, the inter-island jetty at Phoenix Bay and Haddo's quarters blocks and family houses. Schedule home lessons before the evening shopping crowd and away from ship departures, and ask for the lane name and a landmark where homes sit above shops or off the bazaar. Haddo families may want explanations in Hindi or Telugu, which suits a tutor who can give them.
Junglighat & Central Localities, Junglighat, Delanipur, School Line, Dairy Farm and Bathubasti, mixes family houses, government quarters and apartment buildings around the Bathubasti bazaar; ask for the block or flat number and where to park, and arrive before the evening market rush. The Expansion Villages, Dollygunj, Garacharma, Prothrapur, Brookshabad and Austinabad, are mostly houses on their own plots, with newer lanes that need a map pin. A tutor based in the centre can offer fixed days there plus online sessions, which also covers monsoon weeks.
Make your profile answer the questions island parents ask first. Name the CBSE classes you teach, list every language you can explain science in, and add the localities you can reach, for example Junglighat and Delanipur, or Garacharma and Dollygunj on fixed days. A line describing your three-skill approach, exact chemistry, labelled biology and disciplined physics, tells a parent you know where marks are lost.
In the demo, open the child's NCERT book and notebook, choose one wrong answer and find out whether the trouble is the idea, the vocabulary or the working. Fix it with a labelled diagram or a balanced equation, and add the new terms to the child's glossary. Agree home days and an online fallback for ship days and the monsoon, and see how you get paid before settling the timetable.

A family request that fits your subjects, classes, board, areas and hours reaches your dashboard. Opening the family's contact details uses lead credits, and the credit price is shown on the request before you open it. At most 5 tutors can open one request, and a request stays open for 7 days. Credit packs are there if you need more.
You set your own fee. When a family pays for classes through NXTutors, you receive 50% of the fee for home tuition in the first month and the full fee after that, and 70% of the fee for online tuition every month. Payments are held for 7 days, then paid out weekly. How you get paid.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more.
CBSE, almost without exception, since the district administration states that all secondary and senior secondary schools are CBSE-affiliated. Teach from NCERT and the board's sample papers.
Explain the idea in the child's medium where it helps, build a two-language glossary of terms, and practise writing answers in the language the board paper will be answered in.
It is a 25-mark, one-hour paper that does not count in the aggregate. Discuss it with the parent based on the child's interest and current grasp of the common syllabus.
The central zones, Aberdeen & Old Town and Junglighat & Central Localities, are compact. The Expansion Villages are a longer trip, so many tutors cover them on fixed days or online.
