Tutoring in Sri Vijaya Puram (Port Blair): what to know
Tuition work in Sri Vijaya Puram, the island capital officially known as Port Blair until 2024, falls into three zones on our map. Aberdeen & Old Town takes in Aberdeen Bazaar, Phoenix Bay and Haddo; Junglighat & Central Localities covers Junglighat, Delanipur, School Line, Dairy Farm and Bathubasti; and the Expansion Villages are Dollygunj, Garacharma, Prothrapur, Brookshabad and Austinabad, named in the 2011 plan to widen the municipal limits. Homes range from flats above shops and apartment buildings in the centre to government quarters blocks and houses on their own plots towards the edge, so arriving may mean finding a block number, a flat number or simply a front door on a lane.
For boards, CBSE is the one to know thoroughly. The South Andaman district administration's education page states that all the senior secondary and secondary schools are affiliated to CBSE, so expect NCERT-based school work, CBSE sample papers and board-style answers in Classes 10 and 12. What differs is the classroom language: the same page lists five mediums of education in the islands, English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Bengali, and Haddo alone has Hindi- and Telugu-medium senior secondary schools. If you can explain in one of those languages as well as English, say so. A student may instead follow ICSE, ISC, the IB or IGCSE; such learners can be taught at home or online.
Timing and travel shape a tutor's week here. The bazaar lanes fill on shopping evenings, Phoenix Bay is busy around inter-island ship days, and homes in the Expansion Villages are a longer trip from the centre, so a workable pattern is central evenings for home visits and outer localities on fixed days or online. Say a Garacharma parent sends a request: NXTutors puts forward two or three tutors, checking that locality first, then its zone, then the whole city, then online. Parents see your fee ahead of the free first demo and may change tutor later without paying, so steady teaching is what keeps a student. Online, you can also teach learners anywhere in India.

A family nearby sends a request
A parent in Delanipur or Phoenix Bay sends a request. NXTutors suggests two or three tutors, starting with those nearest the family, then the zone, then the whole city, then online.
-
5
Free demo; the family sees your fee first
Your fee is visible to the parent in advance. Lesson one is a free demo at their home, and we ask a parent to be at home for the demo, giving you a look at the student, household and journey.

Teach at home, online or both
Then teach the students you can reach at home, online learners anywhere in India, or a mix, say home lessons in the central localities and online classes for Garacharma or Austinabad on monsoon evenings.
Boards you can teach in Sri Vijaya Puram (Port Blair)
CBSE comes first in Sri Vijaya Puram: the South Andaman district administration states that all senior secondary and secondary schools are affiliated to CBSE, and no separate island school board is named on the official pages. Read the curriculum and sample papers on CBSE's academic website. The district page lists five mediums of education, English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Bengali, so note on your profile any language you teach in. A student may instead follow CISCE's ICSE or ISC, the IB or an IGCSE; check each on its official site and ask the family which board the school follows.
The South Andaman district administration states that all secondary and senior secondary schools in the islands are CBSE-affiliated, so this is the board nearly every island student takes. Teach from NCERT chapters, practise with CBSE's own sample papers and marking schemes, and ask which medium the child studies in, since Hindi-, Tamil- and Telugu-medium classes also follow CBSE.
CISCE
ICSE (Class 10), ISC (Class 12)
A Sri Vijaya Puram student on the CISCE track needs a tutor at ease with long written answers, set texts in English literature and project work marked inside the school. Such students can be taught at home in your own zone or online. Take regulations and specimen papers straight from cisce.org, not from files passed around on messaging apps.
IB
Classes 11–12, two-year Diploma
IB Diploma students can be taught from Sri Vijaya Puram online as well as at home. Both the Internal Assessment and the Extended Essay are part of the Diploma, so guide the student on the criteria and the command terms in each subject guide on ibo.org, while making sure the submitted work stays entirely the student's own.
Before the first lesson with an IGCSE learner, find out whether the school enters Cambridge or Pearson Edexcel papers, because the syllabuses are not the same. Work through timed past papers marked against the published schemes, show what each command word is asking for, and agree the correct tier early. Online teaching lets you take such students from any city.
