Tutors who join go through an ID check. Tell us the class, board and your area: we share two or three matched tutors, each with their fee, and the first class is a free demo, at home or online.
Book a free demo classAcross NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

A parent's first thought is usually a tutor who can come home. That instinct is sound, and for plenty of children a visiting tutor is still the right plan. Live one-to-one lessons over video can still earn a place in a Durgapur family's week, for practical reasons: the Statistics or ISC elective teacher they need lives in another city, their home is in one of the census towns at the edge of the urban area, or a long school day leaves only a short evening. Below, the NXTutors Academic Team sets out where online lessons fit a Durgapur student, where they do not, how to arrange them on our site, and how to run a blended plan with one tutor.
Higher Secondary Statistics or Computer Science, an ISC elective, IGCSE or IB papers, or the hardest entrance problems: for these, the local pool can be thin. Going online lets you compare tutors from across India and pick the strongest teacher for that one paper.
Arra and Bamunara sit just outside the corporation area. Fewer tutors live there, and a weekly trip from the other side of Durgapur is a lot to ask for a year. Online removes the trip entirely.
Under the state board's calendar, schools run until half past four on six days. Once a child is home, has eaten and rested, there is room for one focused screen lesson rather than waiting for a tutor to arrive.
The Higher Secondary September semesters are all one-mark questions. Ten-minute timed sets, checked on the spot, two or three evenings a week, suit a screen far better than a home visit.
These are stages rather than verdicts. After a term with a home tutor, a child can often move part of the week online without losing ground.
| Locality | A plan families use | The local reason |
|---|---|---|
| Arra | A visiting tutor from the Shankarpur or Muchipara side, with online for any specialist | Just beyond the corporation boundary, so few tutors live inside it |
| Bamunara | Online kept ready for every subject | Beside National Highway 19 at the edge of the city; home tutors mostly come from Muchipara |
| Shankarpur | Home lessons for primary children; online for a Class 11 or 12 elective | Neighbouring Bidhannagar and Saptarshi Park supply local tutors |
| Saptarshi Park | Weekday evenings online, one longer weekend visit | In homes where both parents work, a parent can join the weekend handover |
| Sagarbhanga | Mostly at home, timed for when an adult is in | Old lanes and paras reward a tutor who already knows the way |
| Palashdiha | School subjects at home; entrance papers reviewed online | Narrow lanes off the Grand Trunk Road side; a nearby tutor plus a remote specialist |
For more about these areas, see the Muchipara, Sagarbhanga and Arra, Bidhannagar and Shankarpur and Fuljhore, Mamra and Palashdiha zone pages, or our city-wide Durgapur guide.
| Course | Works well online | Better in person |
|---|---|---|
| Madhyamik and Higher Secondary | One-mark drills before September; an HS elective taught by someone far away | Long Bengali-medium answers that need line-by-line marking |
| CBSE | Case-based passages read together on a shared screen; Class 11 and 12 subjects | The middle-school years, or any child who will not settle on a call |
| ICSE and ISC | Literature and ISC electives taught by scarce specialists | ICSE maths and the three science papers, where each line is marked |
| JEE and NEET | Doubt clearing, recall quizzes in biology and chemistry, test post-mortems | Setting up physics problems with the tutor watching |
A state-board point: the Council bans calculators in every Higher Secondary semester paper, so an online maths or accountancy tutor must see the arithmetic done by hand on camera. For the courses themselves, read our Durgapur pages on the West Bengal board, CBSE, ICSE, JEE and NEET.
Online tutors may show up even on a home-tuition search. A Durgapur locality page lists tutors in that locality first, then its zone, then the city, and only then online tutors elsewhere in West Bengal and India; each card says where the tutor is based. Tutors who join go through an ID check; the Verified badge appears only after the ID check is complete (how we check tutors). That is a check of identity, not of police records or background, so judge the teaching yourself in the demo.
For any subject where marks come from written steps, the tutor needs to see the pen moving, not a photograph sent later. A simple kit covers it:
Try every piece during the free demo. Our online versus offline tutoring article has further tips.
Over the first four weeks, keep an eye on a few simple things. Is your child doing most of the talking and writing? When a step goes wrong, does the tutor ask a question that lets your child spot it? Are both cameras on every time? Is practice drawn from your child's own course, such as the Council's question pattern, CBSE sample papers or the CISCE's specimen papers? Does each lesson close with a short note of what was done and what comes next? If the answer to most of these is no, or the tutor mostly shares slides, ask for a change. More questions are in our checklist for demo classes.
Wherever possible, keep one person for both. Knowing your child's habits and slips matters more than which format a lesson uses.
| If this happens | Try this |
|---|---|
| Handwriting is unreadable on camera | Darker pen, camera directly above, or switch to a stylus |
| The call keeps dropping | Move to the hotspot; ask for questions to be sent in advance |
| Your child goes quiet | The tutor asks for every step to be said out loud |
| Nothing is written down | A single shared notes file, added to each time |
| Lessons get postponed | Fix one slot in the demo and put it on the family calendar |
For safety, keep the device in a shared room, send links and homework to a parent or a group a parent belongs to, keep both cameras on, and keep messages on the agreed platform. With young children, an adult should be within earshot for the first few weeks, and no personal photos or details beyond what a lesson needs should be shared.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Some tutors charge less for online lessons because there is no journey; many experienced specialists charge the same either way. The class, course, subject and number of lessons a week matter more than the format, and each tutor's fee is visible before the demo. See our post on tuition fees in Durgapur and the pricing guide.
To begin, share the class, board and subjects, whether you want online lessons only or a mix with visits, your locality if visits are included, and your free hours. Then book a free demo class, look through online tutor profiles, or go to the Durgapur home tutors page and its five zones. Subject pages for the city cover maths, physics, biology and English; tutors looking for work can open Durgapur tuition jobs.

Online makes more sense when the specialist you need lives in another city. It also helps when your home is at the city's edge with few tutors nearby, or when only a short evening is free. It suits quick, frequent drills such as the one-mark questions of the Higher Secondary September semesters.
Stay with a home tutor for young children learning to read and write, for a child easily distracted on screens, and in the first weeks after a change of board. Subjects marked on written steps also need a tutor who can watch the working, which is easier at the table.
Yes, families in Arra and Bamunara can widen the choice a great deal by going online. Both are census towns just beyond the corporation area, so fewer tutors live inside them. One workable plan is a visiting tutor from the Muchipara or Shankarpur side plus an online specialist for one subject.
Yes, the Council's multiple-choice semesters suit short online drills: a timed set of one-mark questions, checked at once, a few evenings a week. Because no calculator is allowed in any semester paper, an online maths or accountancy tutor should also watch the arithmetic done by hand on camera.
A student needs a laptop or tablet, a second camera such as a spare phone over the notebook, a shared whiteboard or document, and a headset with a microphone. Add good light in a shared room and a hotspot or charged device for internet or power cuts. Test it all in the demo.
Yes, many tutors teach both ways, and keeping one person usually helps more than the format. Common patterns are weekend visits with weekday online checks, home lessons in term with online revision before papers, or a morning visit for a day-shift student and an evening call.
Keep the device in a shared room, send class links and homework to a parent, and make sure both cameras stay on. Messages should stay on the agreed platform rather than personal chat apps. For the first few weeks, an adult should stay within earshot of a younger child.
